“Nice Hotel Outside Rome's Centre”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

I stayed here in October 2013. The hotel is close to the edge of the Rome ring road (their M25). The hotel is convenient if you want to stay outside of Rome itself. However there is almost nothing in the surrounding area to walk to and you need to travel by car. The roads in the surrounding area are not in a good condition and traffic in the surrounding area is horrendous particularly in rush hour.
That said the hotel is new, modern and clean and far enough away from the main roads not to hear the traffic. The room was clean and presentable in a standard way. However the mattress was hard and the pillows on the slim side. The room was warm but the air conditioning was not very efficient. I did not eat in the restaurant but the breakfast selection was a bit on the basic side – limited choice and not much selection.

This is the third Novotel we've used, and it will be our last.

As other reviewers have stated - it is FAR from the city of Rome. The shuttle that you can take to and from the the hotel has inconvenient times, which take all the flexibility out of your day. Only one shuttle out in the morning and only one back in the evenings on weekdays. Although they have more times on the weekends, if you or your children get tired and you want to go back earlier than planned on Saturday - too bad - you need to hang out and find something to do until your booked shuttle time. The train and metro options are not good, either. It's a long and isolated walk to the train station which takes you to the metro.

The rooms are typical tiny Novotel rooms, and the bathroom is pathetic. Poor shower and sink design. The shower curtain design makes a shower that might be big enough way too small, and the faucet design causes you to hit your forehead on the faucet when washing your face.

The restaurant food was okay. Our breakfast was included in our rate, and it was adequate. We did eat lunch in the restaurant one day, and the food was okay, but WAY OVER PRICED. I supposed that since this hotel is in the middle of nowhere, they can charge what they want - you are at their mercy.

But the straw that broke the camel's back for us was the currency. We booked our hotel on a price agreed to in Euros. However, since our credit card is from the US, the hotel charged us in dollars, without asking us. The receipt says they asked and we agreed to the currency, because THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO ASK. They did not, and at the same time they charged us a 3% higher exchange rate than our credit card would have, causing our room to cost about $20 more than it should have. They refused to correct the transaction at the front desk, and two emails to Novotel customer service have remained unanswered for over two weeks now. This is the second time this has happened to us at a Novotel, and we will never stay in a Novotel again. We stayed in hotels for over 40 nights in 2013, and any and all future hotel money that we spend will be with Novotels competitors. We will also tell every expat family we ever meet to avoid Novotel, as well.

Thanks Novotel for being so greedy.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to inform us about your experience following your stay at our hotel.
We would like to reassure you that the menu of our Restaurant is the same in all the Novotel in Italy, so same prices, same dishes also in the center of Milan, Venice or Florence.
As regards the payment in dollars, normally is very convenient and the exchange rate is the same or lower than the one of your bank, but, after proper controls, we will gladly refund the difference if the exchange rate has been not convenient. We have already written to you privately explaining how to get the refund.
We hope to welcoming you again upon your next stay, trying then to regain your confidence.
Yours sincerely,

The hotel is at best a good 3 star.Rooms and bathrooms good and comfortable. the bidet in the bathroom , much appreciated.Breakfast, functional but enough to provide a reasonable headstart to the day. We had a separate area for breakfast, and coffee vending machine was not working. However the lady obliged , by providing us hot chocolate in thermos flask for our entire group of 20 persons. Very far from city centre, so own transport a must in order to be mobile.

I frequently stay in Novotel, for business or for familly travel, as usual Novotel in Roma was nice and clean, with nice children corner and very friendly employees. It is outside Roma, so we rented a car to be independant from the shuttle and it took us 30mn to drive to a free parking associated to metro station during the week and only 20 mn at week-end to park beside Villa Borghèse. Breakfast and dinner were good for the money, specially breakfast.
My only concern is about the familly room, we choose to pay for an Executive room and I didn't have the feeling to be in a higher level room (except the Nespresso machine that we never used), same size than normal room, toilets not separated from the bath room which was as usual and far from the design we found in Novotel London Blakfriars, Paris Eiffel tower or Athens.

If you need a clean and decent hotel for family to enjoy a good night sleep, this is an excellent choice.

Staffs are generally friendly and helpful. However, the hotel is located outside the city, thus, we made plan to spend the whole day in the city and returned to the hotel only at night to sleep. The price factor is the main reason that drawn to us this hotel, thus, we have no complaint against the location.
