This little church is home to one of Bernini's most famous sculptures but the church itself is beautifully decorated in a gothic style. It has very soft almost dim lighting and is well worth a visit.

The church is pretty small and has updated Baroque elements added in the 17th century.

It is worth a stop just to see Bernini's famous statue. You will find this to the left of the altar. Teresa has just been stabbed with God's arrow of fire. The angel pulls out the arrow and watches her reaction. Sunlight enters through the alabaster windows above, and Bernini included bronze sunbeams that "shine" on the marble angel holding a golden arrow.

Statue is awesome.

This beautiful little church was the "Third Altar of Science" in Dan Brown's novel and was the main reason for our visit. The statue of "The Ecstasy of St Teresa" (a Belini masterpiece) was impressive although we could not understand why it is considered to be almost pornographic.

This is a big statement, the chapel which he designed in St. Peters is incredible as are a couple of his best works in the Borghese (if you like art, you can't miss the Borghese). However, this arguably (and many agree) could be the pinnacle of his works. It rivals or surpasses the beauty of Michangelo's Pieta. I have been going through museums for almost 50 years, studying art for more than 30 years. Sculpture, in my view, is art at its best. The Ecstasy of St. Teresa is in my view, sculpture at its best. Any doubt, search the piece on the Internet and look at what you see.

We called in this church to see the Ecstasy of St Teresa which is well worth viewing as a beautiful piece. But the church itself is astonishing more like an opera house or theatre.
