“A Decent Stay in Rome”
Reviewed 25 June 2013

The best thing about this hotel is definitely the location. It is close to Colosseum and "Colosseo" metro station (line B) where you can easily access the essential city districts for sightseeing and shopping. Near the hotel there is "Claudia" bus stop where one can get directly to Vatican by bus number 81. The city district Trastevere can be reached by changing bus #81 to tram #8 at Piazza Venezia. One-way taxi trip between the hotel and Trastevere (Ponte Sisto) costs around 10 euros.

Unfortunately, the breakfast was only a cup of coffee and 1 croissant in a corner café next to the hotel. They didn't have any special diet options (e.g. gluten-free) available so I had to start my day with only a single cup of cappuccino. Luckily, there was a grocery store around the corner where I could buy something to fill my stomach with in the mornings.

Be warned that the walls of the hotel building are paper thin. The street noise and noises from the reception (which is right outside the rooms) can easily invade your room. Plus the reception starts receiving phone calls from as early as 9 am. This means you get a wake-up call by the reception's loud phone every morning between 9 and 10 am which can be annoying if you happen to be a late sleeper.

The shower drains in the building seem to be quite clogged which can cause the bathroom to flood and the water to come to the bedroom during showers. To avoid this, do not turn the water flow to maximum when taking a shower.

All in all a decent stay with good location if you can stand the above mentioned annoyances.

A very warm welcome to a very warm Rome from the young proprietors of the accommodation. Our apartment was accessed via the office so felt very secure: always a nagging doubt when there is an unmanned shared front door. The room was very tastefully decorated with a glimpse out on to a sunlit courtyard – access would have been a bonus. Some of the fittings were beginning to show signs of wear and tear – one bedside light had a “do not use” note scrawled below the carbon burn mark on the wall – a faulty switch can happen anywhere and anytime and arriving on Sunday we’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. Only two smallish towels were provided on arrival – we mentioned this and returned to find a copious supply. A small fridge was a godsend in Rome's heat . Location is everything with this apartment. The Collosseum is at the end of the street and quite fun to see the “Gladiators” in full Roman soldier regalia turning out of their apartments to go to work of a morning . Gladiators do not wear Roman Soldier uniforms but let’s not be picky. Breakfast was in a friendly coffee bar on the street corner. A voucher entitled one to a good coffee and two pastries: they do like a sugary bun in the morning in Italy but plain croissants were available even if the locals find a plain croissant slightly “puritan”. Just around that same corner were hospitable outdoor tables – a very informative wine list and decent food: no doubt foodies will have other recommendations but Divinostilia was handy and far outclassed a highly recommended and best forgotten spot on a previous Rome visit. Full marks to the Ministry of Culture for allowing free access to most sites including the Collosseum and Forum to over 65s

My partner had used this accommodation before and recommended I book it. I had mailed ahead as I suspected we might arrive mid evening and am aware that many owners do not live on site. This was not a problem to us, we had a confirming email saying the room would be there for us. However when we arrived it wasn't possible to rouse anyone, either by buzzing the door, phoning the landline or indeed the mobile number given. I was beginning to think that we might have to spend the night sleeping in the foyer when my partner had the idea to try one of the nearby bars and see if anyone knew of the owner. The bar he went into by luck had another number and called the owner. We were expecting a room in the main apartment block as we had seen in the details on Booking.com. The guy who had come to meet us asked for cash and shower us to a basement room in another building which, although very clean and new, was clearly being renovated. I dislike basements and being delivered to an undeground cell at the end of a long passage was only acceptable because it was late and the alternative was to try and find another hotel - it took us long enough to find a room weeks beforehand!
The bathroom had a leak and the flor was covered with water - if the renovations were complete, this might have been checked and rectified. Had we been able to find anyone in the morning, we would have notified them. The room is noisy - for me noise is not generally a problem, I have stayed in rooms in central London where reviews have complained of noise from the underground and not even noticed it myself. Here there were voices til the early hours and comings and goings - you will need earplugs.
Breakfast is somewhere else altogether, we never did discover where, our check in was flustered and late and we realised later that we had no actual note of the breakfast venue - it was gestured with a sweep of the arm, we had assumed it to be next door. Get a map with it marked on, breakfast with views of the Colosseum may prove to be expensive if, like us, you end up having to buy it as an extra!
The locality is convenient for the Metro, Colosseum and Roman ruins. Accommodation is generally a signicant part of your trip. It was disappointing that ours was not what we felt we had booked and did not flow smoothly. I recommend that you establish whether your room will be in the actual apartment block or in the basement with a vent to street level - unless of course you are happy to be put in the basement - it's a nice basement if you don't mind.

Room Tip: Email to establish whether your room is in the main apartment block and try to be as specific as you...

A nice clean hotel. Close to the colosseum. The guys in the hotel were very friendly and very helpful especially when I had to cut short our visit when my husband was taken ill. I can not thank them enough.

the experience of Rome is all about Living the italian history....having an apartment with all the modern comforts but sited in an historic building, literally 100 meters from colosseo is just the perfect match.
the manager is helpfull and will give you all the assistance you need, but carring up the luggage up to room (there is no elevetor, but still, not big dial....)
it will be more like an hotel then a b&b....
enjoy your staying

Within a short walk of many famous sights and with many restaurants and bars on the doorstep, this is an excellent base for a stay in Rome.
During our stay, when we had problems with Ryanair, the owner went out of his way to help us.
The rooms are based in a characterful old building which has recently been refurbished and rooms are contemporary and well equipped (including free air conditioning and wifi).
Very good value for money and very highly recommended.
