“very functional place but should be called Thunderdome”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

you can catch train to the airport or other parts of Italy on the top floor here. On the bottom floor, you find the metro stop Termini. Beware--the metro trains stopping at termini will be solid wall to wall people. We were on that metro stop as early as 6am during the week and still packed. Also, be careful of the many scammers that linger at termini. You can be at the ticket machines inside termini and they will approach you with an offer to help you get your ticket. Do not fall for it. You can enable the machine to english and figure it out. If not, the train company employs folks that sit in a window. Grab a number (deli style) and get them to help. Do not use the ones that approach you. There are also pickpockets that work in teams. You have to be aware of your surroundings, not flashy, and prepared. There are restaurants, bathrooms and newsstands inside. This is a useful place but can be overwhelming.

“Train Station Ease”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

The Termini Station has virtually everything for the traveller. It is easy to find your way around to the track area, there is a 2nd floor food court, a large number of smaller shops on the mezzanine level and even a grocery store on the lower level. The public restrooms are also located on the lower level, beside the grocery store. Cost to use the restrooms is 1.5 euros. If you enter the station from the bus transfer side, the grocery store is to the far left of the station. An escalator/stairs are present just before you step outside, to take you to the lower level.

This train station has a direct connection to the Fiumicino Airport.

The A and B Metro lines connect with this station.

The grocery store has almost everything you might be looking for, including; fresh fruit, baked goods, deli sandwiches and good ole junk food. If you buy fresh fruit, REMEMBER to weigh your items before you leave the produce area and line up at the cash out. You will be sent out of line to weigh your items and no special consideration will be given to advance your position in the line-up. Be mindful of pick-pockets and baggage snatchers.

“Big, Crowded, and Not Friendly”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

We arrived from Milan via train to this station. We found in dirty and the staff not very helpful. Compared to the other station (Tiburtina) from were we departed to Naples, this one needs a lot of enhancements.

“My First Ever Train Station Review”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

Have never reviewed a train station before, but as I happened to notice comments about Termini, thought I’d offer up our experience…

We did have somebody come up to us to offer to help us with the ticket machines, but as I’d read about people being bullied to give money for these services, I said no thank you and she left.

Main Station is clean with a lot of options of places to eat and shop in. Place is also super, super busy with a lot of fast-paced things happening. So yes, beware. Or at least, be alert.

Another day, we had to change subway/metro at Termini Underground from the A to the B line and sure enough, the friend that we were with was pickpocketed. Now I would never wear cargo shorts and keep a wallet in my pocket, but then I’m also not a guy. The metro platform was very crowded and when we got on the train, said guy friend got on before I did. He was followed by two regular-looking college-aged girls, who squished in behind him, then must have decided there really wasn’t enough room in that particular carriage so they exited the train. Or so I thought. Really they just squeezed in super tight to him, pushed him against his back so that his focus was there and then lifted the wallet from his pocket and took off. Easy-peasy.

I truly believe that you don’t have to be scared to use public transport or the main station in Rome. You just have to be a bit vigilant and aware of your surroundings.

“Terravision Bus Transfer”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

I'm writing this to document our experience with the Terravision Bus company that operates transfers between Roma Termini and Fiumicino Airport (FCO). My wife and I used the service during our trip to Italy.

Overall, the service met expectations. You can't beat the price - only EUR$ 4.00 per person, per leg. Upon arriving at FCO Terminal 3, you can't miss the Terravision signs that point to Bus Station #5 at the far-end of the terminal.

When we got to the Terravision bus station outside Terminal 3, the scene was very chaotic. Crowd control is non-existent, and many people were crowding the station attendant trying to get on the bus. You will have to load/unload your bags on the bus yourself, and be prepared to "take the next bus", if the seats are full. If you do have to take the next bus, you will have to offload the bags yourself. We were initially told to "take the next bus", but then the attendant changed his mind and let us on the bus. I had to offload and then reload our bags. But - it was just EUR$ 8.00 for the two of us, so you get what you pay for.

The ride to Termini is about 40 minutes and went just fine, once we were settled in.

The return trip to FCO from Termini was much better, although the bus ran 30 minutes late, and we had to wait in-line outside the station for the bus. Don't forget to go inside the Terravision office and get your voucher scanned by the attendant. They will then give you boarding passes to get on the bus. There is a nice cafe there, so you can wait inside if it's raining.

Our trip back to FCO took about 35 minutes, and went very well.

All-in-all the experience met expecations and we will probably use the service again when at FCO. One word of caution - do everything humanly possible to watch your belongings and bags when in, or in the vicinity of Termini station. The station is crawling with pickpockets and distractors determined to get what they can out of you. Use the buddy system - watch your friends' stuff and have them watch yours, and you'll be OK.
