We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Gerber. We were there over Easter, and it is a perfect location for visiting the Vatican. It is also just a quick block and some from the subway - a wonderful plus. We walked to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. It's an easy subway ride to the Ancient Rome area and to Bourghese Gallery. The neighborhood is quiet and a lot less touristy, which we enjoyed. There are very good restaurants and gelaterias in the area, but not right next door. Our room was a triple, which made it a perfect size for 2. We had an enclosed balcony which was perfect to have a glass of wine after a long day of touring. The water pressure was amazing. I had to turn it down, it was so strong. The tubs don't have shower curtains, just a little half door that lets water escape all over the bathroom. The bathrooms were very clean, and they seem to have no problem cleaning up the water. The breakfast was fine. No eggs, but everything else. What brings my review down from 5 circles to 4 is that the WIFI went out the first night we were there and the staff didn't really seem to care. They were spending more time talking to their friends outside who seemed to always be there. Granted it was over Easter and it is a holiday, but the response was, "Sorry" with a shoulder shrug. Also, the staff was not as friendly as other places we stayed in Italy. This is definitely the most "American" place we stayed. We would, however, go back.

Room Tip: We had a triple on the second floor front (can't remember the room number). It was a nice room a...

Hotel Gerber was our "home" for five days on our first trip to Rome. The staff was great in helping us find our way around the city. The room and hotel facilities were excellent. Travelers who appreciate a cozy, home-like hotel (as opposed to a shiny, hi-tech accommodation) will surely like Hotel Gerber.

The hotel is a few walkable blocks to Vatican City and a half-block walk to the Metro (Lepanto stop). A short walk further up Via degli Scipioni from the hotel is a great neighborhood dinner spot - La Pratolina.

Highly recommended!

This was a welcome, quiet hotel, not far from the Vatican. The staff allowed us to check in early, which is always a good sign of accommodation. Our room was a good size, the bed was large and comfortable.
Friendly staff, good value, location and neighborhood. We would certainly return.

The Gerber is a very well run family owned hotel. Yes the rooms and bathrooms are quite small - but when in Rome who wants to be in a room? Bathroom was new and very clean, and the bed was large and comfortable. Best of all, the rooms were very quiet. Breakfast was totally adequate - not exciting - but sufficient fuel for the morning before stopping at one of Rome's wonderful restaurants. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We walked from the hotel to the Olympic Stadium for the rugby, and we also walked to the Borghese Gardens, and one day all the way back from the Forum via all the favourite landmarks! Lepanto Metro station is all of 2 minutes walk away. All in all, thoroughly recommended,

We had a comfortable stay at the Gerber Hotel. The room we were in on the first floor was a little small but functional. The staff was super friendly with the exception of the person serving us coffee. He appeared like he seemed bothered doing his job. Breakfast was adequate. Nice terrace in the back. There is also a sun deck but I didn't get a chance to see it. We were walking distance to most historical sites if you are in decent shape. Lots of cafe's, gelateria's and restaurants in close vicinity.

The location of Hotel Gerber makes it convenient for touring anywhere in Rome, especially the Vatican or the Borghese Gallery. And unless your room is on the ground floor by the restaurant, it is relatively quiet. What really stood out to me was the exceptional breakfast service. It was gracious and the food was excellent and abundant -- especially important for getting a good start on the day's touring!

The image shown on booking.com looks quite basic so I came with low expectation. Turned out this is not true. My room - the cheapest type - is spacious and very well designed with a vintage style, even has a small balcony. The location couldn't be better: 2 minutes to metro/bus stations and 10 - 30 minutes walking to most major sites. The neighborhood is clean and safe, I had no trouble walking alone at 11 pm even in an empty street. The staffs are very friendly and of good discipline. They never touched or moved my personal stuffs (actually I left a Macbook and some money inside my suitcase without locks and everything was safe).

Note that breakfast is quite basic, only cold bread/milk/fruit/cereal. For a single room with shared bathroom the price is similar to a good BB in the Vatican area so this is quite a good deal. For other rooms I guess the prices are a bit steep? But if you can afford it, I heartily recommend taking a room here when enjoying your holiday in Rome.

Room Tip: If you are a solo traveler, consider taking a single room with shared bathroom. The shared bathroom...
