Our first trip to Rome and after a lot of research we landed on River Palace hotel as the standard and reviews were miles better than most other hotels.
A week before arriving, we were asked to move to the sister hotel River Chateau.
Looking back, this was no bother at all. In fact, the stay was perfect right from the beginning.

The River Hotel company sent a private driver who picked us up in a new Mercedes. They upgraded our first night to a Deluxe room and the remaining nights to Superior. They also transferred our luggage from River Chateau to River Palace, so we could roam around on our own.

The service at this hotel was simply excellent - by far the best service I have ever experienced at any hotel. Everyone were really friendly and helpful with any request - small or big.

Location is everything you can ask for. It is perfectly situated within walking distance from Spanish steps, Trevi fountain, Via del Corso, restaurants, shops, etc. You can also walk to Colosseum (although we took a bus). We did walk from the Vatican to the hotel though.

All in all: Highly recommended. Make sure you book at one of the River hotels during your next visit!

Room Tip: Got upgraded to superior room and deluxe room. The superior room had a fairly small bathroom, but wa...

We really enjoyed our stay at the River Palace Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the staff of the hotel was excellent. Our luggage was lost by the airline and the hotel called two to three times daily checking on the status with the airline and airport. The staff also was very helpful in setting reservations for some things as well as just giving us advice on where to go in the city. They really want to ensure that you have a great stay and are very friendly. This hotel is centrally located in the heart of Rome so you are within walking distance of many of the sites. While our room was small, it was nicely done and very clean. The hotel offers a nightly happy hour with free appetizers and half price drinks, as well as a large breakfast buffet. We will stay at this hotel again when we return to Rome.

We enjoyed our stay at the River Palace hotel very much. The staff was nice and welcoming. Our room was nice and clean. The morning buffet was very good and the bar was a cozy place to start out before going out for dinner. All of Romes main attractions where within walking distance.

We had deluxe rooms and they were very comfortable. The staff were very helpful and informative. There were half price drinks between 6 pm and 10 pm every night making them cheaper than surrounding bars/cafes. An added bonus was the free canopies! The hotel is close to the metro and within easy walking distance of all attractions. There was plenty of choice at breakfast which could be had up until 10.30 am. The only drawback we found was that you had to use two lifts, with a walk in between, if your room was above the first floor but this was a minor inconvenience not a problem. We would recommend this hotel and, if we return to Rome, we would be happy to stay in this hotel again.

We have just returned from our stay at the River Palace which lived up to all the previous reviews. We arrived late evening and were instructed to get a drink in the bar as it was happy hour.... Which lasts for four hours, so we did, went back half an hour later to reception to be told bags were in the room and we could go up when ready. Lovely room with a view on Main Street which was remarkably quiet and plenty big enough for our needs.
Breakfast next day was plenty full and yummie, pastries, fruit, bacon and eggs, just the thing to set you up for a busy day in rome. In the evening if you didn't feel up to going out for dinner the hotel put on an array of goodies in the bar which you could enjoy with a half price vino, lovely.
For sightseeing you couldn't find a better hotel, we walked everywhere, Vatican,Trevi and the forum that takes the worry of getting the metro.
A big thank you to all the wonderfull staff for making our time in rome so special.

Room Tip: upgrade to a better room. We had602

This is a good hotel, somewhat understated from the outside, in fact you good easily walk past it without realising it. But on the inside it is comfortable with nice decour in a Rome wood and marble theme. Our room, in the middle price rang was very comfortable king size bed, fridge, all you could require except tea making equipment (the need to make tea is probably a English thing), our bathroom had shower and bidet, but some rooms have a bath. Room made up every day with cleam towels. Morning breakfast is superb, buffet style with just about every taste taken care of - eggs are scrambled, bacon, mushrooms, tasty spricey sausages. This is just the english part of what is on offer - also fruit, cold meats, cereal, toast/ marmalade and sparking white wine!! This is not the end of the list.
No evening meals at the hotel, but a bar with free snacks and larger ones on order.
There is no shortage of places to eat in the area. Hotel 80 yards from metro and 110 yards from P de Popolo.
This hotel is good for couples/friends from my experience.
I would use this hotel again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Rooms facing inner courtyard are quieter, those facing the street can be a little noisey.

Booked after reading hundreds of reviews as feel hotel is an important factor!

We weren't disappointed at all.. Perfect location, two minutes stroll to Piazza del Popolo and then three straight roads directing you to the main attractions in Rome.. Making it hard to get lost and easy to find your way back to the hotel.

The nearby park was an added bonus and we enjoyed two lovely mornings here, one of which included cycling around in the sun.

Hotel is very clean, comfortable and friendly. Staff are all very helpful and more than accommodating.

Two highlights:
Breakfast... So much choice.. Coffee, pastries, cereal, meats, fruit, yogurt.. All fresh and set you up for a day exploring!
Happy hour! 6-10.. Half price drinks and free bar snacks which have the potential to turn into your dinner! Can highly recommend the piña colada!

Rooms are small as people have described but we didn't find this in any way an issue, more than big enough for sleeping and getting ready. Bathroom was also small but adequate although the shower is a bit tiny!

Loved our stay here, couldn't have asked for a better hotel or location - perfect.

One last recommendation is a private driver we found on tripadvisor; Alessandro and his Mercedes who picked us up at he airport and took us to the hotel showing us some sights along the way all for 60EUR. +39 328 6088148.. Highly recommended! :)
