“Well-decorated B&B in Trastevere”
Reviewed 3 July 2013

First of all, I must admit that I spent only one night in Dulcis In Fundo, which makes my experience rather limited.
During our previous visit to Rome we were staying in Termini area, so for this trip we wanted to book a hotel in a nice neighbourhood. Prices in Rome hotels located in city centre a rather high in summer, in that scenario the prices in this B&B seemed very attractive.
We were expecting to arrive in the B&B after midnight, so I let the staff know about this fact for more than 2 weeks before arrival. You have to know that for any uncoordinated check-in, or for check-on with delay equal or more than 1 hour there is a fine in the amount of € 25.00. Anyway, we negotiated time of my arrival 4 times - in my booking request, in my first warn and the feedback, then I was asked about my arrival for the 2d time by another person, and finally upon our arrival the lady in the B&B thought that we had had to come at 10 PM (when in our correspondence I clearly indicated that we'd come after midnight to the B&B, as our flight would arrive at 10 PM). Fortunately, I explained that and we did not pay any sanctions. That's it for the administrative part.
As I already mentioned, the location is very nice. It's situated in the part of Trastevere from each you can easily walk to the very city centre in 15-20 min. As well as Trastevere itself is very beautiful and romantic.
The room was very clean and well-decorated. Can't say the room was too big or too small, just normal:) I also enjoyed the spacious bathroom which looked great.
But it was rather hot there. The lady which met us told that she let some air in by opening windows prior to our arrival. It helped a little, but all in all it was stuffy while according to our booking info the room had to be air-conditioned.
Breakfast was included in the price - tea or coffe with a nice pastry.
In a general way, my expereince was ambiguous, may be you'lle have a better one.

cara ospite

I have a lot of words about this place: it's in the centre of Rome, very close to Pantheon and Piazza Navona. We don't use a taxi, because we can go everywhere by feet. The room was very clean and comfortable - cleaning woman Natasha is the best person in the world, so kind and smily )
The owners of flat - Piera and Franchesca are very cool and beautiful girls, they can help you to explain where to go and what to visit.
What's else?
A lot of good things, but it's hard to explain, so you must try it! Visit Dulcis il Fundo and it will be the best trip!

My partner and I stayed at Dulcis in Fundo for our Roman holidays and we cannot be happier with the service, the kindness of the women who worked there, the location of the B&B, the room... Everything was more than perfect!
Clean, spacious rooms furnished elegantly. Best croissants of Rome for breakfast. Great location in the heart of Rome, close to public transportation if needed, close to great and authentic restaurants, roman attractions, clubs, shopping etc.
We loved staying there and warmly recommend this lovely B&B!

Room Tip: We stayed at room nr 1. clearly the best one :)

The location of the hotel was great, the centre of trastevere with all the bars and restaurants was just 10 minutes by walking. There was a tram station just outside the hotel that could drive us nearby the historical centre. The room was spacious, really comfortable and renovated. The bathroom was very clean with allday hot water. The hostess was very friendly and helpful, she gave us definitions about everything we asked. The breakfast was filling enough including the most delicious filled croissants i have ever had! From the other side, the walls were thin enough to hear noise from other rooms(we were not really disturbed),but the problem was that every time someone was visiting the bathroom,we heard the annoying noise of water running through the drainage! There was also a lack of a comfortable wardrobe.

I stayed there for two of my last days in Rome. I found the place to be quite charming and very close to trams and buses for transport.

Great location with restaurants, ATMs, Pizzerias and 10 minutes from Isola Tiberina which has one of the best ambiances for a few drinks, great food and gelato.

The rooms and the bathrooms are very clean. The walls are a bit thin but I never encountered any problems with noise. It was an affordable place with the right things I was looking for. The host was very gracious in allowing us to leave the bags with them after checking out since my train was much later in the afternoon and i wanted to visit the city one more time without the bags.

Great Location, Clean rooms, Good Choice.

The location is good, 5 minutes walking from S. Maria in Trastevere. The building is nice, rooms are quite spacious. We had a bad surprise: even if on our booking we had a room with private bathroom, we find out that this was not the case: the bathroom was shared with other 2 rooms!!! This was very disappointing and the owner simply told us that "There is an error on the web site"... So be VERY careful when booking, to explicitly ask for a private bathroom!! Other drawbacks: 1) the breakfast is very poor: coffee or tea, **bad** orange juice, poor biscuits, 2) no wardrobe/closet in the rooms, 3) the rooms are very noisy, the walls are thin and you can hear everything from the other rooms and from the street, 4) there is no common room for breakfast/relax, 5) you can pay only cash.

Our experience was horrible from the very beginning. When we first arrived, there was no one at the hotel to let us in. The business was clearly not very established because their name was written in tacky pen and paper next to the doorbell machine. Once we finally made it into the building through other residents, there was still no receptionist to show us into the bed and breakfast. After looking around for another 20 minutes, we managed to get a nice Italian lady who knew some English to call our receptionist/manager Piera to see what was going on. It turns out that she was out shopping or something and was on her way back. So we waited in the hallway for another 20 minutes before she arrived. She wasn't even apologetic, she actually tried to put the blame on us saying that we should have told her when we were arriving. ( we would have if we knew that was the case) what appalled me the most was that she said "I wasn't going to wait around for you to arrive." What are we paying for then?
She finally lets us into our room which was nice with a great view, however, that was about to change the next morning. The walls in this place is unbelievably thin, you can hear everything. We were woken up to people talking, cleaning, and vacuum blasting ( this is every morning by the way) you can hear every time someone from the next rooms over when they use the washroom. For breakfast I was served a moldy drink of some kind of juice... yes moldy. After breakfast, the same lady Piera who was late to let us in comes to tell us that she made a mistake and that we were in the wrong room. So we had to repack everything and move. The new room was a bit nicer but no view. I was still upset about the moldy drink and wanted to check the rest of the juice from where it came from. I checked their "pantry" in the afternoon and they leave everything out in the open with no refrigerator (they said they had one on the website) This is a food safety violation. The juice was in a pitcher and there was mold all over inside the lid and the opening of the lid from where the juice is poured. They also leave the dairy products such as creamer and milk sitting out for days. When I pointed it out to Piera, once again she didn't say sorry, she just said "oh thanks for letting me know"
It's been raining a lot for the first few days that we were there so we had to use more towels than normal and they were really frugal with them when we asked for new ones. The first time we asked for just one they said "oh we gave you new ones yesterday" .... they were still wet from yesterday. They responded the same way again when we asked for them the second time. They've only ever gave us one set of new towels from when we first arrived. Seriously, we only took 3 more towels in total. Not a big deal. They have stacks of them in the armoire.
The was no hot water for a whole day and into the next morning, when I brought it up to the Piera, she told us that is was because we pushed this switch in the bedroom that said "do not touch" trying to put the blame on us again. We did not touch the switch at all just to be clear and in any case she really should've explained to us why people shouldn't push the switch instead of just saying don't push it so we can easily fix it ourselves. This is also another violation, establishments must have hot water to be in business.
On top of all this, she bugs about the rest of the payment which we can only pay in cash, which was really inconvenient since we made the first deposit by credit. Every morning is a huge ordeal since we can hear everything that goes on outside the door. The vacuum is the worst. Stuff breaks off the door knobs every time we use the keys and the bathroom door gets locked all the time. They don't include half the stuff they say they have. There was no tv, radio, dvd, cd player, telephone or kettle in our room. Maybe in the staff's room but definitely not ours. There is no reading/ relax/ breakfast room and again there is no refrigerator so don't trust the food people can get seriously sick.
When we asked her for some sort of compensation for the poor service we've been getting her initial response was "if you want great service you should pay for a hotel that's 900/night". I've been to better places with impeccable service for just 60/night, hostels would've been better than staying there. She managed to knock off 85 euros from our total, but overall the stay there was definitely not worth it.
