“Great Courtyard and Views, Great Value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014

Stayed here in May and fell in love with the place.
It became my home away from home and the staff and fellow guests were like a temporary family.
The courtyard is a haven within the bricks and mortar of central Rome and our top floor twin room also had a fabulous view across the city.
Breakfasts were amongst the best we encountered in 7 weeks of travel.
The staff were fantastic and highly obliging, going to great lengths to attempt to find cancellations for the Boghese Museum and underground at the Colloseum for us.
The room was quiet, spotless, spacious and airy.
Original artwork is a feature of the hotel throughout.
Guests were exceptionally friendly and interactive, largely because of the central courtyard and interactive lounge and reception, so lots of travel stories and recommendations were being shared.
We even received a welcome drink upon arrival!
Hotel Modigliani is central to the metro and Spanish steps and other iconic attractions of Rome and located within an area filled with fantastic bars and eateries.
Highly recommended. Can't wait to go back!
Also try La Scala around the corner for excellent and reasonably priced evening meals!

Room Tip: Ask for one with a view over the courtyard and city.

We stayed at the hotel Modigliani during the Spring of 2012. It was wonderful. We loved the location and walked everywhere from there. There were a few room options that fit our family of five, something that wasn't easy to find in Rome at a good price! There are OUTSTANDING restaurants near the hotel, suggested to us by the staff there. And, when we got back home and noticed my daughter forgot her special bunny in one of the rooms, I called them, they found it, and mailed it back to us! (Granted, they charged a lot to mail it back, but still, it was really nice that they went that extra mile to do so and my daughter's gratitude upon the return of her bunny made it all worth it!) We HIGHLY recommend the Hotel Modigliani!

We were at Modigliani the last week of December 2013, and were generally very pleased with our stay. The accommodations are very good, and the location is great. Staff were also generally very helpful and nice, with one glaring exception, and that made a definite difference in how we rank this hotel:

The kitchen staff who prepare and serve the hotel's breakfast (which is offered to guests as part of the room fee) on repeated occasions asked us as we arrived for breakfast if we wanted cappuccino. They then kindly went into the kitchen, prepared cups of cappuccino, and brought them to us.

But on each occasion, when we asked for a second cup, they acted offended, and pointed us to the self-serve cappuccino in the dining room, informing us that it was "the same" as the one in the hotel kitchen. There was, in fact, no comparison between the quality of cappuccino that the "instamatic" machine in the dining room produced, and the cappuccino produced by the machine in the kitchen.

I'm puzzled as to why the staff would offer to make cappuccino using their kitchen machine, and then appear to be offended when patrons asked for a second cup. This experience put us off the Modigliani to a certain extent, when everything else about the place was outstanding.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the street can be noisy, so if noise is a consideration, I'd recommend asking...

Thank you for your comment that will help us in keeping an high level of attention on the breakfast service: being a small boutique hotel, it is fundamental for us offering high standard services, so it is very important to us knowing your issues during the stay, in order to immediately find solutions for your satisfaction. Hotel Modigliani will be your Roman home forever.

The hotel is in an excellent location, very very close to the top of the Spanish Steps. While the hotel is very small, the staff was very attentive, responsive to our requests, thoughtful and helpful. The hotel was down a very narrow one-way street which was nothing to look at but everything from the entryway to the garden; to the breakfast room; to the guest rooms was very nice, clean, and well appointed. My wife and I were traveling with her sister and husband. The four of us lounged in the garden with a bottle of wine both days that we stayed here. It was a very nice respite between our afternoon walks and evening excursions.

I stayed here for two nights and was extremely pleased.  This is a very charming hotel which just sparkles with its beautiful polished marble floors throughout.  The rooms, while a bit on the small side, are spotless, and the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.  There is free wi-fi in the public areas, though the connection can be a bit slow at times.  The rooms are equipped with a mini-fridge, small safe, hair dryer, flat screen TV, and the usual assortment of amenities.  The  breakfast room is lovely and welcoming with its black and white marble floors.  In the afternoons, it serves as a bar and cafe serving light meals and snacks (though I didn't try the cafe - too many other dining choices in the area).  The hotel is located on a quiet side-street a couple of blocks from Piazza Barbarini.  The location is very convenient - Spanish Steps and Borghese Gardens are just a short walk away.  The hotel arranged for a car and driver to pick me up at the airport when I arrived - which was so welcome after a long transatlantic flight - and the cost was barely more than the cost of a taxi.  And they packed a substantial box lunch for me to take on the train when I departed.  They really go the extra mile to accommodate their guests.  I would most definitely stay here again.  And thank you, Rick Steves, for discovering this place!

Dear Guest , we are glad you enjoyed all the services we offered and especially about the bar and take away meal: our aim is following you during your journey and the creation of the brand new bar is a further service to make your stay even more carefree and easier.

Great location, clean, friendly, small but well appointed rooms and bathrooms. I think Modigiani is a real find!
Quiet apart from thoughtless visitors chattering loudly as they passed our door in the mornings!

My husband & I just celebrated our 20 year anniversary by spending 2 weeks in Italy. Flew in & out of Rome. We purposely stayed at 2 different hotels, just for fun. We learned that we LOVED Hotel Modigliani!!! Great location, friendly staff with great recommendations, nice breakfast, & lovely rooms. Would definitely stay there again!
