An awe-inspiring church that soothes the soul when you enter it. The melodies, the painting, the dome, everything..

Santa Maria in Trastevere is a real jewel. It has some of the finest decorations inside particularly in the front and upper parts and ceilings. Also the atmoshere was more intimate than several other churches in Rome; part of it may be due to the fact that a service was going on, but you were allowed inside if you sat down quietly which we did.To our surprise a very dynamic choir brought some Harlem-type songs, full of rythm and joy. Is Rome slowly adapting to modern times or is it just in this particular chuch? As an added value the Trastevere area is touristic but with a nicer scale and atmosphere than many of the so called more spectacular sites in Rome.

Tranvsetene is so charming and this church is the oldest.plan a morning or afternoon for strolling and savoring the delights..far less crowded and the resturants are the best!

We happened to walk by this church. From the outside it's even not such an impressive one. It appears this might be the first church (in Rome?) dedicated to Maria. Inside, it's really nice and therefore it's for sure worth visiting.

We love mosaics, and this church has some beautiful ones, inside and out. We didn't find much of interest in Trastevere, but it was worth visiting just to see this place. The square outside is also very pleasant.
