When we first arrived we had no power in our room so had to get the desk to come up and fix it, then our air conditioning was not working properly and the first night was stinking hot, we complained and the next day the got someone into fix it (not great but better than the night before). As we were on the 2nd floor we were advised not to open our window which we couldn't have done anyway as the shutters on the outside were broken (so would have banged in the wind). The view from the window was a suburban street overlooking commercial style rubbish bins. Reception was very helpful and the bar area was very pleasant as was the breakfasts and roof top garden area. This hotel had free Wifi which worked in the rooms and in the lobby equally as well. If the room is in good condition then I would have recommended this hotel but on my experience its hard too. The location was Ok with the local transit station within walking distance.

Room Tip: I think you need to have room overlooking the inner courtyard rather than the outside of the hotel

We stayed at Hotel Ateneo for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Everyone at the hotel is very helpful, polite and speaks English. The hotel is very clean, modern and elegant, and the wi-fi is free and fast. The roof top bar is beautiful with excellent italian-style breakfast.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.

A very pleasant hotel with a nice room and beautiful balcony. Receptionists are all very helpful, nice and professional. Good breakfast food. The hotel barista makes really good coffee and can make it for your liking to take to the room. Wi fi was unreliable. Lots of mosquitoes so we had to keep the balcony door shut from early evening. I like the area - close to Termini (10-15 min walk) but I had a sense of real Rome as there are very few tourists. Lots of little restaurants, always full at night. Italians don't seem to mind late nights on work days.

The room was clean and very quiet, but the wifi was unreliable and there was nowhere to make a hot drink. Lots of places to eat locally, away from the crush of tourists. The hotel location is not on the map available at the front desk - they need to provide a map of the local area and some info on public transport.

I stayed here because it was close to the university. It was a disappointing experience. The wifi is extremely flaky and rarely stays up for more than an hour or two, often going down for a whole day. There is no room service, no laundry service, no telephones in the rooms, nowhere to make a tea or coffee. On the plus side, the rooms are relatively large for a European hotel, and well maintained although relatively old furnishings.

Stayed here with a large group in March 2013. Staff were friendly and efficient when handling large groups checking in and check out. Common areas are spacious and clean. Nice lobby bar area but it is covered by front desk staff person so there may be a short wait when they are busy. The bathrooms were large and clean. Loved the towel warmers, very nice touch. Rooms had plenty of drawer and armoire storage space. Internet worked well in lobby. Breakfast was okay. Juices were good and plentiful. My only complaint was the electrical outlets burned out quite a few of my small appliances or did not work at all. I was using a converter to U.S. but it didn't work or fried my appliances. Not good since this was the first hotel of our trip. No one else experienced this issue so it may have been just our room. There is a great restaurant across the street with the best gnocchi I had in Italy. Walking distance to university bars and train station. I do not have a lot to compare this to for options in Rome but for our first stop I was very pleased with this small clean and comfortable hotel in a great location.

Room Tip: Close to the lobby rooms will get Internet.
