Prati (the area north of the Vatican west of the Tiber) is a very good place to base a visit to Rome and we found Hotel Gerber via TA and was absolutely super-satisfied with our stay. Close to main attractions in western Rome and only a block away from the Metro makes it a perfect base to explore Rome. The second largest shopping street (Via Cola di Rienzo) is also very close by. Prati is also conveniently quiet at night as opposed to other areas east of the Tiber. In the day there are also some local restaurants serving genuine Italian food. Gerber has also five free parking places in the street in front of the hotel which we appreciated a lot.

Room Tip: Ask for 428 "the wedding suite" which is a large double room on the top floor with own balcony. There is also a common balcony on the top floor which is very nice. It has no spectacular view but we loved sitting there with a glass of champagne watching the stars and just enjoying being in Rome.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Gerber. We were there over Easter, and it is a perfect location for visiting the Vatican. It is also just a quick block and some from the subway - a wonderful plus. We walked to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. It's an easy subway ride to the Ancient Rome area and to Bourghese Gallery. The neighborhood is quiet and a lot less touristy, which we enjoyed. There are very good restaurants and gelaterias in the area, but not right next door. Our room was a triple, which made it a perfect size for 2. We had an enclosed balcony which was perfect to have a glass of wine after a long day of touring. The water pressure was amazing. I had to turn it down, it was so strong. The tubs don't have shower curtains, just a little half door that lets water escape all over the bathroom. The bathrooms were very clean, and they seem to have no problem cleaning up the water. The breakfast was fine. No eggs, but everything else. What brings my review down from 5 circles to 4 is that the WIFI went out the first night we were there and the staff didn't really seem to care. They were spending more time talking to their friends outside who seemed to always be there. Granted it was over Easter and it is a holiday, but the response was, "Sorry" with a shoulder shrug. Also, the staff was not as friendly as other places we stayed in Italy. This is definitely the most "American" place we stayed. We would, however, go back.

Room Tip: We had a triple on the second floor front (can't remember the room number). It was a nice room and perfect for 2 people. 3 would have been crowded.

Hotel Gerber was our "home" for five days on our first trip to Rome. The staff was great in helping us find our way around the city. The room and hotel facilities were excellent. Travelers who appreciate a cozy, home-like hotel (as opposed to a shiny, hi-tech accommodation) will surely like Hotel Gerber.

The hotel is a few walkable blocks to Vatican City and a half-block walk to the Metro (Lepanto stop). A short walk further up Via degli Scipioni from the hotel is a great neighborhood dinner spot - La Pratolina.

Highly recommended!

This was a welcome, quiet hotel, not far from the Vatican. The staff allowed us to check in early, which is always a good sign of accommodation. Our room was a good size, the bed was large and comfortable.
Friendly staff, good value, location and neighborhood. We would certainly return.

The Gerber is a very well run family owned hotel. Yes the rooms and bathrooms are quite small - but when in Rome who wants to be in a room? Bathroom was new and very clean, and the bed was large and comfortable. Best of all, the rooms were very quiet. Breakfast was totally adequate - not exciting - but sufficient fuel for the morning before stopping at one of Rome's wonderful restaurants. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We walked from the hotel to the Olympic Stadium for the rugby, and we also walked to the Borghese Gardens, and one day all the way back from the Forum via all the favourite landmarks! Lepanto Metro station is all of 2 minutes walk away. All in all, thoroughly recommended,
