“Wonderful !!”
Reviewed 27 August 2013

Spent a wonderful 2 nights at the hotel, wish it could have been longer. On arrival we were served lovely chilled fruit juices which were very welcome and then shown to our rooms. The decor in my room was lovely and had everything you could want, including very effective air con.The bathroom was spotless and had a good powerful shower. Room size was perfect for me but if you had alot of luggage, it may have been a little cramped, although you probably would not spend much time in the room anyway.

There is a very nice lobby/sitting area where you can relax and read a paper etc., this joins the breakfast room which is very nicely appointed, you can also eat in the lovely peaceful garden. Breakfast itself was excellent, with a wide choice of breads, pastries, fruit, meats, cheeses, cereals the list goes on. A special mention for the waiter in the morning, who was very helpful.

We thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary tea & cakes in the afternoons. As someone else mentioned, it would have been nice if there had been a little more variety on the bar menu for food (light snacks) at lunchtime, as there is nothing else in the vicinity. The gentlemen at the desk in the evening, gave us some good tips on restaurants (especially in the Testaccio area) and booked the tables for us.

The location is excellent, yes it is a 15/20 minute walk to the Colosseum etc, but there are buses/metro nearby and the taxis are very reasonable. It was worth staying here just to come back to the peace and tranquil surroundings of the Aventine Hill.

I would highly recommend staying here and hope to return soon.

One of the best hotels I've ever visited. Booked 4 nights at San Anselmo with my girlfriend for her first visit to Rome and was not disappointed! Definitely worthy of the top 25 ranking on TripAdvisor.

The hotel, while slightly 'off the beaten path', is tucked away in a very quaint residential neighborhood. Not an inconvenience though - you can literally walk (15/20 mins) to the Colosseum and Forum, and taxis are very affordable to get into and around town.

They have an incredible garden patio where breakfast is served, and is quite amazing. The rooms themselves have a lot of character, and ours was no different. We stayed in the "Poetry Room" and it was both spacious and had a great terrace overlooking a quiet street where we could sit and drink prossecco.

Overall, great experience - will definitely stay here again and have recommended it several times to friends and family!

Room Tip: Poetry room is very nice and overlooks a nice street where you can sit on the terrace and enjoy the...

I chose this hotel based on a previous Tripadvisor review which sounded too good to be true. Not only was the hotel, the rooms, the service beyond wonderful, there were many more magical surprises that were not mentioned. The atmosphere here is perfect. A quiet courtyard allows you to enjoy a delicious breakfast at your pace. Our waiter would surprise us with a different design on the foam of our cappuccinos each morning. The staff genuinely enjoyed providing high level service. The rooms are unique, elegant and beautiful. Location is perfect for sightseeing but within a quiet neighborhood with wonderful views. This hotel is an absolute gem!

We stayed as a couple in August 2013 for 3 nights at the beautiful (and wonderfully air-conditioned!) Hotel San Anselmo. Near the Circo Massimo and Colosseum, this hotel is in a great position for reaching all the main tourist spots, yet enjoys the tranquil setting high above the city, allowing you to have a great day in busy, bustling Rome, with the promise of an undisturbed sleep at the end of the day.

The rooms were spotless, fresh towels provided every day and the breakfast was delicious - fresh fruit, fresh bread, a selection of yogurts and local meats and cheeses mean the Hotel San Anselmo are able to cater for a variety of tastes (and I'm a fussy eater!)

Overall, this hotel is high on my recommendation list, and should we come back to Rome (we did put our coins in the Trevi Fountain!), this will most certainly be our hotel of choice! Thanks for a great stay.

Room Tip: Get the airport shuttle bus from Fiumicino as it is the first stop on the drop-off list (30 euros fo...

We had an absolutely lovely two night stay here in August 2013. Fabulous location in an exclusive part of town only 20 minutes walk from the Colliseum and Forum. Absolutely beautiful decor, opulent with a contemporary twist. Our triple room had a huge balcony overlooking the gardens - 812. Breakfast was lovely, either inside the grand dining room or outside in the private gardens. Will definitely be staying her on future trips to Rome and would recommend it to anybody visiting.

Room Tip: Room 812 has a fabulous balcony.

We recently stayed with our two teenaged children at the Hotel San Anselmo, with two rooms. Both rooms were lovely, with high ceilings and gorgeous bathrooms. The front desk staff graciously accommodated our request for a room change, when our original room assigned on the third floor was extremely hot. This was due to a heat wave in the city, and unfortunately the AC just wasn't able to keep up. It was a beautiful, character-filled room, though, with a lovely terrace. I do have to say that the cleanliness of that particular bathroom wasn't as pristine as the other two rooms we stayed in, as there was noticeable mould in the shower. As others have mentioned, the hotel is situated in a very beautiful and quiet area, which makes for excellent sleeps, but lots of walking! My only suggestion to the management would be that a somewhat expanded bar menu would be much appreciated: because there really are no restaurants close by, after an exhausting day of sightseeing and walking it would be nice to be able to return to the hotel and simply stay in and eat there. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Dear Margaret,
thank you for your positive comment.
We are glad to know you really appreciate our hotel S. ANSELMO, particulary the location, the service and also the rooms.
Thank you for the idea to increase the bar menu, we always appreciate suggestions because it's important for us in order to make the best for our clients and give them the chance to relax with something to eat, in our garden after a long day around the hot city.
In our area, there's just one restaurant closeby but it's right, if you are tired the best idea is to stay in the hotel and eat something fresh.
Hope to see you soon

When you see the hotel from outside and even when you are in the lobby, you imagine the rooms beautifully decorated. That didn't happen. The room we had was in burgundy and we hated it. We felt as if we were staying at Count Duckula's House. Service was great, though.
