“Do yourself a favour and don't book this hotel!!!”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

This hotel is in the middle of nowhere with not a shop in sight for miles. We were in a dull, depressing room WITH NO BALCONY. We were not informed that there was a spa or gym and we had no information in regards to the facilities in the hotel whatsoever. On the one occasion we arrived back early one day, the intention was to make use of the hotel's sun terrace but we were advised that it was closed for cleaning at 2.00pm in the afternoon. The hotel has one table and 4 chairs situated in the garden at the entrance but being on a main road not the ideal place to relax!!! We decided to have dinner one evening in the roof top restaurant - worst meal we have ever had!! - 3 of us ordered grilled chicken which was inedible - one of us had what looked like the chicken's rib cage - all bone and cartilage - very little chicken and the other members of our party had what only can be described as Heinz spaghetti with blobs of cheese - which was cold - this cost over 100 euros. With no shops around we had to make use of the drinks available in the mini bar - at 4 euros for a can of coke!! On the last night we had a power cut from 9.30pm and the power did not come back on until 6.30 the following morning - no apology or explanation. We were really looking forward to this this trip but our choice of hotel ruined it!!

I normally stay in 5+ star accommodation. My son and I checked out Tripadvisor and Booking.com and found this hotel had good reviews. Still I was skeptical but booked the accommodations. Couldn't be more happy. Great value, super clean rooms, warm and friendly greeting and quite honestly great feeling to walk to different locations as you feel more alive and invigorated. The food at the hotel is fantastic. Can easily become part of the 5 star family hotels. All in all, it was very charming.

We booked our holiday a bit at the last minute and when I found the DLP Hotel, I knew that this one had more to offer than the others I had seen in the same price range.
It was located in the Northern Western section of the city, right next to the river. Its location meant two things: no tourists in the vicinity but also that you had to walk to get where you wanted to go in the city.
We personally love walking and made our way easily into all the different spots: Vatican City (15 minute walk), Piazza del Popolo (10 mins) or Villa Medici and its beautiful view over Rome (15 mins).
Regarding the hotel itself: most of the staff were friendly but the person who received us seemed annoyed with our questions (a trend we noticed quite a bit in Rome), breakfast was perfectly suitable and the rooms were clean and had a nice little balcony.
Just be mindful of the city tax due at the end of your stay 3€pp/per night).

I would highly recommend this hotel and will most probably use it again for future stay.

Very handy location, about 5 minutes from the piazza del popolo as well as the metro. If you smoke, you can on the balcony of your room. Food is good but I would suggest going out, more choice and slightly cheaper.

We found DLP on Booking.com. Got a great rate and reviews were accurate. We wanted to be closer to Vatican this trip and so decided not to stay near other Ancient sites. Also, wanted to go to Borghese Gardens and Museum. We wanted to walk. It was a hike to Vatican Museum and St. Peter's, but we did it! We also walked to Borghese Gardens, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona,Pantheon, etc. lots of walking, but doable. We ended up taxing to Borghese Museum because we were pooped after walking to and from a day at the Vatical Museum. We took a long walk back after museum and stopped for dinner near Piazza Popolo (the closest attraction across the Tiber). The hotel was nice. Our room was large and the bath was very nice. The night front desk clerk was a jewel. She gave great advice for dinner and the best gelato! Only 2 concerns I mention in the interest of full disclosure. First, we arrived April 29 and the air conditioning was not on until May 1. Unfortunately, it was unseasonably warm, so sleeping with balcony door open was necessary...and somewhat noisy. It was great our last night with ac on and door closed. Also, wifi was down the whole time we were there...free wifi was a selling point after 2 weeks out of touch on Transatlantic cruise. The manager was very accommodating when he saw how distraught I was...I needed to arrange final taxi (only doable on-line) and wanted to contact family and friends at home. He instructed the staff to let me use the computer in his office after he left at 6 every night. It all worked out, so I was satisfied with the compromise. I consider that good customer service and so do recommend DLP. Be ware there are no restaurants close, so you need to plan to go across the river for dinner. There is a nice restaurant in the hotel, however. We had our last dinner in as it was pouring outside. The food was nice and the service good. It wasn't fabulous, but a nice experience. Breakfast was not memorable, but sufficient. Overall, it was a good value and a pleasant experience. We probably won't return, however, as we are finished with Vatican City (this was our third visit). I recommend DLP, just know what you are getting.

Room Tip: We had a deluxe double on floor above reception, above front door, with a balcony. Just beware of so...

The best thing about Hotel Donna Laura Palace is its staff. Everyone from the receptionists (both morning and evening), the porter, the bartender cum waiter etc. were extremely friendly and volunteered information about the city and tourists spots etc. The location was perfect, very near Vatican city and you can walk to many of the attractions including Spanish steps, the shopping district, Trevi fountain etc. Two of the metros within 10 - 15 mins walking distance. The room was spacious, bathroom was large and renovated, decor was a bit gaudy for my taste but who cares if the service is that great ! Good experience overall and would recommend to friends.

This review is being written just before we leave so we don't forget anything and we shall be QUITE sorry to leave (after a 1 week stay) but sadly, not VERY! Before arriving we e-mailed ahead to confirm that our Lastmunite.com booking had been recognised and we HAD got a room...after 8 hours of travelling we arrived in the 33degC heat to be told we HAD NOT!!!! Even this was bitter-sweet because if you ever had to receive bad news, you would want Francesca to tell you. She was charming, apologetic and created calm out of a seriously annoying situation. We were shipped out to Grand Hotel Fleming (see separate review) and shipped back (at no cost to us other than time) the following day...so now our 7 day stay had become a 6-day, two-centre one! On our first night in this hotel the air-conditioning started to drip into the room at 5.00AM (!) which worried us a bit but it was fixed immediately and was no further trouble. Our visit was both to see Rome and to see a close friend get married, so other friends joined us and we ate in on the first night; this WAS a big disappointment! Assuming the chef was Italian it should been seen as a failure that the Spaghetti Carbonara was inedible; dried pasta had been used (surely a crime in Italy?!), not cooked fully and the sauce was so salty that beer sales shot up! Only one starter (out of 3) was available (Proscuttio ham with mozarrella) and my wife doesn't even LIKE mozzarella cheese....it came with three great big blobs of the stuff, not even sliced nicely! OK! that's the bad news out of the way, what about the good? The room was comfortable and well appointed, there was a reasonably stocked minibar and the excellent room maids looked after us well, nothing was too much trouble. In fact it is the staff (except for a chef!) who make this hotel. The names of the front of house staff should be up in lights, Alessandro, Giovanni, Katharina and Francesca, you are all stars. On the last morning I met with the management to express both the highs and lows of our stay and received an apology only and no monetary gesture for the inconvenience of "losing" a day of our holiday through overbooking, for this is what it turned out to be. In order to fit a large group in they were prepared to sacrifice the good will of an individual staying for a week, who probably wouldn't come this way again. Reading other reviews I would say this is probably a LO.AN Group thing and would not be surprised if it happened at their other hotels too. They "sweat their assets" at a cost to their reputation, overbooking rooms and keeping stocks ( of minor things like food!) low. It would be nice if their directors read this review and took note...but I doubt it! So, in short(!), DO stay here (room 108 is a nice one but the shower shield leaks like a sieve and leaves a pond for you to paddle in every morning!), make sure you don't pay more then €100 per night ( which is possible if you book well in advance) and enjoy being out of the city centre in a relatively (for Rome!) quiet suburb. Above ALL else, send an e-mail requesting confirmation NOT that they recognise your booking but that you WILL be checked into a room in THIS hotel upon arrival! Then enjoy a nice welcome from the staff and a pleasant stay; eating may be better now we've alerted the mangement but Piazza del Popolo is only a 15 minute walk away with plenty of choice. Sorry for writing so much..but you need to know!

Room Tip: You CAN hear the road but the double glazing works well, a room at the back of the hotel would be qu...
