“Like Rome - a fading beauty?”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2009

This was our second stay at the Santa Maria and while many things were as good as we remembered(and as others have commented) a few little cracks are starting to appear. The service was certainly not perfect - we never had a 'happy hour' on any of the 4 nights we were there. OK thats not really a big deal. Also two follow up emails after we left went unanswered and the hotel reminds me a bit about Rome itself - spectacular as long as you overlook the graffiti, the lack of concern about their monuments etc. However we had a great time and will be back - but i think we are ready to try another hotel although still in the same location

Hotel Santa Maria is a perfect place to stay in Rome.

My husband and I loved our stay there. The courtyard is beautiful and relaxing- a great place for breakfast or a drink after a day of sightseeing. The room was spacious, comfortable, and well kept. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

The staff was also wonderful. THey were very friendly with giving us information about things to do and how to get places. The bar staff was amazing and helpful as well. We had wonderful cappucinos every morning, and delicious wine in the evenings.

The location couldn't be better. It's within walking distance to everything in Rome, but Travestere allows for feeling outisde of the hustle and bustle of the big city. There are plenty of neighborhood shops and restaurants that are worth a visit too.

This was a wonderful place!

To anyone considering coming to Rome, all I can say is stay at the Santa Maria Hotel! Eating the wonderful breakfast in the sunny, orange tree covered courtyard while the Trastevere bells ring out in the nearby Santa Maria Piazza will be a memory I keep with me forever.
The rooms were clean and comfy, the staff were welcoming and friendly and Trastevere itself has fast become one of my favourite places in the world. Despite the hustle and bustle of Rome, the hotel is quiet and relaxing - but close enough to the action when you want it. I would go back tomorrow.

From the courtyard, you can't tell that you are steps away from the big city! We stayed there two times this month on either side of a cruise. They were very accommodating and had our room ready early AM upon our arrival. We were in a suite, with a king bed and two bunk beds for the children. The breakfast in the courtyard was what we looked forward to with each visit. The cappuccino's are to die for and the buffet spread is great: juices, fruit, yogurt, breads, eggs, meats etc. They were great to refer us to nearby restaurants for dinner, and didn't steer us wrong there. The only complaint I had was misinformation about the cost of a transfer that they set up for us, but that had nothing to do with the stay at the hotel itself. I would highly recommend the hotel for a stay, and plan to go back myself in the future!

We stayed with our two children for two days at this hotel and were very impressed. I liked the fact that our quadruple room had built in beds for the children, not just camp beds in the corner. The location is ideal with plenty of bars and restaurants right on the door step. I would recommend the collection service from the airport, as it made travelling to the hotel completely stress free.

We loved this hotel - we were travelling with an infant and this hotel was perfect for us. The rooms are on ground floor, sourrinding a orange garden. It makes it easy when having a baby wagon. It was also great since we could sit outside on the evening with a bottle of wite wine while the baby was sleeping in the room (10 mtrs away).

Perfect loaction with a lot of attractions close by.

Friendly staff, nice clean and cool rooms!

My husband and I and our two children (aged 11 and 8 ) stayed at hotel Santa Maria from 3rd to 8th of July 2009 based on the excellent reviews read on the tripadvisor website. It is an absolutely beautiful place to stay. An oasis of peace and calm in the wonderful city of Roma. The hotel is situated in a narrow street leading from a lovely piazza. It was great to eat breakfast in the little court yard under the orange trees. The evening complimentary snack buffet was also a lovely treat.

Our room had bunk beds for the boys. So important as most accomodation for 4 includes two double beds. The decor was lovely. We had a slight problem with our shower and water sometimes over flowed on to the bathroom floor . My husband found the bed very uncomfortable as he sometimes suffers with back problems. The boys and I had no problem sleeping. An amazing sound at nightwas the clarity of sea gulls cries..It is such a shame there is so much graffiti on the street walls and in Rome generally.

The hotel staff were corteous and helpful The restaurant recommended by the hotel was one of the nicest places to eat in Italy. So be sure to ask for recommendations and advice. I would definitely recommend this hotel to travellers visiting Rome. Due to the hotel's location and ambiance you really feel part of Rome. Book now you won't be disappointed.
