I choose this hotel for my 1st trip to Rome based on price & location & am so HAPPY that I did. I spent 6 nights. Staff was always helpful with directions/recommendations. Most major sites are between a 10-30 minute walk. I felt safe walking to/from the hotel at night alone. Lots of great cafes nearby. I always recommend bringing earplugs when staying in city hotels as rooms are usually not sound proof. I could hear neighbors & street noise (I like to keep windows open), but nothing too loud that kept me awake. I thought the breakfast selection was good & kept me full until early afternoon. I was able to store some drinks in minibar. The price, location & support from hotel staff really made this a great vaca!! I would recommend taking taxi from Termini station to hotel on day of arrival until you get your bearings on the area.

We stayed 5 nights at the Hotel Fontanella Borghese with our 2 teenage (11 and 13) children and we were so pleased with our choice. We wanted a hotel centrally located, clean and with firm and comfortable beds as my husband suffers from a bad back. We got everything we wanted. I followed some previous guests advice and requested 2 quiet rooms. Our room was larger than I imagined it would be (it had a desk), simply furnished and with a huge bed. It was quiet and overlooked the internal courtyard. The kids bedroom was as good but overlooked a side street and was more noisy. Luckily it wasn't too warm at night so they shut the window. We all slept so well - which is very rare for me in hotels!
The location was fantastic. So central we walked everywhere and never took any transport in 5 days. We walked to the Vatican, the Colosseum and the Forum, the Quirinal and of course all the closer places such as Spanish Steps, piazza Navonna, Trevi Fountain......
I had read from former trip advisors reviews that the customer service was good. This is so true. The whole team was amazingly kind and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Anything from changing our pillows which we found a bit high on the first night, to printing online tickets, drawing maps to a fab gelatoria round the corner (Thks Khaled!), good recommendation on restaurant (Thks Cinzia), booking taxi (don't bother with online pre booked taxi from airport. Ask the hotel to book you one with Carlo and you will get a guided tour of Rome on the way to the hotel!).
Breakfast was good and plentiful.
I have already recommended Hotel Fontanella to some friends and will stay there on my next visit.

Room Tip: Ask by email for a quiet room

I have stayed at the Hotel Fontanella Borghese during several different visits to Rome over the past few years and believe it represents a very good value and reliable hotel in the heart of the historical center of Rome.

The hotel is located on the second and third floors of a building that is accessed through large double wooden doors that lead into a private courtyard. The rooms are not very large, as is the case with many urban hotels, however they are clean and comfortable with good air conditioning. The staff are friendly and very helpful with directions and recommendations.

The great advantage and value in this hotel lies in its location and proximity to the historical sites and places of interest in Rome, including the Spanish Steps, Villa Borghese, Piazza del Popolo, Pantheon, Piazza Navonna, Trevi Fountain, Piazza de Venezia and Capitoline Hill.

If you like, as I do, to walk around a city for exercise and to get a real feel for its character, you can even walk from the hotel to the Roman and Imperial Forums, the Colosseum and Palatine Hill by simply following the Via del Corso southward to Piazza de Venezia. Or you can take the Metro from the Spagna stop (near the Spanish Steos) to the stop at the Coloseo.

Another great long walk is to cross the Tiber River and head to Castel Sant'Angelo and the Vatican at St. Peter's Square.
The hotel is also just steps from the Via Corso and Via dei Condotti, which along with area around the Piazza de Spagna is one of the best shopping districts in Rome.

Stayed for 3 nights and realized this is way too short, especially for the first time. The location is overwhelming! Close to everything and absolulutely no need in transport of any kind (except when going back to the hotel after having too much Chianti :-)). The smiling and welcoming Staff is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Always ready to help, to suggest and make you feel good in generally.
Cynthia and Milena (and Shooshoo) - you are adorable and i miss you guys already.

Definatelly coming back for longer stay and ONLY to Fontanella Borghese.

Room Tip: The hotel is small and cosy, so there is no real difference between rooms.

We stayed on the top floor and this room was a little smaller and felt older. Thee rooms could use some updates, but the hotel is clean, a wonderful location, and we will stay there again on our next trip to Rome.

This was our first visit to Rome and we wanted to be within walking distance of the maximum of sites of interest as well as to be able to rely on the good advice of the hotel team in terms of where to go and where to eat.
We could not have found better!
The hotel was clean and quiet - very cosy and welcoming
During our stay ,we needed no taxi's, buses, metros - all was close by.
The suggestions for restuarants - at all levels of price - was always spot on.
The helpfulness of the team was always as wanted - not intrusive and always comprehensive.
A big "thank you" to everyone.
