This is a superb, intimate art gallery and glimpse inside a beautiful palazzo, right in the middle of Rome. We had visited before pre children, and weren't sure whether our children (now 12 and 9) would enjoy the visit, but both declare it was a highlight of our recent holiday.

The place itself is magical, but it is the quirky, intimate and warm audio tour by Jonathan Doria Pamphilj that makes the visit so special. With a blend of welcome, humour, personal stories and being superbly informative the audio tour means that we all got so much more out of our visit - and our children loved listening to all the information about the paintings, stopping an gazing away whilst Jonathan explained the stories and history of the paintings and the people in them.

A gem.

This is well worth a visit, especially if you are interested in how the other half lived at one time. Beautifully restored and maintained residence of the Pamphillj family, there are beautiful decorative pieces and a wonderful collection of paintings by such artists as Caravaggio, Bernini, Bellini and Raphael among others. Located right on the Corso, in the heart of Rome, this is well worth a visit. The audio guide is exceptional.

Incredible to learn that this collection is in private hands - this made my visit all the more delightful as I could marvel at Caravaggio, Bernini, the Flemish and French paintings and so many other treasures lined from floor to ceiling, away from all the tourists concentrated in the mainstream museums.
The audio guide was highly entertaining - a first hand experience described by the present owner who was brought up in this spectacular environment.
I had followed the advice not to miss this hidden gem and I thoroughly agree that one should find a few hours during a Roman trip to visit this wonderful palace - the Gallery of Mirrors itself is a dreamy experience and flashback in time.

All of the art itself is displayed in an alluringly 'hotchpotch' way. However, this allows you to feel you are discovering the gems forward yourself. There are quite a few important pieces that are worth the admission costs alone. The audio guide is included in the €11.00 admission price. The familial slant taken by the audio guide made the history more personal.

Boys this location location is authentic, perhaps a little bit too much to be considered a museum.
Lightning is inadequate, environments are dusty, smell dirty and are quite worn out, visitors are given an audio aid that is rather amusing but far from descriptive: it seems to me most of the pieces exposed lack references, one is left with a narrative that is mostly focused on the Doria-Pamphllj family history rather than on art; furthermore, the aid is limited to three languages, nice attempt to force the purchase of a catalog in the library (wisely placed before the halls exposing the most interesting (but not THAT interesting) pieces of the collection.
On a personal note: my daughter (10yrs old) was caught taking pictures of the rooms. She was at fault, no doubts on it, fact is: the surveillance guy approached me quite rudely insinuating somewhat of a lack of respectful behaviour from my side. Such an attitude is unprofessional. I can understand these people are confronted with a number of unpleasant situations, for this reason I would expect them to keep a certain distance and hold their comments for themselves. This ended up in quite a discussion and wasted my day. Never again.
