“Lovely hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 September 2013

We stayed 3 nights in hotel de Petris in september 2013. The hotel is very nice with friendly staff and with an excellent location. Having breakfast on a sunny roof terrace in Rome is the best!!
The room was small, as usual in Italy, but with a good bathroom and good beds.
We recommend this hotel to anyone!!

Our criteria for this hotel was its fantastic location. - easy walking distance to everything we wanted to see. Good price, clean and tidy. The hotel is an easy walk to the train station and to the Hop On Hop Off buses, to take you to the places you can't walk to.
The hotel staff were very pleasant and accomodating, we arrived well before check in and they allowed us to change clothing from a long flight and store our bags until the room was ready. The room was small, but very comfortable, it took us a while to work out the hot water, but all was good in the end. The breakfast was great with a wide variety of food styles to suit all nationalities. The hotel is off the main street, down an alley, but this gives it a quiet atmosphere away from the busy street.
We enjoyed our stay here and would definately stay again

The location of this hotel is excellent - walking distance to the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps etc and there are lots of restaurants nearby. The hotel is on a fairly quiet side street - very important in Rome if you do not want to listen to cars and scooters going by outside the window. Our room was small but certainly adequate. Request a room that is not on the street side and several floors up. The lovely breakfast room is located on the 5th floor and has beautiful views of the city rooftops.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the upper floors and not on the street side.

Upon checking in which went smoothly, we were shown to our room which was quite basic but lovely with patio doors opening out to a small balcony which let in the warm autumn breeze. We stayed for a weekend break overnight. There was a complimentary bottle of red wine and some fruit in the room. The bathroom was small but adequate with a good shower over the bath tub.
The bed was comfy and fresh with a flatscreen tv on the wall opposite.
In an ideal location, the hotel was really good for a pleasant walk through quaint cobbled streets and beautiful buildings, opening out occasionally into small squares en-route to the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the Pantheon which are all beautifully amazing (so much so we went back again at night). Rome is a beautifully romantic city with such alot of history too.
Breakfast was quite basic fare though, but enough was available to fuel up for the forthcoming day. Overall a decent hotel for our stay which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Overall a great deal on a really good hotel. I would definitely stay there again. The location is incredible. Everything great in Rome is walkable from there, and the subway is just up the street if your feet get tired. The staff were terrific. They were friendly and helpful and gave great recommendations. The rooms were outdated and a bit small (especially the shower), but we weren't spending much time in the room except for sleeping. They were kept extremely clean and were serviceable, so for a 3-star hotel, it was fine. The rooftop terrace was a beautiful spot for evening drinks, so definitely make sure to go up there and watch the sunset. They even give you a free drink on your first night! Another tip: have a meal at the restaurant across the street at least once. The food is incredible and the staff at the hotel can make a reservation for you because that place is always packed! In summary, it's not a luxury hotel, so don't go in expecting to be wowed by amenities and you won't be disappointed. The location and the staff were amazing and definitely made this hotel a great find!

Room Tip: We were on the 2nd floor and our room was old and crusty. We heard that the 3rd floor has been updat...

Seriously, tall man with shaved head and British accent named Peter is some kind of all knowing hotel alien. He was working the desk most days always helpful and gave good recommendations. Booked us reservations twice and cab to airport. Then we went for a drink on the rooftop terrace and he was bartending, even made a rice salad for the buffet! Seriously, that rooftop is beatiful. Go at sunset for an Aperol spritz. Otherwise the hotel is undergoing construction, so noise may be a concern. Our room on the 2nd floor was in bad need of refreshing, the shower could double as a veal stall. There is a door, but it didn't stop a drop of water. The location is perfect, the price was not unreasonable for central Rome and right by Barberini Metro station. Get them to make you a reservation at Hostaria Romana across the street for a meal. I'm fairly sure I saw Peter working over there too.

My partner and I were bitterly disappointed with a recent 5 night stay at this hotel...

Things started so positively, we were collected sharply from the airport by their recommended transfer service and were impressed to find a stylish Mercedes awaiting us. We arrived at the hotel 2 hours early to check in and so went to familiarise ourselves with the local sights. We had been on a very early morning flight and were looking forward to heading back to the room at 2pm for a quick nap and to freshen up. Unbeknown to us, there was a team of builders working on the lobby and rooms surrounding us who proceeded to drill, hammer and shout very loudly. At one point a builder just waltzed straight into our room and got quite a fright when he saw us lying on the bed. Within a few minutes the phone rang and we were asked to vacate the room for a while so the builder could check our water, which we did.

For the next couple of days we had no hot water and for the remainder of our stay (5 long nights) we endured a building site with dust everywhere, loud drilling, banging, general shouting of workmen between rooms which went from 8am to 6pm. In addition to the internal work, scaffolding was installed (loudly) directly outside our balcony which not only made us feel unsafe, but meant additional builders could now peer straight into our room. We could have literally stepped out onto it! We also had several issues of staff just walking straight into the room unannounced, thankfully, no embarrassment was caused!

The photos shown on booking sites for this hotel do not remotely look like what we encountered, I'm so curious to others reviews as our experience was nothing short of dreadful. In general, our room was a reasonable size but very grubby and tired. The shower was a joke, a hand held device running from the taps at the opposite end of the bath which housed the shower screen! Needless to say, a few minutes under the shower soaked the bathroom. Staff varied, some helpful, others close to rude. I tried to have a reasonable discussion about the building noise and was told jokingly, at least it doesn't start at 7am! This was the same staff member who also directed us to a tourist site which turned out to be completely wrong.

Im not typically somebody who complains. When I travel, I view the hotel as a place to simply house my belongings and rest at night. I'm not expecting the ritz but the poor service received at this hotel infuriated me. In conclusion I would say that the location was wonderful, close to major tourist attractions, Berberini subway station and lovely restaurants, the hotel was just diabolical.
