Martina house was surprisingly good for a self-run guest house. Martina herself was extremely hospitable and caring. The location is perfect and lots of parkings nearby. Great breakfast, real value for money. Of course the elevator is quite ancient but it was an authentic experience - felt like we really stayed in Old Rome.

This guest house was a great place to stay. We stayed for four nights in the beautiful historic rooms, which were very clean. Breakfasts were good, plenty to eat and Martina herself was lovely. I would definitely recommend this for those who don't conform to the norm and stay in large impersonal hotels.

Martina House is ideally situated at the top of Via Veneto and is within walking distance to the majority of the main sights. There are only four rooms in this beautiful apartment so it is nice and quiet and very clean. We spent four nights in Room 1 and had everything we needed (hair dryers ARE available if you ask when you arrive) and this was a great base for our holiday.

Breakfast is basic and is served from 830am - we missed breakfast on two occasions because we wanted to get an early start for our long days of exploring the city.

We slept with the window open, as our room had an interior view and was very quiet - the only problem with that was the mosquitos, but I suppose that's to be expected when you leave a window open at night in 24 degree temperature :)

The lift is small (holds 2 people only) but runs very smoothly. One evening it wasn't working and we had to walk up the 5 flights - we survived but I would not recommend taking the stairs after a long day of walking unless you are extremely fit.

Martina, Elena and Massimiliano were all very friendly and helpful and made us feel very much at home.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely and those that face Via Veneto are noisy only if the windows are open. Request...

Let me start by saying that some of the lower ranked reviews are correct. Marina House is not for everyone. You ride up to the 5th floor on what must be the original Otis elevator (mahogany and wrought iron). You enter Martina House which only has 4 guest rooms. The door keys fit locks in ornate doors from the early 1800's. The furniture is all period antiques. The only thing at Martina House which is not antique is Martina herself, who is a lovely young lady.

Some may not like the feel of living in a museum, but we loved the place. The bathroom that we had was fairly modern and everything worked well. Martina assigns seats to each of the guest for breakfast and brings baskets of fresh bread and prosciutto. Pouring coffee and orange juice. Waiting on each guest and mothering us, slicing chocolate cake into our plates.
Did I mention that she was cute.

This is an inexpensive guest house in probably the most expensive part of Rome Via Veneto. The neighborhood was primarily 5 star hotels and limos. The bad you need to walk more than 10 minutes to get a glass of wine for less than 15 euros. The good 5 minutes gets you into the Villa Borghese the nicest park in Rome. The Spanish Stairs and Trevi Fountain are close.

We absolutely loved our stay at Martina House.

For location, the hotel is good value for money. We walked to most sights and made the most of Villa Borghese nearby with our two children. The biggest advantage for us was having a quad room which was sufficient for our needs ie for sleeping. The beds were comfortable. I liked this hotel because it was personal and felt like Rome and not a hotel anywhere in the world.Via venetto is nearby and the area is expensive so you have to be careful where you stop for a drink!
The apartment and lift are very quaint with a lot of character.
