“Brilliant Location & Hotel”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

I researched long and hard for a good 4* Hotel for my 23yr old daughter and I to stay at for our first Mother & Daughter holiday away-I found it here!
We weren't in any way disappointed.
We got a taxi from the airport to cut out the faff and the transfer was seamless /cost c 45euros. Money well spent.
Our room whilst small (compared to USA) was ideal for a 3 night City Break and in keeping with London. Very clean and excellent service. Very good and welcome (half price cocktails and drinks and canapes) refreshments on our return at the end of busy day out.
Breakfast was plantiful and varied/hot and cold-and ask for a Take Out Cappacino if you want one.The location is c 4 mins to Metro station which makes getting to Vatican easier, 10 mins walk to Spanish Steps for Walking tours (Free/pay a tip), 50 minutes walk to The Forums and Colosseum.
When you visit this one, buy your ticket for both at entrance to Forum and you head straight past long queues at Colosseum. Well worth it!

Room Tip: Ask for high quiet floor

Tucked away 2 blocks north of Piazza Pompolo, this hidden gem is worth the stay. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Small rooms with comfy beds, marble tiled cozy baths, overall very typical of Rome. If you need more room, upgrade to a Deluxe room. The breakfast was the best we had in Italy, and the happy hour is probably the most redeeming feature. $3 euro beer and wine with small sandwiches and snacks from 6-10pm. Many guests stop in before heading out for the night. Odd floor plan with 2 elevators and 2 buildings can make for some confusion, but once you get it down, it works. Minor issues with broken blow dryers, air conditioning that didn't work, but the staff will quickly resolve any issue and ensure you're happy. Most cabs are not familiar with the hotel, so know your street name.

Room Tip: ask for a room near the elevator, or upgrade to a deluxe room if you need space.

Location; super, approx 10 minute walk to Trevi, Spanish steps, Vatican maybe 15 mins.
Hotel; Beautiful and clean, very ornate , slippers robes etc luxurious.
Breakfast just perfect!!!!!!
Staff; keeping it simple, OUTSTANDING, well done folks!
Downsides?; I do hate to sound like a Brit abroad, but no Tea/Coffee facility in the room.

Would I stay again?....YES!

Spent two night here the weekend just gone and from the time of arriving to the moment we left we had such an amazing stay. The staff were outstanding and so friendly, nothing was to much trouble for them. The bar was a great place to relax after a day of walking the city and seeing the sights. Breakfast was more than ample and had a great selection. We have stayed in a lot of hotels and this one I will go back to without a second thought. Best nights sleep in a hotel for a long time.

Hotel River Palace is the best starting place to discover Rome. The hospitality, accommodation, and helpfulness of the staff can be rated as excellent from top to bottom. The location is very convenient to all the must-see places in Rome. Just a couple of blocks from Piazza di Puopolo and Via Del Corso, this hotel makes everything easily accessible on foot or by metro. Everything can be walked from the hotel within 30 minutes or less including the Vatican or perhaps even quicker by metro. It is safe, very clean, very comfortable, and very quiet because it is away from the maddening crowd but close enough, We found the accommodations for two very reasonable and comfortable albeit small. The hotel offers limousine transport from and to FCO which I recommend as well. The entire staff from front desk to room service to dining room service is very professional. I would recommend this hotel definitely if the price is right for you. You will not be disappointed. A great plus is their breakfast buffet which was included in the price of our stay.

Room Tip: Stay at the top floors and away from the street although the traffic in from of the hotel is very li...

We stayed in the River Palace four nights in early May 2014. Rome was incredibly busy at this time, supposedly because of pilgrims in the city for the canonisation of two Popes and it was consequently really the wrong time to visit the city. Unhappy happen stance for us!!. We came off a Transatlantic cruise, took the train to Termini and a taxi to Via Flaminia 33 where the River Palace Hotel is located. This situation is a stone's throw from Piazza del Popolo and the Corso and consequently an excellent base to visit all the historic sites in the old city. We were welcomed and accommodated quickly ahead of the normal time a room would be available, which was appreciated.

Our initial impressions confirmed what we saw on the web site, River Palace is a smallish high end hotel with luxury finishes throughout and a most professional staff. The public areas around the bar are very attractive and welcoming and the long happy hour from 6 to 10 pm provides beverages at remarkable prices for Rome along with some excellent complimentary nibbles (Ciao, Harold!!).

What may not be so obvious from the web site is how tiny the standard rooms are (and the next level up isn't much bigger). At 16 sq m the room provides an area around the double bed barely big enough to walk around and if there are two of you you'll need to schedule your movements!! The bathroom is commensurately tight, definitely room for only one person at a time and woe betide you if you drop the soap in the shower...The lift is also a shoe box and multiple trips may be required to get two people and their bags to their room. But the bellman will deal with this issue for you if you ask.

Realistically the only place to sit in the room, for example to watch television, is on the bed. Of course many will say 'I only need the room to sleep' and that may suit many, but not all. On the plus side, the room air conditioning works perhaps too well and the housekeeping is efficient and unobtrusive. There is copious hot (and really cold) water in the bathroom. Incidentally, we drank the tap water and lived to tell tell the tale (hotels always advise one not to drink the water :-( ) Front of house rooms have Via Flaminia street views, the rear rather depressing low rent back yards.

Did we like it? Well, yes. Would we recommend it? Yes, but think hard about the space issue as it would affect you personally. I get claustrophobic so it didn't really suit me. Would I stay there again? I'd probably elect to stay out of town next time, get more space for the money and put up with the train commuting to the city.

One final point. We stayed at the hotel on a prepaid voucher from Otel.com that said unequivocally ' all taxes and charges inclusive.' When we left they hit us up for the 'Rome Tourist Tax' which 'isn't in the room rate', quote unquote. Left a sour taste.....

Room Tip: Look for minimum >20 sq m even if you have to pay more....

This is a lovely clean, relaxing hotel near major sights in Rome, with very helpful staff, giving us maps and recommending restaurants and which website to use for booking sight-seeing trips - especial thanks to Georgio on the reception desk. Yes, the room is small but as we had only one large suitcase between two of us we didn't need any more space. The bathroom worked well, and the bar was nice. Breakfast very good with lots of choice and Sky TV if you wanted to watch the news, plus a quieter adjoining room if you didn't. The hotel is peaceful after a hard day's sight-seeing and the air conditioning worked well. I would strongly recommend this hotel for its proximity to the beautiful Piazza del Popolo which is particularly beautiful in the evening.
