“Enchanting Boutique Hotel in Trastevere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014

Forget the busy conventional hotels in downtown Rome. Think instead of a lovely enclave on a tiny street in quaint Trastevere and you'll envision the lovely Hotel Santa Maria. Clustered around a lovely garden studded with perfect orange trees, the rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. (If you can, request Room 11, which also has access to another lovely little terrace and affords extra privacy.) You can walk to central Rome in just a few minutes, and a 2-minute walk will take you to the exquisite church of Santa Maria, a plethora of great shops, restaurants and cafes. It's a busy and enjoyable scene at night when Trastevere really comes alive, but it's also tempting just to relax and enjoy the incredible ambiance of the lovely garden. A generous breakfast is included as well as a lovely Happy Hour, where we relaxed over wine and a delicious array of small appetizers. This is a perfect little hotel and we can't imagine staying anywhere else when we visit Rome.

Room Tip: Room 11 is a gem, up a little stairway from the other rooms and looking out on another little terrac...

A terrific place to stay. We stopped here on our last leg of our Italian trip and were blown away. If you want somewhere different and an oasis in the middle of a vibrant area, this is the place. The surrounding streets are the place to be! Hard to find but worth the effort!

Room Tip: The junior suite was excellent. We were a couple but the extra space was worth it.

This hotel was everything we could have wished for-It was beautiful and comfortable and so incredibly convenient to so many restaurants and sites. We could walk everywhere! The staff were wonderful! Even on the last day when we misunderstood the time our taxi was coming- the owners paid 10 euros themselves to have them wait while we quickly packed up our things. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this beautiful spot.

Room Tip: Every room would be perfect but it was worth the little extra for the suites up the stairs

We ended our Italian holiday at the Hotel Santa Maria and could not have asked for more. Everything everyone else has written is true, this is a beautiful oasis in the middle of a vibrant location. As soon as you walked in the gates, there was an immediate calming effect. Happy hour and breakfast were extremely pleasant under the orange trees with excellent service, we could not have asked for more. The staff at reception, the bar/breakfast room were all extremely friendly and helpful. The food at breakfast and in the evenings was excellent. The furnishings are basic but clean. I would return for sure and recommend to anyone.

Gorgeous area...just how I thought Italy would be....tiny streets wrap around this hotel & every street is full of small shops & places to eat, drink, hang out...you could just stay in Trastevere. The itself hotel is truly beautiful! A tranquil place to return to after touring about during the day...the centre courtyard.... lined with Orange trees ....and lovely places to sit and relax....and dream of staying a little longer!? The hotel staff are very lovely & more than helpful!! It was a sigh out to arrive here!Caters for families...larger rooms if needed. B-fast also fantastic. Free Wifi....
Loved it !!

I booked this hotel as my girlfriend and I were celebrating my 40th Birthday. We had a warm welcome from the receptionist and as the room wasn't quite ready (we were early) we were served coffee in the gorgeous courtyard under the orange trees.
Our room was small but very nicely decorated and fitted out. All of the rooms are situated around the courtyard which is a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle in the surrounding streets.
The location in Trastevere is excellent situated just off a small piazza. Lots of restaurants nearby and the main attractions of Rome a half hour stroll away.
The hotel was perfect and added to the magical experience of this fantastic city. I also proposed to my girlfriend at the top of nearby Gianicolo Hill overlooking the city which topped it all off (she said Yes!!!).
We'll be going back to Rome again in January 2015 and will definitely be staying at Hotel Santa Maria.
Thanks to everyone for making our stay so special.
Mark and Maria.
