“Good Kosher meat specialties”
Reviewed 19 May 2012

This is a Kosher meat restaurant located in a lively young area around Plaza Barcelona. I would suggest that if you visit this establishment, just go for the meat. Appetizers and middle-eastern type dishes are okay, bu not exceptional. However, the chef's meat specialties are very impressive. We had a sliced steak in balsamic sauce, served with salad, and a steak in a bread crust. Both were very satisfying, juicy, flavorful and fresh. By the way, we didn't really like the famed "Jewish artichoke" (deep fried), but this very well may be a question of personal preference. Note that this restaurant is not particularly cheap: every main meat dish costs about 22 euros, and does not include sides. In summary, if tasty Kosher meat is what you look for, you will find it here.

This restaurant was suggested by the hotel concierge, after we asked for a kosher restaurant. The food was tasty,we ordered burik potato, jewish artichoke, stockfish filet, all really good.Service is too slow, and staff seems not to care too much. The price also a little bit high but it's Rome!

“what a shame”
Reviewed 16 May 2012

This place appears to coast on the reputation of Roman Jewish Ghetto food, but judging by its offerings this reputation is entirely undeserved. The food was served bare: the salad without dressing, no olive oil, vinegar salt or pepper on the side, the fried foods just a glob of fried whatever, without even a lemon. They were without flavour. The salmon was passable, but "torta" was vile, just a mess of undefined fried greens, presumably with anchovies (which I love but could not taste here).

We too were charged for pane without any bread being offered. Some items we ordered were forgotten, which is fine, because they would probably be as bad as the rest. What a shame!

“Something is wrong in this ghetto - avoid”
Reviewed 7 May 2012

We ate here when exploring Rome’s Ghetto/Jewish Quarter based upon reviews from Trip Advisor. We were disappointed from the time we sat down to the time we left with neglect from the staff to substandard food.

To start out we asked for sparkling (frizzante) water and were bought still water which was thrown on the table. We had to chase a staff member to swap this. No bread was provided to the table although we were charged it – we disputed this and were told it was a cover charge although it was itemized on the bill as panne (bread) which I refused to pay.

The meals themselves took an extremely long time to be prepared after ordering – 2 simple pastas. It was long enough to get a staff member to take our order, this was meant to be a quick lunch on the go but it ended up being a slow lunch due to the staff’s inability to work the tables. Considering we were there at the tail end of lunch it wasn’t even busy – I would hate to be there during the peak.

The pasta’s themselves were substandard at best. The pasta with meat sauce was the better of the dishes with large tender pieces of beef in a rich tomato sauce. The sausage and mushroom pasta was lacking flavor and tasted of inferior sausage.
This was our worst meal in Rome and we would not recommend this restaurant. There are countless options nearby – do yourself a favour and try one of these to avoid a similar experience.

“Very nice place place to have a relaxing lunch”
Reviewed 18 April 2012

I stopped for lunch on a Thursday recently, and whilst it was very crowded, I was seated immediately at a table outside which was lovely for watching the passers by. I thought I would have a light lunch, so ordered the Ba'Ghetto special salad. It consisted of tuna, corn, tomatoes, cucumber, olives, hard boiled eggs and hard cheese served on a bed of fresh green leaves. When the dish arrived, it was huge. I loved every mouthful, but could not finish it.
The service was a little slow, but seeing the number of diners there, it was only to be expected. I could genuinely recommend this restaurant for a leisurely meal, a welcome break in your busy sightseeing schedule.
