“Modest hotel in a perfect location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

Hotel Grifo is located in a good spot, very near to colosseum and Forum Marinum. Nearby are also good reaturants and a good quality enoteca.
The room was small and in the top floor (penthouse), and the bad thing was that the AC didn't work. They gave us a fan from the reception and with that the room cooled down, so it was possible to sleep. The room and the area is very quiet, so the area is calm.
Breakfast is average, there was youghurt, mysli, bread, ham, cheese, croissant, tee, coffee, but there was no vegetables and fruits at all.
Best thing in the hotel is the staff. They really made us feel good staying there, and they made everything, that we would be satisfied.
I would definitely wan't to stay there again.

Broken air conditioning + loud streets with windows open = no sleep. Unclear when or if air conditioning will be fixed. Otherwise staff courteous, friendly and knowledgeable about area. Breakfast very nice.

location and staff are the high point of this hotel, as many reviews said people at reception makes you feel at home... And you dont want to leave.

We have 2 different stays in a triple bedroom both time, the first time we were at the 3 floor and the second at the first, the room at the third was much better, because of street noise from the restaurant crossing the street.
Size of the room Its adequate for 3, wifi always worked ok, the TV in room didnt have many channels , but in the second yes. The breakfast Its ok, there is always room and the ladies are always bringing more cornetos... Fresh Fruit could improve it a lot.

Dont hesitate in taking the pick up service from hotel, you get much more than a ride from the AirPort , a mini tour with a great friendly driver.

hotel Grifo location will make you enjoy real rome, Monti Its a and via del boschetto a lovely street from where to explore it.

the cleanning of the hotel Its very good, but as Rome Its humid you can see at the bathroom some trace of muld, but they are clean... As some reviews said maybe a little update in mainteinance could turn rooms to the same level of service the hotel staff offers to their guests.

All around the hotel you can find great places to eat, we walk from the hotel to every where, but if you need to use public transport Its just a festival blocks, and remember to ask for advice at reception as they could tell much better options even that Google maps.

about luggage storage, they kindly keep it safe.

Hope to be back to Hotel Grifo soon, and to see this lovely hotel preserved as it is a real gem as all the people working there.

As a surprise trip for my partner's 30th birthday I booked this hotel and am very glad that I did! The location is excellent, very close to the Colosseum and Roman Forum, which was excellent for evening strolls. Although located off the main street of Cavour, the hotel has easy access to the Cavour metro station and is surrounded by small supermarkets, cafes and restaurants.

Although basic, the room was very clean and had all the facilities that my partner and I desired, such as a fridge and air con. The rest of the hotel, such as the reception area, lifts and breakfast room were also very clean, which made the stay at the hotel very enjoyable.

Finally, the staff at the hotel were wonderful and couldn't help us enough. This was particularly apparent when handing the key in at reception before leaving the hotel each morning, whereby the staff made a conscious effort to try and remember your room number upon arrival back at the hotel late afternoon/early evening.

Stayed July 2014.

My partner and I chose this hotel due to how close it is to come of the sights, namely the Colosseum.

Upon arrival the gentleman behind the desk was very courteous, and we found the staff very friendly throughout the duration of our stay. The desk staff were always very polite and happy to give advice on places to go and which places to avoid.

Depending on which room you have, you could get a very good view. I cannot remember our room number, but you should see some images taken from the room in my review.

The hotel itself was more on the dated side, but not necessarily in a bad way. It was actually very pleasant. The dining room was quite cosy, and the breakfast was lovely (again, the staff were very nice).

Our room itself was clean, but very basic. There were shoe marks on the wall, and the air con unit only blew hot air, but aside from that the bed was very comfortable and it had basic amenities, such as a fridge, etc.

If you're looking for a hotel where you're going to spend most of your time, then this probably isn't it (although sitting on the balcony in the evening was very relaxing!). However, if like us you were looking for a hotel to come back to whilst not out walking and seeing the sites, this is a perfect place to stay.

We would definitely stay again.

We booked two different stays over the past few weeks and both were perfect! The entire staff is wonderful- i'm afraid to name names as i'll leave someone out-but here goes! Rosa, Allessandro, Simon, Georgia, were all very helpful and always pleasant! We love the neighborhood as you can walk to the Cavour Metro Stop, the Colosseum and there is a grocery market just up the road and a laundry service right next door. In fact we walked everywhere- Pantheon, Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navonna, Spanish Steps, Trastevere and even the Vatican. Restaurants abound. Our rooms (27 & 34) were both fine for our needs. Both were quiet as well. Breakfast was enough to start the day- bakery products, meats, cheese, yogurt, granola and fantastic coffee-- which i'm already missing!!

Stayed here April 2014 - The hotel is in a fantastic location, within walking distance to the Colosseum and other major attractions. The hotel staff were very helpful, able to recommend where to visit and eat. There are plenty of nice restaurants with walking distance. On arrival the receptionist spent a good 15 minutes explaining to us where to go and where to avoid on a map. The hotel is excellent value for money. Breakfast is continental and the rooms are a little on the small side but that is to be expected in Rome. I would defiantly recommend to everyone thinking of staying here.
