“Excellent hotel!”
Reviewed 31 March 2014

We stayed at this hotel last weekend and it did not disappoint. Everything was of a high 4 star quality and I would even say that I have stayed in 5 star hotels of far lesser speck. On arrival we were upgraded to a suite which was lovely, the staff were very friendly and the restaurant and bar area were well run and immaculately clean. The hotel is very modern and right next to the Termini, Roma Sightseeing bus stop and just around the corner from the Ciampano airport shuttle bus.
Everything was within walking distance although we used the tour bus in mornings and only walked back at night. We had no problems with the area after dark as mentioned in other reviews- the fact is that any city can get a little dicey at night but I have to say we felt totally secure walking past daylight.
Overall if in doubt about booking a hotel in Rome go with this one, you will not be disappointed! We will return on our next visit and will not hesitate to recommend it to other!

Ok, so I'll begin this by saying that Rome is different. They are an eternal city, for sure, full of amazing historical sites and beautiful buildings, however it is not known for particularly high standards of service or cleanliness. So, take the rest of the review with that in mind.

The hotel is modern and rooms design is bright and appealing. Changing mood light system is fun. Bathroom with tub and shower is comfortable and well designed. Bed is firm and AC/heat works very well. One caveat is that glass door and wall in the bathroom mean that if lights are on in the shower, the room is bright too - so no late sleepers wanted :)

Location just steps away from Termini is hard to beat in terms of accessibility - and you can still walk all over the town, as Rome is not that big.

Front desk staff was courteous and efficient.

Hotel cleanliness, though, did leave something to be desired. There were numerous marks and smudges on the bright white room walls, and a bit of dust in the corners.

The breakfast area was really the low point though. While breakfast selection was pretty good, in particular the pastries - this was by far the dirtiest dining area in a hotel I've seen in quite some time. Breakfast area was never too busy, and well staffed - yet multiple servers appeared to struggle to keep up. We routinely came to find lots of empty but uncleaned tables.
Food utensils, plates and cups were poorly washed, buffet surface messy. I found a long hair and a few random items in a bread basket. Espresso machine was disgracefully dirty. It was "out of service" one day, and I thought that for sure they would clean it then - but it remained just as dirty the next day. After peeking once, I made a point not to look in the kitchen anymore - otherwise I would definitely not be able to eat there again.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant, but a hotel purportedly of this level could put a little more effort in keeping things tidy - though I have to admit that compared to the rest of establishments in Rome, it was not out of ordinary.

If I am ever back in Rome - I'd still stay here, as it's probably one of the better choices.

Very good location right across the street from Termini Station making it easy to get from the airport to the hotel as well as from hotel to Metro/city bus or train connections to other cities. Room was nice, we were on the first floor with no problems from excessive noise, even with tour buses loading outside our windows. The only problem I had was the inablity to connect our I-Pad to their wireless system. Numberous attempts yielded nothing. But you're in Rome the internet was not a requirement just a bonus. The breakfast was doable and early enough that we could start our day with less crowds (always a plus). I would easily stay here again. Yes the Termini Station is not the nicest part of Rome, but it is like every other major station in the world, beggers, homeless, it is what it is. Doesn't not take away from the Hotel.

My wife and I stayed at the BW Royal Santina for three nights at the end of July 2013. We selected it due to its proximity to Termini Station. Unfortunately its proximity to Termini was both a plus and a minus. The plus is obvious. The minus is that the neighbourhood is pretty sketchy. We did not venture out at night. The folks hanging out on the street look suspicious at best even in the day time. We were able to walk to most of our destinations. The hotel itself is every clean and very trendy. We didn't bother adjusting our light colours. we had an interior view so there was nothing much to see but the place was very quiet so that was good. The restaurant has a small lobby bar that was welcome at night. The breakfast buffet was very well stocked and the staff were generally pleasant. It was a good location to meet our guide with Through Eternity tours as well.

We have stayed at this hotel twice during trips to Rome. The first time my husband and I traveled as a couple during the peak summer season, and the second we traveled with my mother and our two small dogs during the low winter season. We have stayed in both the business traveler room and the junior suite, my mother stayed in a double single use room.

Rooms:
- very clean
- mood lighting (fun!)
- look just like pictures on hotel website
- moderately quiet
- one of the best rates/value in the city
- junior suite is perfect for traveling with pets, outdoor balcony was very convenient

Service:
- the front desk is helpful, but slow
- they will help take your luggage up to your room
- the first time we stayed they parked our car for us in the garage next door, but the second time we had to park it
- you can book tours through the hotel, although we do not recommend it (the first time we booked a Vatican tour through the hotel and the tour guide was late and disorganized, the second time we did a private tour and had a much better experience)

Transportation:
- we traveled to Rome by car both trips and the left it in the garage for the duration of our stay
- the hotel is across the street from the train station, bus stops, and taxi cabs

Surrounding area:
- many, many shops a five-ten minute walk from the hotel
- restaurants ranging from take away pizza and kebabs, to sit down cafes and restaurants (one of the cafes down the street has the best cannoli we've had in Italy!)
- some of the major sites are within walking distance (if you don't mind walking for 30-45 minutes), we walked to the Spanish Steps, Villa Borghese, and the Colosseum
- walking is an excellent way to see the city and the "real" Rome

Food:
- hotel breakfast is adequate, hot and cold options
- hotel bar serves snacks and drinks
- we dined at restaurants nearby and further into Rome for dinner

Negatives:
- no gym or pool

Room Tip: Junior suite perfect for traveling with pets

Hotel was incredibly clean and modern. It was quite spacious and had amenities (such as a pillow menu!) which went above and beyond! The hotel was directly across from the train station, which unfortunately meant that there was not a lot going on around us and restaurants were quite limited. However, not a long taxi ride to the major sights and all in a walking distance (30mins to Colosseum). Major downfall of this hotel was the staff. In every hotel we stayed in, we were greeted when we walked through the door, every single time. However, even when we greeted the staff first, IN ITALIAN, they would often look at us, and look away!!! How incredibly rude. The only helpful staff member was the lady that answered the room service phone. Further, although breakfast was quite nice and had a great selection, the staff literally stood around talking to each other and did not refill the milk or eggs the entire time we were there! They didn't even set the tables properly and we had no napkins. The room service food was also quite a let down but they did go out of their way to make us a fruit salad (not on the menu) which was nice. Nice hotel overall, and would consider staying again if staff improved their attitudes.

The light mood in the room was fun to play around, and comfortable bed. The breakfast selection was good.
The Hop On Hop Off main stop is right in the front of the hotel which made us so convenience to explore the city.
There were many restaurant near by and easy to go around.
