“We will be back!”
Reviewed 19 January 2014

Having just read the review from JBruno89 on this hotel we would like to give an alternative view as it appears we were probably at the hotel at the same time.
We would agree that the hotel rooms are on the small side but this is typical for similar European hotels and would point out in comparison to the standard size of New York hotel rooms they could be considered of a generous size. As we had booked through Booking.com we were not expecting the best room and were put in a room at the front of the hotel which as has been mentioned does suffer from the noise of the trams, however, when we asked about a move the next morning the hotel staff were charming allocating a different room and asking us to leave our packed bags in our room so they could be transferred when the room was ready allowing us to go out sightseeing as planned.
The breakfast was one of the best continental breakfasts that we have seen provided in a hotel of this type and whilst the cold meats were not refrigerated they were regularly replenished as everyone seemed to be enjoying them so they were definitely not left out for 4 hours at a time.
We also enjoyed the happy hours (6.00 to 10 pm) in the bar where drinks were half price and accompanied by some tasty nibbles all served by very cheerful bar staff. The location of this hotel is great for visitors like us who enjoy exploring a city on foot, with all the key sites within walking distance.
In short we were delighted with this hotel and would not hesitate to return.

Highly recommend it, great location, great staff, clean, overall A+!!

The driver they set up for us was great, picked us up at the airport in a very nice Mercedes, and gave us a free tour of Rome on the way to the hotel, great service, very knowledgeable, great fixed rates, so we booked him for a few tours of the city and surrounding towns as well, Alessandro Marconi is your guy if this is something you're looking for, I'msure he won't mind if I share his email romalimostar@gmail.com

I brought my girlfriend in Rome as a Christmas present. After a bad experience previous in Rome I thought I give it a go one more chance.
I think is worth it because from the first moment we walked in the hotel we were very surprised with the decor and the originality of the hotel. The service is exceptional and the room beautiful decor and very clean.
We loved that in late afternoon they come and tidy the room and leave a note with the weather forecast for the next day. How sweet is that. The breakfast was good too, with lots of choices and warm food too.
Just not to forget that the bar inside the hotel was 50% off ( happy hr) until 10pm.
I think is worth of money and defiantly recommend to anybody.

Myself and my boyfriend just returned from a long weekend at River Palace Hotel. (What a drama!)

We were very impressed with the decor, cleanliness and friendliness of the hotel. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and allowed to leave our luggage for the morning while our room was readied. Our check in was simple, pleasant and earlier than expected.

The hotel is in a great location, right next to the metro station which is a very speedy way of getting around Rome. However, we walked most of the weekend, as it is only around a 20 minute walk to get to the main attractions such as the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the main street. (Via Del Corso).

Breakfast is great choice, from hot english breakfast, to sweet pastries, continental and even prosecco! Cannot complain!

The staff were exceptionally helpful as my boyfriends passport was 'lost' (we think stolen on the metro - be aware!) on the way to the airport. We returned the the hotel and they helped us ring the Embassy, airport and Police.

The only downside of the hotel, as all say, is the size of the rooms being very tiny. However, like everyone else, we were only there to sight-see and sleep and night! No problems at all.

Would highly recommend.

I decided to book this hotel for my wife's forty birthday after reading many reviews and was not disappointed! The hotel is in an excellent location being next to metro, bus and train stops. Also within walking distance of the trevi fountain and Spanish steps, which makes it peaceful enough to retreat from the hustle of rome but close enough to enjoy it! From the outside the hotel is unassuming but inside it is elegant and classical being furnished in marble and contemporary roman ornaments. The service was attentive but not too much. We booked a queen class room which was quite small but cosy, spotless and well furnished with air conditioning . We were offered a larger room for a fee but all the time we would spend in it we settled for the room we booked. The hotel has the added bonus of free wifi with computer stations to print of boarding passes or whatever. Especially usefull if flying with Ryanair . The breakfast is excellent with plenty of choice, all fresh and plenty, having prosecco every morning was a nice touch and freshly ordered cappuccino . Also the chocolate muffins are to die for. After a hard day sightseeing there is a beautiful bar area which does amazing cocktails and all drinks for half price between 6 and 10 which also does complimentary sandwiches and snacks.

Wonderful hotel, agree with all positive reviews. Everything is within easy walking distance. Hotel rooms are typically italian and this I love. Happy hour is a wonderful treat, all the snacks available is a nice touch. Breakfast is plentiful with cheeses, hams, cakes, pastries, cooked eggs and bacon, what more could you ask for.
I will be coming back to this hotel in the near future I hope.
Only negative is the rooms at the front of hotel may have a little noise when the trains run from 5ish every morning, would put up with this because the hotel position and service is fantastic.

River Palace Hotel is a wonderful small hotel just north of the old City walls and close to a Metro stop. The rooms are small (it is Europe and to be expected) but clean and nicely decorated. The staff is very helpful whether it be dinner recommendations and reservations or directions. The breakfast is HUGE by both European and American standards. A large selection of hot dishes, meats, cheeses, pastries, etc. Even bubbly (got to love Rome). And don't miss happy hour in the lounge, with complimentary snacks and value priced drinks. Travelers gathered there each nite to compare their days. The hotel is located at Piazza del Popolo, a beautiful piazza with fountains and three churches (including Basilica of Santa Maria del Popolo with its Chigi Chapel in Dan Brown's Angels and Demons). Easy walking distance to the Forum, Colosseum and other sites thru small, busy streets lined with interesting shops.

Room Tip: Ask for a room other than the first floor (Rooms numbered in the 100s) as breakfast goers must walk...
