“Good budget hotel”
Reviewed 29 September 2013

I stayed in this hotel with a friend for 4 nights last week. The twin room we were given was in the adjacent building, although it was small this wasn't too much of a problem as we spent so little time in it. The room was very clean and the only quibble we had was that the hairdryer kept cutting out after a minute making it difficult to style hair.
It very convenient to get around the city from this location as there is a Metro station just around the corner and Termini Station is about 10 minutes walk away.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Des Artistes for 4 nights in mid August 2013. The hotel is conveniently located about 10-15 minutes walk from Termini station. Staff were most helpful (especially Raoul). The rooms were very clean and comfortable, with excellent air conditioning and a good size room safe. There is also an elevator! Bed was quite hard but surprisingly comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with cereal, bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages, cold meats, pastries (yum), fresh fruit, toast, juices and tea/coffee, everything you need to set you up for a day of sightseeing. Rooms were exactly as described. Excellent Cafe just across the road serving pizzas and beer for 6Euros or Cappuccino and croissant for 1.5Euro. Would most definitely stay here again!!

Room Tip: Rooms on 1st floor provide easy access to the breakfast room.

We stayed at the Hotel des Artistes for two days last weekend and were delighted by the value for money it offered and the brilliant welcome from the staff. It's an ideal base for anyone looking to enjoy a short break to this beautiful city. As others have said, it's a very short walk from the Termini station (32 minute link via Leonardo da Vinci express train to Fiumicino).
The helpful staff gave us some great restaurant recommendations (Mamma Angela in the next street is great) to help us eat like locals.

The room was immaculate: our only comment is that the mattress was very hard, which would suit some people better than others. Breakfast is a comprehensive continental, which sets you up for a great day ahead. Would definitely recommend.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Des Artistes for 4 nights in September 2013 (the third leg of a four city tour of Italy), and it was exactly what we needed. The hotel is just East of Central, but very close to Termini Station, metro and bus routes, so you will have no problem getting to all the attractions. It is also very well maintained, split over two buildings on the same street. The rooms are spacious, clean, very comfortable and quiet. After ten straight days of sightseeing, a comfy bed in a quiet room is a joy to behold!

You don't need to venture too far in the evening, as there are plenty of ristorantes and trattorias in very close proximity to the hotel. However, if you don't feel like dining out, you can grab a pizza to takeaway at any of the local pizzerias and take it up to the hotel's roof terrace, with a few beers from the cooler at reception.

The breakfast is served on the first floor above the reception. It is a good selection of continental breakfast, with some bacon egg and wurst thrown in for good measure. Tea, coffee and juice are also provided.

To top it all off, the staff we dealt with were all friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for an affordable short break in Rome. It ticks all the boxes!

Hotel Des Artistes was a great hotel and would stay here again! We traveled from Fiumicino airport to the Termini station (As all roads lead to Rome, now all modes of transportation such as European trains, Rome buses, and the Rome metro lead to the Termini station...literally). Recommend using Terravision (or another type of bus). It was 8 Euro per person, for the trip to Termini and return trip back. From Termini station (bus stop is on NE side), hotel is a NE walk about 5 minutes away (walk NE down Via Vicenza until you get to Via Villafranca and look left...can't miss it. Once arrived, it was an easy check in. Do have 2 Euro per person per night ready (and in cash Euro...no credit cards accepted). They will not accept credit card for the tax and like to have it when you check in, although I did not have cash for us at the time and they were ok with it. This just cost me to get cheated again by the currency exchange people though ($130 dollars for 65 Euro at Termini station...total rip off as market exchange rate was about 0.75 Euro to 1 dollar, so should have gotten about 95 Euro for the $130 given if at market exchange). The room was the most spacious we had in our London, Paris, Rome trip overall, and the beds were like a tempurpedic foam mattress...not a usual bouncing mattress. If you walk outside there are a few good and economical cafes/trattorias within the block (although you shouldn't go hungry anywhere as there are street side eateries everywhere and gelato on every corner like there is Starbucks in the USA). Since the hotel is east of the Termini station and most of the sites are to the west of the station, the location is a bit further than we would have liked, but Rome is not as big of a city as London or Paris comparatively. Still, spare yourself the foot, knee, and hip aches and get some sort of bus transportation at Termini...which the hotel IS close to. Metro is limited to only two lines (not like London or Paris), so buses are more practical. Breakfast at the hotel was good as they had some hot food (scrambled eggs and small hot dogs) in addition to the continental breakfast of cereals, breads, and fruits. There was also an automatic juice and coffee machine...and that coffee machine was heavily used. Watched if for 15 minutes while enjoying breakfast and it was non-stop busy with people getting coffee, one after the next. Overall, good hotel and would go back again!

Very beautiful, clean, safe, and cozy! Also, it's very close to the train station and subway station. We just wheeled our suitcases straight there instead of taking a taxi.

It was also a short walk from a vegan restaurant.
