“Lovely hotel in wonderful location”
Reviewed 9 March 2013

We very much enjoyed a 3 night stay in this lovely elegant hotel. The location was perfect, just far enough away from the centre of Rome to feel totally relaxed but still within easy walking distance. The room was very comfortable and ornate, slept like a log in the very comfortable bed. It had a small balcony which gave us views across the very attractive neighbourhood: what a treat in summer. Breakfast was a wide selection of breads, meats and cheeses which was enough to keep us going until popping back in the afternoon for tea. We also enjoyed the hot chocolate on our return in the evening. The restaurants in the area are very good, particularly Da Felice a Testaccio which was only a short stroll from the hotel. Would definitely stay here again. PS Don't forget to peep through the keyhole.

Dear Guest,
We are thrilled to reed such a wonderfull review!
Thanks a lot. The staff and I are glad to know you enjoyed every minute of your roman stay....
From the balcony in your room to the afternoon tea and the hot chocolate in the cold evenings.
You've experienced also the local restaurants in Testaccio and you didn't miss the unique keyhole from which you can see Saint Peter's dome.
We are looking forward to take care of you in your next visit.

Lovely, romantic hotel located in the peaceful, beautiful area of Aventino. The hotel is surrounded by stunning monasteries and churches. Also as it is on a hill, the area of Aventine offers some awesome views of Rome. We were concerned that it would be quite remote, but it is an enjoyable walk to the main sights (we didn’t use public transport once), and a nice little retreat after walking about all day amongst the hustle of Rome. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated, and it was a pleasure to sit in the quiet garden and enjoy the complimentary afternoon tea. The service was fantastic and the staff were very accommodating.

This review is definitely a bit late in the making but was in Rome for 5 days in May of 2012 and made the right choice of staying at this gorgeous boutique hotel. Used to be a villa as evidenced by the charming neighborhood it's in. Some taxi drivers will have a difficult time finding it though so make sure to have GPS on your phone with the address ready. Even though I didn't use public transportation, it looked like it was easy to access the metro and taxis are easy to catch at the main streets to the north and south of Aventine Hill (and the hotel is pretty good at calling you a cab as well). Tiber River walking path is literally less than 5 minutes away and though the location isn't as bustling as Rome proper, you will definitely get a good night's rest here and the area seems very safe. Had a first floor room with patio that opened up to the garden but didn't have a chance to use the jacuzzi in the bathroom. Definitely more of a romantic theme which is weird since I was traveling by myself. The complimentary morning breakfast is excellent, can be taken in the garden if desired, and early enough for a early riser like me that you can go get breakfast and be the first in line for the Vatican morning tours. Also has a decent bar and lounge area for you to relax a long day enjoying all that Rome has to offer. Highly recommended and will probably stay here next time I'm back in Rome, hopefully traveling with a significant other haha

On the Aventine Hill, in a quiet leafy area of Rome yet with in easy walking distance of major sights (20 mins to Colosseum). Absolutely beautiful rooms. Ours opened out onto a balcony shaded by orange trees. Luxurious bathroom (jacuzzi bath etc) and very comfortable bed. Superb breakfasts with a wide range of meats, cheeses, fresh and dried fruit, cakes and pastries, etc. Afternoon tea and evening hot chocolate also included in the price. I would not hesitate to recommend this and if we ever return to Rome, it will be here that we shall stay!

Well, every now and then when staying away from home you get a gem of a hotel, not all the time, just every now and then. Ladies and Gentlemen, let me introduce to you a gem of a hotel, the Hotel San Anselmo! From your arrival to your departure, you are treated like royalty. The staff are incredibly friendly and anything requested in advance is catered for.

My girlfriend chose this hotel after reviewing a considerable number on Trip Advisor, based on our budget. She chose well. Not only is this hotel in a quiet and very affluent suburb of Rome, it's only a 15-20 minute walk to the Colosseum and city centre. If you want to taxi it, then the average price during the day is E10 and around E14 at night. The hotel is a little far from public transport stops, so if you're arriving or departing, my advice would be to get a cab.

The rooms are very classically styled, with large screen TV (BBC World News and CBS News available in English), large wardrobe, safe and very comfortable king sized bed, with two duvets. For such a high class hotel, the mini bar was actually reasonably priced, as is the bar downstairs. In the bathroom, you have marble tiles, jacuzzi bath, full body shower and bidet. Breakfast is typically continental, plentiful, fresh and delicious.

If you are looking to go to Rome, then I cannot recommend a finer establishment to stay.

My boyfriend & I stayed here in February 2013 for 3 nights. The decor is great and you truly feel like you're in an Italian villa, which is what appealed to us. It's got a lot of personality, is very stylish and modern yet is very cosy and welcoming. The bar seating area is very comfy and the staff are very helpful, you can feel you can really relax in the communal areas & your room.
The hotel is in a residential part of town (the taxi drive said where the movie stars and footballers live) which means it's extremely peaceful and relaxing around. The thick curtains ensure that you sleep with no problems and the hotel is quiet. It was a perfect place to retreat to form the hustle and bustle of Rome.
Breakfast, continental buffet of meats, cheese, fruit & pastries was lovely and worth getting out of bed for. They also had an afternoon tea from 4pm-6pm in the lounge area which was nice after a busy day of walking, to come back and rest in the lounge.
We were welcomed with Prosecco & strawberries in our room, which was a lovely treat, as well as a complimentary glass in the hotel bar as it was valentine's day in the evening.
The room and bed was very comfortable and the staff very accommodating to your needs.
Whilst it is slightly out of town, Rome is not a big city and everywhere was walkable. We only got public transport once and that was to be at the Vatican for 8am (take €14 for 15 minutes). The hill back isn't that bad but the weather when we were there was very mild and so might be more challenging in the heat but nothing that would put you off, walking from the city centre to this hotel really made you feel like you were in Rome and it seemed much nicer to stay in this area than the city centre.
We absolutely loved Rome, just wandering the streets, seeing sights around every corner and finding hidden restaurants to eat in and sitting in the sun having a drink was bliss. I'd recommend booking tickets for the Colosseum and Vatican and jumping the queues.
The staff at the hotel were very discrete, friendly and helpful. I'd definitely recommend this hotel, especially as it was so affordable.
We'll definitely be back to Rome and the San Anselmo hotel for another break.

This is an exquisite hotel located in the peaceful Aventino area of Rome. I was a little concerned that it might be too remote, but on arrival I was delighted to find that we could walk everywhere - the Colosseum is about 20 minutes away or the Vatican is a delightful 45 minute walk alongside the river. Our room was discreetly lit and had a lovely terrace plus a Jacuzzi bath. The décor was just right in my view - lavish but not too fussy.

All members of staff were very polite, helpful and accommodating at all times during our stay. I had requested a gluten-free breakfast beforehand and every morning I was brought an amazing basket of goodies just for me: bread, brioche, cakes, tartlets, etc. This was really impressive.

We had a wonderful time at the San Anselmo and this would definitely be our No. 1 choice for a hotel next time we visit the Eternal city.

Room Tip: We had room 803 on the ground floor - it had a lovely terrace. Although it was very near reception...
