“Great customer service”
Reviewed 13 September 2013 via mobile

One of the best hotels in Rome at a very reasonable price. Customer service is over the top. When we first arrived the receptionist took time to explain how to get around the city using public transport. They have excellent rooms. Also it is located conveniently near the metro.

Highly recommended !!!

We have just returned from a four night trip to Rome, staying at the Hotel Aurelius. We had two rooms between us (one for my 80 year old father) and both were very clean and comfortable. Others have said the rooms are small but we found them to be prefectly adequate and quite a lot bigger than the room we had in a Venice hotel earlier in the year. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the breakfast choice is one of the best we have ever experienced. As other reviewers have said, the hotel is located just round the corner from the Cornelia Metro station so travel into the centre of Rome is quick and easy - when you arrive, just make a note to take the left hand set of escalators at the ticket booth and the right exit (Via Aurelia) at the top. This was our first visit to Rome but unlikely to be the last and I would certainly stay here again.

I will be writing a seperate review for Gustosando, a nearby restaurant recommended by one of the Reception staff. We ate there twice - the food was good, the service excellent and our meals were half the price of the meals we ate in the centre of Rome.

Rooms comfortable, clean and finished to a high standard. Nice to have facilities including Jacuzzi and sauna. Comprehensive breakfast including warm dishes - which we found unusual for Italy. Excellent friendly service - nothing was too much trouble. Location is not in the centre of Rome, however it only takes 2 minutes to the metro/subway, which whisks you to the very centre e.g. Spanish Steps in only 15 minutes. Considering how expensive hotels are in Rome, this little gem represents very good value for money and I will certainly think about staying again.

Aurelius is a gem! Wonderfully priced and terrifically located, it's a fantastic boutique hotel just outside the centre of Rome with quick access to the Cornelia Metro Station (a wonderful jumping off point to start your exploration of the city). We stayed for 3 nights this month and were very impressed with the service. The staff was simply excellent! The rooms are a bit small but were extremely functional and the bathroom was spotless and updated nicely. The staff communicated in English very well which was helpful, gave us a map that we utilized throughout our time in the city, and arranged early morning airport transportation for us on our day of departure. Breakfast, included in the room fee, was more than just your typical continental breakfast and included hot items as well as pastries, fruit, and fresh mozzarella cheese--just to name a few. There is a small jacuzzi, sauna, and steam shower in the wellness centre near the rear of the facility and it was nice to unwind here after a long day of endless walking! Wifi was fast and free, if you wanted to utilize it.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a peaceful, well-priced, and charming accommodation just slightly outside of the city centre. You won't be sorry!

Just one final comment: The hotel's personal airport transportation service is expensive, around 50 euros. We found a sign for an airport shuttle service in town that charged 31 euros for 2 people (25 euros for the first person and 6 euros for each additional passenger). You may want to opt for this instead if you're trying to save money. Especially if you're earning in dollars, it really ends up saving you quite a bit of cash!

Aurelius is nice and a very clean air conditioned hotel close to cornelia metro station. Staff is friendly and very helpful. The only downside to the hotel is the size of the room - it is small. But in Rome you will be so busy sightseeing that you'll set off early and come back late at night exhausted. All rooms had Wifi, strong shower, tea and coffee facilities, minibar etc. Breakfast was good - tea, coffee, juices, yoghurt, cereals, fruits, differenttypes of bread, variety of cakes, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, mozzarella balls, other meat stuff etc. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby but trust me you WILL set off early and come back late at night.

From Airport:
---------------
Take Leonardo express to Termini (14 Euros). I strongly advise you to take Roma Pass if you intend to visit Colosseum, Forum, Palatine, Ostia Antica etc. Note that Roma Pass is not valid on Leonardo Express. All other metro and buses are covered.

From Termini
----------------
Take Red line towards Battistini and get off at Cornelia. Now it depends which exit you take or it becomes difficult to find the hotel. Remember "Mcdonalds". Ask anyone where Mcdonalds is and you are very close to Hotel Aurelius. Take a right at Mcdonalds and Aurelius is 2-3 minutes from there.

Note that metro lines close around 11. Be sure to get the metro back or it becomes tricky to get back to the hotel from Central Roma after metro stations close.

I'm sure you would want to visit Vatican One of the basic mistakes people make is go early at 8 and queue up to go to Vatican Museum/St Peter's Basilica. All tour guides and their army of followers aim for morning tours. Even Hotel Aurelius advised us to go early. Do not do that. Go after 1-2PM, shoo all the tour guides and walk straight towards St Peters Basilica or Vatican Museum (depends which one you want to visit first). Cover yourself or you won't be allowed in. No bare shoulders or shorts.

Another tip is to visit Trastevere area full of beautiful small alleys, shops and restaurants (Reach there from Circo Massimo metro stop). You can take the steps down to the river and there are more eating points - some very trendy with stylish hookah bars.

Ostia Antica is another gem and Villad'este is beautiful. Do it if you have covered all major attractions in Rome.

We found this small "Roma decor" hotel very professional in its services but friendly in their delivery of same. Very clean with an excellent breakfast. Great value for money in Rome. Very close to the metro and bus for easy transportation around the city. Staff were very helpful and spoke very good English, Highly recommended.

This hotel is incredibly well priced compared to others in Rome and a great base for sight seeing.

It based slightly out of the centre of Rome but this is a positive as its a nice quiet area with excellent transport links. There is a train stop minutes from the door which connects you to the Vatican in around 5 minutes and proceeds along to all of the main tourist hot spots within 20/30 mins, its also very cheap and easy to use. The train runs late and we never waited longer than 5 minutes for each one.

The hotel is not quite as grand as it appears on the website but it is clean and well maintained. The staff are lovely and very keen to help, providing maps and insider advice, they really made all of the difference and went the extra mile to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.

The room was a good size, well furnished and very clean, the beds were also very comfortable. The view was on to a disused building but this didn't matter to us at all and we were not often there!

There is a sauna and jacuzzi on site but we didn't have time to use the facilities, it appeared to work on a booking system and you were able to have personal use which might have been lovely.

All in all, highly recommend!!

Dear Guest,

thank you for the respect and confidence towards our Hotel Aureliu and shared with all members of Tripadvisor.

We know that every day we have to give our best but we also know, as you write in your review, we offer a standard and a service that, at hotels in the city center, would be quoted much more.

Thank you very much.
