My girlfriend and I visited this jazz club on the recommendation of the Rome Lonely Planet guide. I regularly see a jazz band in Glasgow, Scotland each Saturday, but this took my breath away.
Winding staircase down to the club.
Members only. €6 to join.
Casual dress allowed.
Conversation during the performances is to be kept to an absolute minimum.
Stage is central (luckily, we had the best seats in the house). There is a great wine list, and a selection of food. Table service is also given.
There are etchings on the walls of jazz performers who have played there through the years.
Various bands play here each night of the week, we saw a three piece band. (Double bass (and sang skat), drummer and guitarist, with a guest on tenor sax.
The guitarist played a solo of Moon River, which took my breath away. Not a sound from the packed audience.
Virtuoso performers, and we could not ask for any more.
The venue on the whole has a classic atmosphere. The jazz bands in Glasgow have a lot to live up to after this.
Not to be missed.
All the best
