We were relocated into the Residenza Paolo VI Hotel and were very glad from the minute we arrived. Originally, we booked into the Palazzo Cardinal Cesi right on Via della Conciliazione, the straight avenue that leads straight into St. Peter’s Square and that faces St. Peter’s Basilica. The Residenza Paolo VI Hotel is even closer to the Vatican since the front door faces the far left-end of St. Peter’s Square Colonnade. The hotel is on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors with a terrace bar and restaurant that looks over the top of the colonnade straight at the dome and famous balcony where the pope delivers his "urbi et orbi" blessing. The breakfast room is on the 5th floor, offering very full breakfast in an elegant room well suited for individual guests, couples, and families alike. The 35 rooms are basic and very comfortable with well-appointed bathrooms. The only shortcoming is that there is no lobby to relax together, so your room is your easy alternative. We did visit the Palazzo Cardinal Cesi and, while it has a gracious private garden courtyard entrance with a small seating area that is considered the lobby, we plan to return to the Residenza Paolo VI Hotel on our next visits.
