“The Roman experience I dreamed about....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 April 2014

We've stayed at many a Ritz Carlton, W's, etc. For a quaint elegant Roman boutique hotel experience....stay here. We stayed in "Angelique" room (beige room with big billowy canopy) overlooking the courtyard. The scent of orange blossoms filled the room daily from a tree just beneath our open window. Bed is very hard and room itself was quite small with all of the drapery. Slept quite well after walking many miles around Rome each day. Breakfast is fantastic. Ask for a cappuccino each morning and have breakfast in the courtyard. Wear durable comfortable shoes. Walk up and down hill to town isn't very far, but a bit steep and rough surfaces. Do not forget to go to top of hill behind hotel to the old Church and look through the "peephole". Park nearby overlooks the city is breathtaking. Loved it. Don't forget your plug adapters!!

Room Tip: Spend a little more and get the largest rooms. We didn't mind too much, but most rooms are very...

This is a great hotel. It has character (each room is furnished differently) and atmosphere with period decorations. The Granducal room we stayed in was lovely. It is in a quiet residential area, surrounded by greenery. Being located just south of the Circus Maximus is an easy walk distance from many major sites (Roman Forum, Palatine) and decent restaurants. The front desk folks will arrange for a taxi to or from the airport for 48 euros--the standard price, but no extra charge for the hotel pick-up. All in all a great buy for the price.

Room Tip: We liked the Granducal. Ask for the room photos and select from them. There are pictures of each roo...

I Got a good offer on a room at this hotel. It was a scoop. Nice room with some outside space, where we could drink some coffee and gået our breakfast.
Not far from ancient Rome, but a bit of the Way from Centro.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights. It is situated in a quiet residential area, which is perfect to escape from the frenetic pace of the city centre. It takes about 20-30 mins to get to the Collosseum. There is a wonderful park nearby offering panoramic views across the city day and night. It is a very safe area and we would regularly walk through the park at midnight, to check out the views.

The room was a perfect design in a Classic Italian style, with a large balcony and panoramic view, though every room looks fantastic. Check out the hotel website. The room had air con, a free safe, free wi-if and a mini bar. The grounds were lovely, with tables set outside in amongst the orange trees. The smell was amazing and a lovely way to enjoy breakfast.

Breakfast itself was nice continental style breakfast, with a large selection. A variety of fruits, cold meats, cheese and pastries were available. Tea and coffee, fruit juice and yoghurt too. There was also a hot option of bacon and scrambled eggs.

I found that there was a lack of information in the room, such as what time breakfast was served or what facilities were available.

There didn't appear to be any details about where to go or what to do in Rome visible, which would have been useful though they did have street maps available behind the desk. A suggestion would maybe to have this information on a stand somewhere in the hotel? On the positive side however, the staff were really very helpful and polite. They did their upmost to make our stay enjoyable and we used reception to order taxis many times, which would arrive within minutes.

The only slightly disappointing aspect of the hotel was the ironing facilities (or lack of) in the room. Having to iron clothes in the hotel basement is not something I'd expect to do in a 4 * hotel.

However, aside from the minor irritation of the ironing I can safely say that this is a fantastic hotel, in a perfect location with wonderfully helpful staff. I hope the hotel can look at ways to improve the information in the room and reception, as well as find a better solution for those who wish to iron items of clothing. Nevertheless, do not let this deter you from staying. This is an amazing hotel in an amazing city. I can't wait to return.

Thank you Hotel San Anselmo for contributing to what has been the best holiday I have ever experienced!

After much research trying to find a decent, reasonable place in Rome we chose to stay in Hotel San Anselmo and we were not disappointed. It is located in a beautiful, up market area of Rome on the Aventine Hill full of tree-lined streets and stately homes. The rooms are romantic, clean and quiet. The service was good. The breakfast an excellent selection of cheeses, breads, coffee, tea, yogurt, eggs and bacon. There are areas to read and relax from a busy day of exploring. Highly recommended for those looking for excellent value for money.

Terrific stay. Everyone from the bell staff to the front desk, to the waiters at breakfast to the maids were all friendly, welcoming and very helpful. The front desk staff were great, especially the lady who checked us in, very helpful with restaurant recommendations and reservations, taxi, etc. good breakfast and a nice change of pace in a quite neighborhood. We'll definitely return.

We stayed at this hotel during our honeymoon and was our second destination. I had seen on here it was tricky to find so had emailed in advance for directions. Lucky for us it was light when we arrived so we found it with only a little help needed from a local lady! Upon arriving we were greeted by a very polite gentlemen at the front desk, whose first concern was to get us some cold drinks as it had been a hot walk to the hotel! After we had cooled down he then proceeded to book us in. Our bags were taken to the room by a friendly member of staff, and we found a bottle of fizz and strawberries waiting for us on the bed. It was a beautiful room with a lovely view, and was extremely clean. The bathroom wasn't huge, but was amazing with a powerful shower. Breakfast was fantastic, with a huge choice ranging from cold meats, cheeses, bacon, eggs, pastries, fresh fruit, smoked salmon etc. Bar and room service both available with a stunning garden for warm evenings. No restaurant on site however they were able to recommend a number of good local restaurants in a leaflet with star ratings as well as price ratings which was gratefully received. Located in a quieter area of Rome, but about a 20 minute walk from the Colesseum and other tourist sites. Cannot sing their praises enough, we had a fantastic time and my parents are hoping to go there for their anniversary this year after our recommendation!

Room Tip: Emailed to say it was our honeymoon and were given a larger suite with balcony overlooking the conve...
