Great location, very clean, friendly staff, and nice breakfast included. Beautiful garden courtyard filled with orange trees. We stayed on the second level (Room 15). We enjoyed sitting on the upper outside patio every morning and evening. Free bicycles available for use, locks included. Very nice and a great value.

Hotel Santa Maria is ideal for a relaxing, peaceful stay. The rooms are all on the ground floor and set around a couple of courtyards full of orange trees. It's a beautiful setting and quiet, although you can often hear local musicians playing in the nearby square which is actually a bonus.

We stayed in a family suite which was ideal for our needs, clean and pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful and the staff in the breakfast room in particular were lovely. We stayed over Easter and there were complimentary Easter eggs given to us at breakfast. The range of food available for breakfast was excellent.

The hotel isn't very central for sightseeing Rome and you do need to walk a little way to reach any public transport, but the area immediately surrounding the hotel is full of character and it's a lovely place to come back to after a day exploring the city.

My children loved the hotel and we would definitely go back as a family again.

This is a great hotel in Rome. The room was very nice and the bed very comfortable. It's clean and well staffed. The rooms are situated around a patio with orange trees-very beautiful. The breakfast is great. It is located in a wonderful neighborhood full of restaurants and shops and a beautiful church. The streets are a maze and very narrow so the taxi dropped us in the piazza and we had to search a bit for the hotel-but well worth it! When we left a taxi did come to the hotel-she barely made it through the narrow streets, but it is possible!

In the heart of Trastevere, the Hotel Santa Maria provides a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of a few hectic days in Rome. It is less than a couple of minutes' walk to excellent restaurants, bars and shops within Trastevere itself but a longer walk is required to get to the main sights of Rome.
The hotel itself has a very nice courtyard area which you can sit in and enjoy a coffee or a drink from the bar. The room we stayed in was spacious and very comfortable with tasteful decor. A definite recommendation if you want to avoid staying in the centre of Rome.

The hotel was entirely sufficient and the staff responsive to our every request. We stopped by a couple days early and asked that our daughter be able to check in as we would be arriving late, not a problem, the staff was very helpful to her as well. Our request to have a taxi at 6 AM, was spot on, got a call about 5:58 that our taxi was waiting. The breakfast was quite nice as was the afternoon snacks, just the right thing for folks working on adjusting to a later dining hour.

Room Tip: We had a triple room, I beleive it was referred to. A queen bed on one room and a single in the othe...

We recently stayed at Hotel Santa Maria for six nights and were very happy with our visit. The room was comfortable and very clean and we were delighted with the lovely courtyard filled with orange trees where we were able to sit and enjoy coffee or a snack . Breakfast was provided each morning; it was plentiful and varied with cereals, scrambled eggs and pastries as well as the more traditional European breakfast fare of meats, breads and cheeses. Coffee, made to order, was available as well as a variety of juices and fruit. While Hotel Santa Maria does not serve meals other than breakfast and a snack in the afternoon, a wealth of restaurants is available outside the gates of the hotel. The Trastevere neighborhood, where the hotel is located, has a well-deserved reputation as the place where locals come to dine. We ate each evening in Trastevere and were not disappointed. The hotel is located "across the river" from the major sites but everything is easily accessible by public transportation (taxi, bus, metro) or by walking. We walked everywhere. It was lovely to come back to our neighborhood each evening and escape the hustle and bustle of central Rome . The neighborhood is a very old one comprised of small, twisting streets; great for strolling about before or after dinner. It is a bit gritty in spots but that is part of its charm because it is a real neighborhood and feels like one. We very much enjoyed our stay at Hotel Santa Maria; the staff was friendly and attentive to our needs. We would definitely stay there again on a return trip to Rome.
