I've stayed at this place 6 times, and it has been great each time. The receptionists are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean. Don't expect a4 star hotel when you book here, but for its price, this is a very good place to stay (both hotel and hostel). I would recommend to stay at the hotel though because of the elevator and the bathroom in the room.
The surroundings are quiet most of the time and it's not far situated from a metro station which is very handy.

Room Tip: If you can, choose a room far from the door as it's loud when it closes.

book.com strecteched theire imagination when they described this as a hotel. It was a room in an apartment block and the breakfast well that was a tray in the room. I know we didn't pay a lot but did expect a little more than then equavalient to a dated to a travel lodge. It was also not in a very nice part of the city and this made walking back to the room very uncormfortable at nights when it was dark with large groups hanging around the streets.
The a room walls were vert thin and you could hear other peoples conversations and althought the basic cleanliness in the bedroom appeared fine the bathroom could have done with a good deep clena the message in the shower room door of clean me in the grime from the previous occupant said it all.

We stayed here for just one night but it was awful!
The hostel is not near the center of anything, not even the train station. I know in the map it looks close but you have to walk a lot!
The neighborhood was not very nice, just a bunch of asian cloth stores, not a lot of restaurants. Then there was the hostel itself, which is basically an old apartment in an old building, you have to climb 4 floors, very inconvenient.
The manager was not very helpful and he just told us where the room was, which was a tiny room with 6 beds and a tiny window, plus a weird guy in one of the beds. We went out and came back at night and the weird guy was basically in the same position, he looked like he just stayed there the whole day, very weird and it felt very unsafe!
the 2 bathrooms were OK.
Just don't stay here, avoid specially if you are a girl!

The hostel is almost in the city center, so it was really comfortable to get to it in every time of the day. Relation Quality vs Price is good. The most I liked the receptionist, he showed all sightseenings on the map, suggest how to get to them.
It is good place for student or persons who would like to spent a small amount of money and live in a good location.

I dont even know where to start with this hostel. First of all the stairs.. its like five floors worth the stairs, so if you have any kind of problem or heavy luggage, avoid it. Our room was kind a nice, but that was it. The "reception" was this guy's room/kitchen, in which he kept playing videogame 24/7. And the bathroom was the worse, always filthy, tons of hair...argh!!! And yet I didn't feel safe at all in there, once for the neghborhood, wich is pretty much the poorest area of Rome, twice for the guests themselves, wich for the five days we stayed there were exclusively male ( I was the only girl!!!). Hated it!!!

Stayed here with my girlfriend during September for 5 nights, although the place was close to Termini and was not too expensive I would not stay there again.

We had to pay in Cash, which when you are on a budget is not good, as we were planning on paying for all our hotels on our credit card.

The room looked quite nice, and it had an ensuite, but the bed itself was just two singles pushed togther (I am aware that this is a common occurance in mainland Europe!). The bed itself was not the problem, the fact that every morning I would wake up with bites all over me was. At first I just ignored it, but it got worse and worse until we were sleeping on our towels.

The owners of the hotel did seem very friendly and the breakfast was very basic but okay to get you going in the morning.

Rome is amazing and when I stay again, I will either pay the little extra for a better hotel or I will stay just outside of Rome as I found the Metro very easy to use.

Hope this helps!

There are two separate floors for the hostel portion and the hotel portion of Hostel Starlight. This review is only for the hostel.

The location is close to the termini, and while it is convenient, the neighborhood is rundown and has a population of homeless people loitering about near the station.

The building is old, complete with rickety elevator. Dorm rooms were basic and not the cleanest, with up to 12 people per room. Bathrooms were dirty. I was honestly worried about getting bed bugs while I spent the night here.

Breakfast is laughable. You have to produce a ticket to get your portion of packaged roll, pat of butter, and cup of coffee. There were only a few tables, so most people just grabbed their food and stood around eating. There are no computers for internet use, no lounge area, and no luggage storage. Reception will direct you to an laundromat a few blocks away that will store your luggage for a couple of Euros.

Overall, this place is depressing and gross. The cost is about the same as other hostels in the area, so I'd recommend one of the other ones rather than here.
