My wife and I stayed at the Apollo for 4 nights in September 08.
Booked via expedia.
Room was clean and tidy, bathroom very good with plenty of room. .Bed very comfortable
Towels odd to start with but actually superb at drying yourself.
Room cleaned to a high standard.
Breakfast very good with a lovely 4th floor location.
Pleasent staff all round.
Good base to explore Rome.
Good Argentine restaurant 400m down via serpenti then turn right on via Cavour then around 400m on right. Superb sangria !!!!!!!!! with music during meal.
Would recommend the Apollo Hotel to anybody visiting Rome.

We chose this hotel becouse of the good rate that it has in the trip advisor but i think that it doesen't worth it ! Maybe our rooms where not as good as others . First of all the bathroom had a really small shower cabin , the presoure of the whater was not strong , there was a drop of urine on the wc the first day we arived (!) , there were no towels!!! i dont know how to call them kitchen towels maybe! and they were also torn and the last day dirty and 3 small(2 for the body they didn't have a big one).
We stayed at the first floor and it was noise enought. We could hear the telephone ringing in the other rooms of the floor.People talking outside the room even the resepsionist downstairs.
Also there was dust on the furniture and the three days that we stayed we had the same sheets which were also torn and never been ironed ! And the aircondition fan was old and dirty .
The rooms where ok with new furnishing thanks God ! Also the personel was very friendly and polite ! The breakfast was ok but nothing special ! What can i say ? This hotel was nothing special !

I truly enjoyed my stay at Hotel Apollo. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had a triple so it was a tight fit. The bathrooms was also clean and relatively spacious. Weirdly the toilet was separate from the sink so you had to go from one room to the next to wash your hands. And yes, they give out super thin bath towels but they work.

The best thing about the stay was the breakfast. Fresh pastries and and a great selection of fruits, yogurts, cereals and drinks. All on the rooftop. I wish I was back there now.

It's close to the colleseum and to Metro stop Cavour and Colleseum. Not much as far as restaurants around but they're not hard to get to.

I'd stay here again for sure. One thing to keep in mind is that the front desk/owners do not speak much English at all so be prepared to break out your phrase book.

Nestled on a fairly quiet street leading up to the Colosseum, the Hotel Apollo is an ideal location for sightseeing in Rome. Its central location makes it easy to walk to most of the major spots, including the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Spanish Steps and more.

It’s a fairly basic no-frills hotel, but it’s comfortable and clean. We were in room 404 which doesn’t face via de Serpenti and was very quiet at night. My only complaint with our room was the bathroom. The shower was so, so teeny. It was nearly impossible to move at all while in it, and I’m a normal-size person! There wasn’t an exhaust fan, either, so it took forever to de-steam after showering. Also, the “towels” were a bit odd, in that they were extremely thin (like a dish towel, literally).

The staff was pleasant. We got a lot of great tips on where to shop, where to go for nightlife and just answers to general questions from Alessandro, who is very helpful and there in the evenings.

Complimentary breakfast was included in our rate and it’s served on a cozy shaded patio on the 5th floor. The selection was good (pastries, breads, meats, cheeses, fruit, cereal, etc.) and the cappuccinos were of course delicious. There’s also a small bar adjacent to reception, but unfortunately it was never open during our stay. It would’ve been nice for a casual drink after a long day of sightseeing. There’s also a computer with internet access in the bar area, and the rates are reasonable (I think 2€ or 3€ for an hour).

The best part, though, was the location. There’s a cute little square just down the block with a few cafes/restaurants that we went to for a drink everyday after sightseeing. There’s also a fantastic restaurant in the square, Gli Angeletti, which we liked so much that we ate there twice during our stay. Definitely give it a try. There are also a few nearby delis and gelato shops in the area are plentiful! It’s also a cheap cab ride to Trastevere, a fun area with loads of restaurants right on the river.

The Hotel Apollo served as a great base for us to explore Rome, and I’d certainly stay there again.

We rented a junior suite at the Hotel Apollo in Rome, and were delighted with the accommodations. We had a private outdoor terrace, as well as a sitting room, and seperate bedroom. Our two teenagers slept in the sitting room, and were quite happy! The location was fantastic, the Colisieum was right down the street!!! In terms of price, the Hotel Apollo was moderate compared to others in the area. I do not know how the average rooms are, but I highly recommend the junior suite if traveling with two children or teenagers.

Stayed for five nights (May 2008) with my husband and college age daughter. Would definitely recommend and return to this small hotel. We stayed in the triple room facing the back. No view but quiet. The room was not huge but roomy enough. The bathroom with shower was nicely appointed and immaculate. Yes, their towels are like dish towels. Very thin, but large and absorbent. They were changed every day. No face towel, though,so bring your own if you use one. The upstairs breakfast room and deck were wonderful, as was the buffet breakfast. The buffet breakfast far surpassed the other three hotels we stayed in Italy on our trip. They served three types of juices, American coffee as well as freshly prepared cappuccino, rolls, warmed pastries, a variety of cheeses and meat spreads, cereals, yogurt, a variety of fruit from cans, and pound cake. Yum! As for location, it was very convenient to Via Nationale a major bus route (one block) and the Cavour Metro stop (walking distance of 2 blocks). And walking distance to the Coliseum/Forum and Trevi Fountain. The staff always made us feel welcome and communication was not a problem. As another reviewer pointed out the immediate neighborhood is quiet and not touristy. On the same block there are several very good small and reasonable restaurants (try the Due Colonne Ristorante/Pizzaria). Around the block on the next parallel street is a small well stocked grocery store. We also asked for a dinner recommendation from the staff and were very pleased with their recommendation. There is no internet access in the rooms; however they have a computer available to guests off the lobby. Also, there is an internet spot (with numerous computers) almost next door. On arrival we took a taxi from the airport. Make sure you agree on the set rate from the airport with the driver. There is a posted sign at the taxi stand. We left for Florence by train and took the metro to the station. Very easy even with rolling luggage. See my other reviews of Hotel Caravaggio, Florence and La Locandiera, Venice.
