“Wonderful Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2013

Hotel Sant Anna has always been our hotel of choice when visiting Rome (we have stayed here at least four times). The staff is most helpful and friendly, and the location can't be beat. Breakfast is a treat as well. The location is exceptional - you are close to St. Peter's, Castelo San Angelo, Piazza Navona across the Tiber, and many other sights. Ask the staff for restaurant recommendations: we were not disappointed when trying their suggestions. I would say to venture off the hotel's street for meals, as the restaurants are touristy. There are many others nearby that are good. Also, be sure to get directions to Giolitti, a great gelato shop near Piazza Navona.

When we are fortunate enough to return to Rome, we will chose the Sant Anna.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back of the hotel are quieter. But rooms in the front let you watch the street scene...

This is a charming hotel 2 blocks from the Vatican on a nice street with restaurants, shops and local activity. It is not a noisy street. The hotel offers a nice breakfast and staff are friendly and very helpful. Our quiet room next to the small elevator had a little balcony overlooking courtyard with standard amenities but no English speaking channels on tv. Nearest Metro is about 15 min walk. We enjoyed our 4 night stay and recommend this family operated hotel.

The Hotel Sant Anna is truly extraordinary. Located less than a minute walk from the Vatican wall and 5 minutes to St. Peter's, the location alone would demand any traveler's attention. But, there are many more outstanding reasons to stay at the Sant Anna.

The staff is exceptionally professional, experienced, welcoming and helpful. In particular, Visgardo and Elizabetta were exceptional. This family owned hotel is a small, intimate and meticulously cared for treasure in the shadow of the Vatican. When you step out of the beautifully decorated lobby and entrance - look to your right and up Borgo Pio - you'll see the Swiss Guard at their posts. Look to your left and enjoy the lively street atmosphere of small shops, cafes and restaurants.

The location is only one of the many reasons why government officials from other countries, Cardinals, church officials, their families and friends, as well as seasoned visitors to Rome return to the Sant Anna every time they're in town. The artwork adorning the public spaces is museum quality. The marble foyer and stairs make you feel as though you're a guest at the residence of your country's ambassador. The garden area - tucked in the back of the hotel - is a very quiet and private retreat, perfectly furnished with comfortable chairs and a small fountain. A perfect place for a third cup of coffee or tea in the morning or a late night glass of wine. The full breakfast - which is included in the daily rate - was consistently delicious with a choice of eggs, hot and cold meats, cheeses, fresh breads (including amazing crusty rolls), cereals, fresh fruits, juices, coffee and tea. If you'd prefer to have breakfast in your room, they will gladly provide you with a stunning silver plated set to carry your selections.

From mid-morning to late evening the street (Borgo Pio) is filled with people coming and going from the Vatican, as well as visitors to the shops and restaurants. While it's a busy street, it's not noisy. Vehicles are not allowed unless picking up or dropping off so all you really hear (if you open the window in your room) is the wonderful sound of people talking and enjoying themselves along with occasional singing accompanied by music from an accordion and guitar.

Our room was located directly above the center of the hotel overlooking the flags and provided a great view of the lively street below. It was simply beautiful - large and nicely arranged and furnished with a very comfortable king bed, pillows and covers. A small window seat and an additional built-in, banquette-style cushioned seat complemented two chairs. Plenty of closet space and drawers, as well as a good-size desk that included a small refrigerator. The ceilings and walls appeared freshly and carefully painted - one with a stunning mural of ancient roman soldiers. The attention to detail was remarkable. We took at least 20 photos of the bathroom in the hope of replicating some of the beauty in our master bathroom at home. The fixtures were elegant and modern and the shower was nothing short of fantastic - marble throughout from floor to ceiling.

Highly recommended and surprisingly affordable. One tip: make your reservations as far in advance as possible. Elisabetta was a joy and assisted us with many related details.

Room Tip: Any rooms in the front provide a great view.

If this is what you want, then just a mere few steps away brings you to the centre of St. P
eter's square.
We were there for 3 days only, so being central was of the utmost importance.
On the Wednesday morning we were lucky enough to be just a few feet away from the new Pope at his general audience.
The hotel was extremely well run, very pleasant staff, with a more than adequate breakfast room.
It was also very clean.
I highly recommend it and would certainly go again.

Room Tip: Our room was at the and exceptionally quiet.

This is a wonderful hotel within easy walking distance to Saint Peter's. Ask for a room facing the street on the 4th floor and you'll be treated to a view of St Peter's dome. Clean rooms and very helpful staff. Free shuttle pickup from Rome Fumincio airport. Many excellent restaurants also within a short walk from Hotel S. Anna. Great place to stay if you plan on attending the Pope's audience on a Wednesday morning. The lines form early and you can beat the crowd from here.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2013 via mobile

When I booked this hotel several months ago, I didn't realize that it was a mere two blocks from the Vatican. Two blocks! It didn't get any closer than that, and especially after Pope Benedict announced his resignation, we realized that we had a front row seat to history.

My wife and youngest child, 10 month old boy, came to Rome for a long weekend in late February. The staff at the hotel made us welcome and comfortable from the first minute we set foot inside. We blearily stumbled about the cobblestone streets and found our way to the hotel, and as soon as we entered we were greeted by name - apparently we fit the description from my reservation. Even though it was only 11 AM, our room was ready for us, and we gratefully flopped in for a nap.

At every step of the way the staff was attentive to our needs. They recognized the challenges we had of traveling with a 10 month old baby. They made up our room whenever we were ready for it. Some days it was 9 AM, other days closer to 11 AM. Breakfast was included with the price and had plenty of offerings, including scrambled eggs - a rarity in Rome. The staff always recommended good restaurants. In fact, all of their recommendations filled our needs perfectly. The rooms were huge with modern, ensuite bathrooms. All the beds and shelves were a perfect height for our boy to practice standing, and the hardwood floors gave the room a clean feeling.

Our flight didn't leave until very late on checkout day, and they held our bags for 8 hours at no charge. Even though we didn't have a room, they still happily welcomed us into their lobby and called a cab for us to take us to the airport.

There were only two minor issues, and they were very minor. First, we could find only one power outlet outside the bathroom, and in order to access it we had to unplug a lamp. This only became an issue when we needed to plug in my iPad for a charge up. The second issue was the cost for transportation. To have a private car meet us at the airport would have been 60 euro one way if we had arranged through the hotel. There are many cheaper, although less convenient, options to get to the hotel. When I asked the front desk if they could call us a cab to get us to the Termini to catch a train to the airport, that's when we learned that a regular cab ride only costs 48 euro for essentially the same service as a private car. Keep this in mind when making your arrangements.

I would absolutely go back and stay there for even longer. Thanks for making it a memorable vacation in Rome!

The hotel was a lovely place for us to stay the four days we were in Rome. The rooms were clean and very modern. Breakfast was included and was yummy. The hotel was very close to the Vatican - where we did a lot of site seeing so walking was easy. Lots of cute small family restaurants near the hotel. Would highly recommend it for a Roman Holiday.

Room Tip: Elevator is available but tiny!! First floor rooms were a bit noisy compared to the upper floors.
