“Great return visit: Location, Location, Location”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

We stayed here 10 years ago and found Hotel Abruzzi to be great value for the location. It is directly across from the Pantheon which means that daily there are groups of visitors standing in the way of the door, but once inside it's a private quiet haven. This year we actually stayed in their annex with what we called "The secret door"...well actually there were three of them with three different keys. We felt safe all the time! It was a blast keeping the windows open and hearing the street below with the clanging of coffee/expresso/cappucino cups from the world famous coffee shoppe and to hear the talking people, the click of horses hooves from the carriages going buy.And yet we could shut the windows, turn on the air and have complete silence.
The shower and bathroom was great. The room we stayed in was small but comfortable. The front desk people spoke english so that was most helpful. Best of all was the location is central to everything you want to do!

Room Tip: You can ask for a Pantheon view or stay in the annex for a more inexpensive room that is still great...

We arrived with our rental car and found ourselves in the middle of a beautiful Piazza with Pantheon on one side and the hotel just across from it! It was quite hellish to get to the hotel by car (which in all fairness, we have been warned about by the staff in our earlier conversation)...So, to begin with, if you are planning to bring your car, be prepared to deal with narrow streets, poor signs and loads of pedestrians on the street...in fact, in some of the streets (which i would call ally, cobbled stoned and narrow) the cafes had to move their tables for us to pass! Our plan was to bring the car to the center, after 7 pm and to drop it off in the nearby parking lot for three days while being in Rome...all worked our well except that we weren't prepared for those narrow streets...
We had a suit in second floor, looking into the Piazza and the Pantheon. Room was modern and new...a bit noisy at night, which is expected if you are that close to the hustle and bustle...the hotel has no bars and you need to be able to walk up some narrow stairs. I realized that some people were directed to the adjacent building, so make sure you ask for a room in the main building since the adjacent building looked really old and scary!
The breakfast is served in a cafe across the hotel, which we kind of liked and had no problem in finding a table and people watching. The breakfast items were the usual items, nothing really good or bad..the coffee was always lukewarm and the items were just the standards...
The Wifi was quite spotty...and i found that to be the case in almost every hotel we stayed in Italy!
The room was clean, modern, and comfortable...the shower was really small, but then again, it seems to be a standard in most Italian hotels. I got the room for 304E per night which might be just about average for a hotel that is so near everything...but, if i ever go back to Rome with kids, i will rent an apartment (I noticed quite a few in and around the Piazza).

Room Tip: Make sure you get the room on the main building and perhaps higher floors.

To start with the positives, or should I say positive....location, location, location. That was about it.

Now the remainder of the experience was terrible. When we first arrived, we were told our room was back outside and around the corner in at an unmarked door. The bellman walked us over there and we were greeted with trash in the entryway which smelled horrible. There were 3 keys just to get into our room. Upon entry, the room was very small and the bed was a foam mattress which was very uncomfortable. We were just above a buys restaurant making it difficult to sleep due to the noise. The room was dirty, specifically the floor. As I picked up my bag which was on the floor, I had a layer of dust covering the bottom. Furthermore, because the room was so far from the hotel check in area, our wifi did not pick up the signal.

We decided to ask if we could switch rooms for the next two nights They obliged and put us in a room which was again outside of the check in area, but the door was closer to the main entrance of the hotel. This hotel room again had 3 keys to get in, but it was quiet without the smell of trash in the entryway.....huge step up. The bed was still uncomfortable, however, and the room was still very small. Overall, the experience was not pleasant and we will be sure to never stay here again.

We stayed at Hotel Abruzzi for 4 nights last week. The view of the Pantheon and square below are breathtaking! I would just sit at the window and watch the crowd. The location is excellent because there are several places to eat within walking distance and nearby pharmacies and supermarkets for anything you need. We had no trouble walking to all of the main sites of Rome. The room was certainly adequate and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We would stay there again and highly recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Request a piazza view!

Stayed in Albergo Abruzzi for 3 nights, it is opposite of the Pantheon so as you can guess it is very central and most rooms will have a stunning view over the Piazza and the Pantheon. We stayed on the suite which seems to just have been renovated, so it was all very modern and nice. The rest of the hotel could use some work - and without a bar or even breakfast room (a very average breakfast is served on one of the piazza's cafe) you'll only be going back to sleep or rest. The Piazza is very busy until late, but we were mostly bothered with noise from the hotel itself since the walls are thin and commotion starts early, specially since they were doing works when we stayed over. Cleanlinesses was mostly ok, but could be improved. Overall, a positive stay with good value for money, but could have been better.

Booked this hotel for the location, we could walk to all sites. Got upgraded to a suite, lovely thank you. Our view of the Pantheon was breath taking. People on desk were helpful and polite. Break fast was at another hotel close by, not brilliant but I suppose good enough.

Room Tip: It's noisy on the front but the view is worth it

So we stayed at Abruzzi twice in April. We choice Abruzzi due to the location, our daughter was living across the street. We stayed one night while waiting for our other daughter to meet us, in a room looking out at the Piazza. We were worried that it would be loud because we could hear all the music below and we desperately needed sleep after traveling but it didn't bother us. The 2nd time we stayed on the top floor in a 2 bedroom suite. Both times the rooms looked newly decorated and were super clean and fresh. The bathrooms were typically small but really nice with good water pressure so we were happy! The staff went out of the way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We were there around Easter and the canonization, so they were good helping us get out of town when the streets were closed down. Breakfast was out on the piazza, typical European stuff-fine for a bite before site seeing but not brunch worthy. We loved the location because you could walk just about everywhere, sights and shopping. We would stay again.
