Just returned from a stay here and it was just as wonderful as when we stayed here 8 years ago. It is amazing to have such a peaceful, tranquil spot to return to after a busy day exploring Rome. IThe rooftop terrace and garden courtyard are perfect spaces to relax before heading out for the evening. The location in Trastavere is perfect with access to public transportation, shopping and many excellent restaurants and nightlife.

This was our second stay at Hotel Santa Maria. The last time was 10 years ago, and we were just as pleased this time as we were the last time. The charming hotel, formerly a convent, is on a narrow street right in the heart of Trastevere, but out of the hustle and noise of the piazzas. The rooms are homey and comfortable, but with all modern conveniences including WiFi. The continental breakfast is more varied than you might expect, with different selections every day. In mild weather, it's wonderful to start your day with breakfast on the patio under the orange trees. In the evening, the patio is a great place to sit with a glass of wine from the happy hour bar. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful, as well as knowledgeable about restaurants and shops in the neighborhood. They have bicycles you can borrow to explore the area. There is a city bus stop and tour bus stop just across the river.

Room tip: Newer rooms 11 and 15 are upstairs on a patio with tables and loungers. Other rooms, all on the first floor, open onto central patios with orange trees and tables & chairs.

We have just spent the last of our journey round Italy in Rome and stayed at the wonderful Hotel Santa Maria. The rooms are excellent, bathrooms very well appointed. The sun terrace is beautiful and a lovely place to sit and catch some rays or read a book. Breakfast is served in the lovely room off the courtyard or you can sit under the orange trees in the courtyard and eat. The happy hour is a lovely touch where you can enjoy an aperative before going off round the vibrant streets for dinner. The staff were all so helpful and accommodating. Cant wait to return.

Room tip: All the rooms looked beautiful - we stayed in the Junior suite which was wonderful. With a large window that overlooked the roof tops. The room was just off the sun terrace too.

Wow. We were blessed to spend a couple of weeks in Italy and we stayed at Hotel Santa Maria for a few days. Its a great place to stay in Trastevere--tranquil and beautiful, the rooms are nice, very clean, the people are super friendly and accommodating. The courtyard is beautiful and very well kept. It's very quiet at the Hotel, but note, the neighborhood near the hotel is a pretty vivacious and lively at night. Ah Rome.

This was our fourth September stay in Santa Maria and we wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Trastevere is great - it really comes alive at night when all the streets are lined with tables outside the restaurants and bustling with people, especially at the weekend. Santa Maria sits quietly behind Piazza Santa Maria and when the gate closes behind you, you enter a calm and tranquil haven. The hotel has just 19 rooms arranged around the courtyard where breakfast is served beneath the orange trees. Each evening, when you buy a drink from the bar, complimentary light snacks are served, and to relax in the courtyard with a glass of wine after a busy day sightseeing, is simply sublime. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Can't wait to go back again!
