“Decent hotel near Roma Termini”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

Stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed my stay. Although we were put in the hotel annex, which is just the next block, we found it similar in quality and comfort as the main building. The hotel is about 10 mins walk from the Roma termini train station. There are many hotels around the termini station but this is one of the decent ones. Small but Comfortable rooms. Very clean bathroom. Sadly no english channel on their satellite tv bouquet. Fantastic breakfast! Nice staff, very warm and welcoming. Will definitely recommend and return!

Totally loved staying at the Hotel des Artistes in Rome - thanks to the dedicated staff at the hotel that have a passion for what they do - you'd think they are all shareholders in the hotel :-) Front desk staff professional and helpful, rooms, sparkling clean, bathrooms - spotless. Excellent beds and fresh linen.
Restaurant at the junction of Via Vicenza and Via Palestro (Its on the left as you walk to the termini on Via Vicenza from the hotel) was the best culinary experience i had in Italy! Ask the chubby waiter for his recommendations - trust me, you will love their food!

My husband wanted to stay here because he got a good feel from the Trip Advisor review. Sometimes I just go along with him. But I have to admit I burst into tears when I saw our room. It was small, and I could see there was nowhere to put our suitcases but on the floor where we would trip on them trying to move around. Really I was just very tired from being in airports and cramped planes for the previous 14 hours. Hotel des Artistes rooms are an average size for a budget hotel in the middle of a European city. But, if you're like me and want to put your suitcase on a luggage rack and maybe lounge in a comfy armchair while you get your bearings, this may not be the place for you.

It's also not an ideal situation for anyone considering more than a short stay because there's not that many interesting sites around the hotel and you have to take a metro or walk a fair bit to get to the touristy areas. But it's great for anyone who is only in Rome for a couple of days before moving on to other parts of Italy. It's a five-minute walk from the train station so you can avoid the sketchiness of the Termini neighborhood unless you have a train to catch.

The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. We were in the annex, and had to go to the main building for breakfast and to use their rooftop deck, but this was a minor inconvenience. Their breakfast offerings were very extensive, and really add to the value of the hotel. The rooftop deck is a nice feature as well.

I had a bit of a problem with the wireless. It was and extra charge, and the signal was weak. And for some reason they wanted me to use a different password for each day, but when I told them I wasn't going to be inconvenienced by that, they backed down.

All in all, this is a fine hotel for budget travelers for for those who want a place to sleep close to Termini for a couple of nights. People who absolutely have to have comfort and luxury should look elsewhere and pay more.

We booked through a travel company for a 4-city vacation over two weeks. After the first hotel we weren't sure what the neighborhood would be like. Des Artistes is located close to Termini which leads to all Metro stops. Numerous places to eat are also within walking distance. Nothing fancy, but also not horrible, either. A cafe/bar is immediately across the street for cheap breakfast and expensive beers. The staff were pleasant and helpful when we had questions. We didn't eat at the hotel.

Pros: Room and bathroom were spacious. Old style look with desk and everything. A closet. Safe.

Cons: The bed was hard as a rock. They also have the old school coverlets (vs. down comforters seen in most hotels, even the 3-star ones). Pillows were also very thin. The towels and sheets had a vinegary smell to them. I assume they use it to wash the linens. I noticed it right off, the partner did not. Our shower didn't drain very well. Nothing to complain about while we were there though.

If visitors are looking for a place in a decent neighborhood with food options nearby and basic accommodations, this place fits the bill.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked an inner courtyard shared with the adjacent buildings. Definitely not eye-appeal...

A good location for visiting Rome with two metro stops within walking distance. Everything was fine except for a bit of a problem with noise from other guests using their bathroom and some guests being inconsiderate in the night, but that's common to most hotels I've stayed in . The restaurant recommendations were good. The visitor tax of two euro's per person per night to be paid in cash on arrival was a bit of a shocker and made the room less good value, but that would have to be paid at every hotel. The hotel charges for internet access for use of personal computers but does offer free internet via the two PCS in the common room which were always available when I was staying at the hotel.

The coffee and dispensing machines were a good idea but the coffee machine needed to be refilled so what was dispensed was not that great

Room Tip: Our room was at the back of the hotel, the view was not particularly attractive but it was quieter...

Loved our stay in this hotel, immaculate and great breakfast. Situated very handy for the Metro and also opposite a great little bar, staff very professional and helpful, would defiantly stay here again :)

Room Tip: Top floors are better as too near the kitchen is a bit noisy :)

We stayed for 4 nights. Close to the metro stations, bus stops. Breakfast was good. Rooms are kept clean everyday and the staff were helpful whether it was to arrange an early breakfast or to point out places on the map. There is a small restaurant opposite the hotel which was good too.
Cons of the place : Elevator is too cramped to bring in big luggage and stand at the same time. Wifi is not free.
