“Very good hotel”
Reviewed 16 September 2012

Location is great. 5 min walk from the metro station. The area is residential, so is very quiet. We walked till 11 o'clock and never felt anything danger. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Rooms were good, not so big. But for us were very adequate. Bathroom was big enough. They were very very clean. Elevatores were fine. We do not asked breakfast, but the hotel has a cafe right in front that is very very good. I'm going to stay at this hotel when i get back to Rome.

This hotel is lovely and good value once you find it. It is a little tucked away in a residential area, which is nice and quiet. There was enough choice for breakfast and the hot choices were hot. Staff were friendly and helpful and they spoke good English. The room was an adequate size and clean.

We chose to make our own way to the hotel, using the Leonardo Express (14 euro each, but buy from a fast ticket as they charge a booking fee at the ticket office), from the Airport and the Metro to Bologna Station. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and we were drenched by the time we eventually found the hotel from the Metro station, (although once you know where you are going is only a 5 minute walk). Who would have thought phone GPS would be so helpful.

Eating in the local area is very much catered for locals and not tourists. Unable to find an Italian restaurant on our first night we ended up in at a Sushi Buffet Restaurant (19 euro each), and you ordered from a menu as much as you liked. The staff spoke very little English and the menu was in Italian but we managed and had a very nice meal. There are many cafes in the area and serve lovely pastries and plenty off coffee and alcohol.

All in all not a bad place to stay, but if bad weather we would recommend that you get a taxi from the Airport but it will cost you around 50 euro.

A word of warning, avoid the Metro at rush hours if at all possible. We were unfortunately victims of pickpockets and the police were less then useless.

You tend to know what you are getting with Accor Hotels, and this Mercure falls in to this category. Location was great, a mere five minutes form the Bologna Metro stop, and we discovered that the 62 bus takes you right in to the heart of the city as well. Nearby are a few nice restaurants and typical Italian cafes, frequented by locals and tourists alike, and a better option than the expensive breakfast available in the hotel, 12 euros for 3 of us versus 15 euros each for hotel breakfast. Rooms were clean, bright and quite airy during an exceptionally hot Roma long weekend. There was also free Wifi - a bonus as surprisingly so few hotels still make you pay for this.

As you would expect from a Mercure, the room was clean, well furnished and met all my needs. A great bonus was they provided 2 bottles of drinking water for free in a fridge which was a necessity in the August heat! We didn't eat breakfast int he hotel as it was very expensive. We went to a cafe around the corner instead and paid for 3 people the eqivalent of less than one hotel breakfast. The hotel is slightly out of the city cetnre but is 5 minutes walk from Bologna metro station which can more or less get you anywhere you need to go in Rome. There is also the 62 bus which runs from a nearby street which can take you near to the Pantheon and Piazza Navona where there are some lovely and good-value restaurants.
The staff are very helpful and provided us with information on a lovely local restaurant which was just down the road.

The localization is terrific, next to a metro station, near good restaurants and in a friendly neighborhood. The black-out courtines didn't work, so the room was very bright in the mornings, but overall it's a good hotel.
