We stayed here for a week while seeing the fabulous sights of Rome. There were 5 of us in 2 rooms. Very comfortable suites with lots of room. The location is a bit out of the way but it is within walking distance to lots of tourist sights and places of interest. You will have to pay for Wi-Fi - very disappointing as the teenagers were not happy. Breakfast was great and the staff very helpful.

Palazzo Al Velabro is an apartment that offers space that would cost a fortune in a regular hotel. It is at the base of the Palatine Hill and, our room afforded a fantastic view of the legendary founding place of Rome. We had a terrace that looked out over a beautiful garden (see photo). The apartment was clean and well maintained as was the entire building. They serve a charming breakfast of pastries, fruit, cheese, yogurt, juices and cappuccino or espresso which is included.

My wife thought it was conveniently located while I thought it was slightly off the beaten track, but we did not want to be near the evening noise and crowds of the Spanish Steps or popular bars. We're in our 50s and prefer a nice quiet sleep which Palazzo Al Velabro provided. It is also a very safe area. It was about a 3 mile walk to the Vatican, a very scenic walk - a taxi cost under 10 Euros. Note: In Rome the custom is to tip by rounding up to the next whole Euro.

Other than breakfast there really aren't additional amenities outside the suite which provides a spacious bedroom and kitchenette room with a door between so those who want to stay up later don't disturb the early-to-bedders. The kitchen provides a cooktop, sink, small refrigerator, pots, plates and utensils.

There is someone at the front dest 24/7 and they were all very nice particularly Walter. Their English is not the best, but very accommodating and, we felt, dedicated to making sure we had a good experience. There are also no nearly stores to run out to for a snack, beverage or toiletries so plan ahead.

Elevators seemed like a big problem in many of the places we looked at on Tripadvisor before we chose Palazzo Al Velabro. Both their elevators are fully functional with plenty of room. In-room Wi-Fi is 9 Euros a day.

We strongly recommend this establishment. It offered most of what we could have gotten in a luxury hotel, and more in many ways, at half the price.

Thanks to Tripadvisor for being such a useful service.

Room Tip: We asked for a room with a terrace and it was beautiful. Not sure of the room #, but it overlooked...

After many many visits in Rome where only upmarket hotels were really satisfactory, the Residence Palazzo Al Velabro provides for half their cost at a central location, with very nice views in many rooms, actually suites. You really do not get an army of staff which anyhow you may not need, and the breakfast is average. No restaurant on the premises is probably an advantge: you can explore and find a nice trattoria nearby.

I booked and stayed in 2 rooms in this hotel back in July 2013, for my family. This was our final destination during our 14 day European vacation and though we stayed in quite a few nice hotels the Palazzo al Velabro was by far the Very Best of ALL! Phenomenal Staff, very Spacious, Clean rooms, and the location was Perfect for walking everywhere we wanted to go. If our site seeing destinationit was a bit further out, the hotel staff called us a taxi which the rates were extremely reasonable. We spent 4 nights here and I can't wait for the opportunity to return to Rome, as I will DEFINITELY stay at the Palazzo al Velabro!!

Room Tip: We had 2 rooms on either side of the Hotel and they were both quiet and the A/C was Excellent.

We stayed here for a week in October and it was great...not in the busy and bustling area for night life in Rome, but some good restaurants reasonably near by and a decent breakfast option in the hotel. If you are interested in Roman ruins, the Forum is just a block away and the Colliseum and Circus Maximus are just a few more blocks away. The front desk staff are courteous, friendly and helpful and our room, which as a one bedroom apartment (with small kitchen and decent size living room/entry), was quite comfortable. No complaints at all!

Perfectly situated in a great part of Rome. Beautiful walks at night to the forum and the up to Capitoline Hill. Easy walk across the Tiber to Trastavere too. Great rooms and really helpful and friendly staff. We'd stay there again for sure.
