I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights with my sister. We got a taxi from Trastevere train station as it was around 9pm but the taxi driver couldn't find the hotel, so we spent quite a while driving around the streets until he found it. Check in was quick and we were immediately made to feel welcome. (Taxi journey back took about ten minutes!)
Our room was small, but clean with everything we needed. We had a room which didn't overlook the main courtyard and orange garden, but we had our own terrace area which was lovely. The hotel is generally lovely and quiet, just inside the gates from the local area. Breakfast was always good with plenty to choose from, and lovely to sit outside to have this. We also had a drink during happy hour- nice and relaxing and the choice of complementary food at the bar was great! The staff at the hotel were great- always friendly and helpful, and very hard working.

The Trastevere area is a great place to stay in Rome. It's just a short walk across the river to the sights, and has a really nice atmosphere. There are so many nice places to eat and drink, and I felt very safe there, a lot of tourists stay here without it feeling spoiled.

If I returned to Rome I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the Santa Maria again.

This is a beautiful secluded hotel in a wonderful area, with numerous small restaurants where you can eat in the evenings, and easy walking to river and many sights. Rome was very hot and crowded & it was fabulous to be able to come back to the peaceful atmosphere. Only 2 criticisms - it's hard to find. Take airport 1 or 3 train to Travestere, then tram 8, get off last stop before river, and walk down Lungaretta St. And the breakfast needs more fresh fruit.

The hotel is located in a friendly and calm place. Leaving the door, you are in the beautiful borough of Trastevere.
The breakfast is good, especially the Italian Coffee.
The garden is very calm and nice to sit there.
The staff as well is helpful and friendly.

Overall, a great hotel where you can relax after a busy day.

Others's comments describe this little gem, so there's no need here. It's as close to being home as you can get as a tourist in Rome. Using public transport for your sightseeing is easy enough, but be prepared for some walking. If you're sensitive to noise at night, bring some earplugs - but it's not a rowdy environment. Indeed, it's a refuge most of the time. We loved the location as a base for our sightseeing and Trastevere is a great locale itself. The staff were faultless in all respects. We stayed in fancier hotels in our Italian sojourn, but we smiled more here.

We had a very pleasant stay in Trastevere in october 2013. Beautiful place. Quiet and clean. Very nice staff who wanted to help us even if we didn't ask for it. The shower was large enough for a tall husband and the cats were discrete trying not to bother us. (We like cats) The evenings under the orange trees were magic and our room on the upper floor was spacy enough. I was a little bothered with the humming from the air condition fans outside but I never travel without ear plugs. The views from the terrace was very exotic with its balconys and many different windows. We really felt far from home.

Room Tip: Rum 11 var mycket trevligt men har man sömnproblem kan brummande fläktar vara besvärande. Takterrassen låg precis utanför men där var aldrig några människor så den kändes nästan som vår egen.
