“I love Hotel Santa Maria”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2009

My husband and I travel to Italy a couple of times a year to visit family and we always stay at the Hotel Santa Maria. It is a charming hotel in a great location. It is secure, quiet and the staff is so helpful. I've stayed other places in Rome, but nothing compares to Hotel Santa Maria. The rooms are simple and clean with cheery paintings and comfortable beds. Nice, modern bathrooms.

They have a lovely, quiet court yard with orange trees. In the spring the scent of the blossoms is amazing. There are chairs for lounging, bikes for a spin around the city and rooms that work well for singles, couples and families. They offer a great breakfast and afternoon afternoon happy hour, serving typical Roman treats.

The Trastavere neighborhood is with in walking distance of everything you would like to see in Rome. It is full of excellent restaurants, coffee shops and gelato. It's a neighborhood that feels like real Rome, not tourist Rome. One of the wonderful things about the Hotel Santa Maria is very close to a large piazza, which makes for excellent people watching.

The staff is great and take care of our every need. They will arrange for a paid car service to and/or from the airport which is great when you have jet lag coming in or an early flight out in the morning.

The best part of staying here is the charming location and the only thing I don't like is that at some point I have to leave! For a room in Rome, it's an excellent value.

Enjoy!

We loved the location of the Hotel Santa Maria, down a quiet alley in Trastevere. Rome is such bustling, loud city, that it was great to get away to this tranquil spot and relax. Trastevere is a great location -- an easy walk from the sights, but really another world from the busy tourist-ridden centro storico, and a nice selection of restaurants nearby. The courtyard is lovely and peaceful. The evening "happy hour" snacks were a great way to relax before dinner. Breakfast was wonderful. The only negative was that our room was small and dark, and didn't really have a place to sit and read or relax. But in a city like Rome, space is hard to come by. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

A gem. Family run, this small hotel is perfectly situated to visit all the sights in central Rome. Very comfortable beds in small but quiet rooms make for excellent sleeping. The staff is very helpful and friendly and . generous with everything from breakfast buffet goodies, evening appetizers, to maps and restaurant recommendations, Most of the guests seem to be American and Canadian and the staff is happy to speak English or help you practice your Italian if you prefer. Hotel Santa Maria is an oasis of peacefulness, Most of the rooms open onto a quiet courtyard full of orange trees where guests can and often do relax at tables in the sun, even in the winter, sometimes with a glass of wine or a cappucino. A few steps from this garden tranquility, outside the gates of the hotel, you emerge into the bustling, cobblestoned Travestere neighborhood, full of people, cafes and shops and within walking distance to all the major sightseeing spots. Three minutes from the hotel is the lovely Piazza Santa Maria (don't miss seeing the inside of the beautiful church, the oldest church in Rome). My husband and I have been traveling for nearly a year and have stayed in lots of hotels including many nice 5 stars and have never given accolades, or even written a review about any other hotel We stayed at this one over a week and went back a month later because we had such a good stay.. This hotel has the charm of a small boutique hotel and the straightforward detailed quality service of a family run business that cares about the needs of its guests. Very comfortable. The Santa Maria is also extremely well priced, a great value in a city that does not have a lot of good options in that category.

Hotel Santa Maria in Trastevere was ideal for me, my husband and 14 year old son. A stone's throw from the square, cafes, gelato...lots to explore and removed from the main hustle and bustle of Rome across the Tiber but within walking distance. The Hotel itself was fantastic...our windows opened onto a charming courtyard filled with orange trees with little tables for relaxing or having a drink/snack. The Hotel had a really good breakfast with excellent cappuccino and opened the bar area later in the day for free appetizers with cash bar. Since dinners are late, it provided the perfect opportunity to get a glass of wine, some app's and hang out in the courtyard. The restaurants in Trastevere are excellent as well. Everyone at the Hotel was friendly and helpful. Couldn't ask for more and will definitely be back!

A very nice hotel, well suited also for families with children as it has a spacious outdoor area with a locked gate. Wonderful breakfast, a complimentary buffet in the afternoon and all kinds of restaurants just around the corner. Very nice and helpful staff.

This is a lovely hotel set in a great neighborhood for walking about - Trastavere. Take the bikes out for a ride in the neighboring park if you have the time. The staff is excellent and very friendly. The room - junior suite - was lovely and the court yard is a haven from the bustling tourists in the center of Rome.
