“Lovely hotel... Bad location”
Reviewed 29 September 2013 via mobile

My stay at the aldrovandi residence was lovely, big room and nice bathroom.

We were under the impression that we were a short walk away from the city centre but that was not the case.

You have two choices either get a tram what takes about 45 or to walk that is half an hour.. And that is if you know where you are going, as we got lost through the park the first time as the directions giving to us by the hotel staff were awful.

And do not ask for recommendations for food either.. They send you to a over priced restaurant what is nothing amazing with terrible atmosphere!

If you stay here I would recommend a restaurant that is in a shorter walking distance
You turn right out the hotel and right again, walk all the way to the bottom and you get to a road don't cross over as there are two other restaurants there, just turn right and walk.

The food was amazing! We ended up going 3 nights in a row with excellent service!

Overall the hotel was lovely just not an ideal place to stay if you want to be in the city centre!

Dear Guest

thank you for sharing your experience and compliments about our historical building and services. We apologize for the the timing of public transportation but during your stay there were many events in our city and the traffic went crazy. Usually the transportation brings you in 10 minutes to the metro or 15 minutes at the Colosseum where you can enjoy sightseeing or pick the Roma City Tour Bus. Villa Borghese Park is in front of us and with 10 minutes walking you are on top of Piazza del Popolo in the heart of the city watching from the amazing lookout of Pincio square. In our especial area you can find many restaurants for all tastes and expectation.
Best Regards

My husband, daughter and I stayed in August. We were very impressed by the location, the warm welcome we received upon arrival, from the front desk and the housekeeper. Our room was perfect, a large bedroom, lounge, dining room with small but well stocked kitchen (hidden behind doors) Everything was spotless and we received a supberb bottle of complimentary Chianti!

The breakfast buffet was excellent and the lovely lady who served breakfast to us every morning was very friendly and smiley. Choice was really good and every day there was something new to try.

We were there late August when most Italians are on their holidays, and so we found a lot of nearby restaurants were closed. The very nice man at reception told us of a restaurant (10 minute walk) which was so good, we went there every night of our stay (3 nights)
We struggled a bit - knowing how to get tram/bus tickets and which bus/tram takes you where, and more importantly, how to get back!
One piece of advice would be for the hotel to pre-print instructions about buses and trams, where they go to and how to get back, where to get tickets etc. I think that would be helpful.

The best part for us was the pool!! Fantastic - After a hot day in Rome, where better to go than the relaxing, comfortable sunbeds and the super clean swimming pool.
If you want night life then maybe this hotel is not for you, but if you want to see Rome and stay in a quiet, safe and beautiful location at an excellent price, then this place ticks all the boxes.

Room Tip: We had a garden facing room which was lovely and quiet

Stayed in July. Room was clean and spacious. Service professional and helpful. Great to return to the pool to cool down when it was 40 degrees outside. Easy downhill walking to centre (Piazza del Popolo) but a long uphill return. Trams and buses stop outside though. Etruscan and Modern Art museums around the corner and worth visiting. Free wifi a bonus - will return.

My friend and I were very surprised to find out the luxury of Aldrovandi Residence Suites. The price is cheap when you look at what you get for the price. The breakfast buffet was overwhelming, and everyday there was something new on the table to choose from. The free Wi-fi all over the hotel is good. And there was not a thing they would not help us with at the front desk.
It was a bit difficult to find the hotel at first. But as soon as we figured out what kind of transportation to take, just outside the main door, it was so easy to get around in the city.

The room was very spacious. Two bedrooms and a kitchen. The location is quiet and only a 15 minute walk through the Borghese gardens to the Piazza del Popolo and a metro stop. Great for visiting all day and then home to a beautiful pool. Very highly recommended.

We had a very narrow / defined wish list for our stay in Rome, in the heat of July for our family of 2 adults / 2 children. We wanted 2 bedrooms (with separate beds for the kids in the 2nd bedroom), a full kitchen, located in or near the main central part of Rome and above all, we wanted a swimming pool so the kids could cool off after sightseeing / walking in the heat. I could be wrong, but I think Aldrovandi Residence City Suites is the ONLY hotel that met these objectives & we could not have been happier with our choice.

Some things are a little odd - such as needing a new / different password every day, for each separate device, for the free wifi - and it might be getting a little old - but for the important things, the hotel is perfect for families

1. Our Maxi Senor Suite was huge - 2 separate bedrooms, courtyard, large lounge / dining room & kitchen (although the 2nd bedroom was a little tight - basically just 2 single beds, nothing else)

2. Kitchen was adequate to allow us to at least have one meal in - it was not needed for breakfast as a fantastic breakfast buffet was included in our room rate.

3. The hotel is on Villa Borghese, just out of the central part of Rome. It was a leisurely 15 minute walk through the park to the Metro at Piazza del Popolo and also never more than 10 Euro cab fare when returning from sightseeing or a restaurant. The front desk staff also pointed us in the direction of an excellent supermarket (10 min walk), which was also near some nice restaurants. We tried the Brazilian one next to the cinema (cannot remember the name) - it was very good.

4. But most of all - the pool is sensational. Rome can be very hot and also very tiring. The pool was a god send with the kids and well worth the few extra Euro's staying here. We had two very long days - one on foot around Rome & one by bus to Assisi - and so we said the next day was for our 9 year old to chose what we did. We never left the hotel / pool!! It was a great day re-charging the batteries, about half way through our Italian adventure.

If you are a family, visiting Rome in summer, this is a perfect base to explore the city but also to relax & unwind when not dealing with the hussle & bussle of the city.
