“Real Rome”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

Just a few stops on the Metro from Central Rome, this is a lovely, plain, unpretentious hotel. If you want real Rome with its graffiti streets, chaotic parking, little cafés and bars - and dirt and grime as well, this is a great place to stay.

Top marks for helpful staff, practical breakfast and acceptable room all at a good price.

Room Tip: The Restaurant next door is exceptional

Four of us stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on 8th May-11th May. It is only a small place but it was very clean, the staff were very helpful and it was in a good position although the area is a bit rundown. The breakfast was lovely, everything fresh and the usual continental fare and the little breakfast room was very nice. There is a lift at the hotel and it was needed as there were a lot of stairs. The rooms were adequate for our needs with 2 very comfortable single beds and clean sheets. The shower was good, plenty of hot water all the time. They supply 2 sachets of body wash/ hair shampoo and 2 bars of soap. We had a small balcony and it had room to sit on. The nearest Metro is about 4 minutes walk away and it is the Numidio Quadratto. It takes about 20 minutes to get to the Termini in the centre of Rome. BIG BEWARE!!!. Pickpockets are everywhere in the Metro and a lot of them are only young girls or women with small children so don't be fooled by them. You can pick them out if you look carefully, you can see them studying everyone who walks by and looking at pockets and bags. Put NOTHING in your back pockets and keep your bags clutched tightly to you at all times. I am afraid they spoilt our experience somewhat. When you get to Numidio Quatratto subway look over the road to a bar on the corner called Palestra, it is not a posh bar but when you buy a drink they ply you with loads of food all for nothing, they were lovely, especially Alex. Also, next door to the hotel is a lovely restaurant but you will need to book as it is very popular. We got the hotel to pre-book us a taxi and it cost 35 euros there and 40 euros back as it was a Sunday. Get a Roma ticket if you are going to use the Metro, they were very good value. The hop on hop off open top bus is a great way to see Rome, we used the Green Line one and the ticket lasts all day and you can get on and off where you like.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies are a must in the heat.

Good clean basic hotel, comfy bed, good breakfast. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and speak very good English. Location is excellent, very near to the metro and as others have said, about 15 mins then into the centre of Rome, and metro trains run about every 4 minutes.

Our taxi from the airport to the hotel was €55 and the return journey in a taxi booked for us by the hotel reception was €45.

We bought a Roma pass on arrival at the airport and this gave us free travel on trains and buses (except airport transport) and free entry into two of the monuments/museums. Also discounts on many others, including one of the hop on hop off tour bus companies. I would recommend this as it made life easy, not having to buy metro tickets etc. It also enables you to jump the queue at the Coliseum.

I would definitely stay at the City Guest House again if I am lucky enough to return to Rome.

This hotel is only a few minutes walk from the Metro line A station at Numidio Quadrato. The room was basic but perfectly functional as a base to explore Rome, and was a great price. Breakfast was good, the typical continental style, and consisted of a croissant, choice of cereal (cornflakes or muesli), tinned fruits, biscotti, hams, cheese, toast, hardboiled eggs, Melba toasts, yoghurts (natural or strawberry) with honey, marmalade or chocolate spread (sadly not Nutella!). Juices and hot drinks from the machine. The staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful. The bed was very comfortable too! I would certainly stay here again because if offers such great value in an expensive city and the centre is so easy to get too.

I have not read all the reviews but the 3 that I can see are pretty much a carbon copy of what I think too!
We got this deal on Lastminute so I am not too sure what the usual rate is but it certainly suited our budget.
The location was great. A short walk to Numidio Quadrto (3-4mins) and from there a 15-20 mins ride into the centre.
Our room was clean and comfortable.
The breakfast was simple continental style all you need in Rome as you know you're going to have a large lunch somewhere and possibly dinner.
The staff were great! Always friendly and ready to offer good advice!! Thanks girls!!
I can fully reccommend this place for a great, cheap stay in Roma!

We stayed in this hotel for five nights. We rented a triple room. Hotel City Guest House left a very positive impression. We liked everything: room, breakfast, location, atmosphere of the hotel.
Special thanks I would like to express to the staff of the hotel. This are very sociable, friendly girls that will help you deal with any questions. They are well, speak English, and one staff speak excellent Russian language.
We were very pleased with the attention that was given to us by the hotel. After reservation the hotel sent personally confirm the reservation and gave comprehensive information about ordering a transfer from the airport to the hotel and offered to arrange restaurant reservations for us. We have booked transfer from airport Leonardo Da Vinci (Fiumicino) airport to the hotel City Guest House. The cost of transfer amounted to EUR 45.
The hotel is located in a six-story building in a residential area of Rome. Our room was on the fifth floor. The room is very simple, but nice. The room has three single beds, standard furniture set and TV, balcony, tiled floor. Bathroom and toilet are standard disruption of water was not, claims harvesting were not.
Inside the hotel, everything is very simple, but clean and comfortable, in fact, what else is required of the traveler who had come to see the sights of the Eternal city.
Breakfast, very good by the standards of Italy. I can say with confidence that it was the best breakfast that we had during our trip to Italy. The breakfasts served insanely delicious croissants and pastries, sausage, cheese, canned fruit, boiled eggs, cereals, jams, jam, chocolate spread. There are no problems neither with tea and coffee. Hall where you can have breakfast, is located on the roof of the building, under a canopy, and very well decorated.
Wireless Internet is available free of charge for hotel guests and there is a Internet point on the ground floor. As well, guests can use the free safety deposit box.
The hotel is located far from the center of the city. But this is not a problem. Metro station is located in walking distance. To the nearest metro stop Numidio Quadrato 3-5 minutes of walk. And stop in Rome's Metro, very short. Thus, until the centre is easily reached within 10-15 minutes (depending on destination). In addition, near the specified Metro stop is a large supermarket, and several small eateries. We really liked the small eateries on the intersection of Via Degli Opimiani and Via Tuscolana (are on opposite sides of this intersection), which can very inexpensive and tasty meal.
Another advantage of the location of the hotel is the fact that the area where it is not noisy. At night the hotel's door is closed, so guests will receive keys from the front door. And after a long walk through the city here you can relax and sleep.
With certainty I can say that I will come in this hotel again.

Hotel well located, close to metro and close to bars and ice cream shops. Amazing breakfast. Recommend the hotel and would return to me staying again. I recommend. Just as improvements, I suggest that the attendants have a little more consideration with tourists, because sometimes we had several questions but the receptionist just ended the conversation and back to the computer.

Hotel bem localizado, próximo ao metrô e próximo a bares e sorveterias. Café da manhã fantástico. Recomendo o hotel e voltaria a me hospedar novamente. Recomendo. Apenas como melhoria sugiro que as atendentes tenham um pouco mais de consideração com os turistas, pois as vezes tinhamos varias duvidas mas a recepcionista apenas terminava a conversa e voltava ao computador.
