“Good Little Hotel in a Great Area”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 November 2012

We chose this hotel specifically for its location in Navona, an old area of Rome with narrow streets, but full of restaurants and away from the main tourist areas. It's about a 5 minute walk to the Pantheon and a 15-20 minute walk from the Spagna Metro Station. A half-hour walk across the Tevere (Tiber) and you're at the Vatican.
It's small (15 rooms), in an old building that appears to have been completely gutted and done over in a modern style. Rooms are nice-sized, and the bathroom blows away the usual U.S. hotel bathroom.....as well as some we've been in in Europe. It's equipped with a small, but very efficient elevator, and the front desk is manned all the time. All the staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. The dining room is quite nice, and large enough to accommodate virtually a full house. The breakfast buffet is quite up to European standards, and then some, with excellent variety (Note: this is NOT an American hot foods buffet). The coffee machine in the dining room is available at all hours, and the rooms are equipped with individual Nespresso machines, a nice touch.
The four-star rating was incurred because I believe that this hotel's normal rates are quite pricey. We got a non-cancellable Internet special that amounted to about US$150 per day, but the regular rate would have been more than twice that.

Room Tip: Rooms have shutters, and also internal modern windows, meaning street noise is not an issue. In this...

Hotel exceeded expectations. The location is perfect. Close to everything but slightly off the tourist path on a lovely quiet street. The rooms are very large, clean and nicely furnished. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice boutique hotel experience at an affordable price range.

This gorgeous boutique hotel is an exceptional place to stay. My bed (which had a heart made out of chocolates on it when I arrived) was absolutely comfortable and amazingly so was the pillow (I usually bring my own). The room was immaculate with plenty of space and my stained glass windows opened onto a lovely cobblestone street. Breakfast was plentiful, and even though I can't eat sugar and couldn't indulge in the gorgeous cakes from the local bakery (that is one of the best in Rome), I enjoyed a good selection of bread, cheese, fresh fruit and yoghurt. This hotel has recently been renovated, which means they're still working on a few teething problems (caulk between shower pillars and walls leaked in some of the rooms which resulted in water running into our bathroom from the one above one day--not going to happen to you, the staff got onto it immediately!).

What makes the hotel actually five star, however, is its location. I literally walked to everywhere, and I mean everywhere, in Rome from this base. After only a 15 minute stroll you can reach every place of interest, and its proximity to Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Spanish Steps...meant that I could zip over there first thing in the morning and enjoy them without a tourist in sight or amble back after dinner to watch the crowds. No need for on-off buses or transport. I can't imagine basing myself anywhere else in Rome.

Room Tip: We were in 204 which was lovely. If you don't need a bathtub, ask for one of the rooms with a t...

Excel Navona is a new, small boutique hotel at 3-star level. Once a school, now there is a hotel with 18 modern rooms. Excel Navona is a small City hotel with limited facilities. My room (# 206) was of a good size, had a good bed, but a bit short for tall people from Northern Europe. The bathroom was clean and neat, with a bathtub and shower in the bath. The shower hose is far too short, and therefore one can not stand under the shower. The entire hotel, rooms and hallways are lined with marble, so inevitable noise from other guests. My room was opposite the elevator, so sometimes noise from guests waiting for the elevator and talking. The rooms are equipped with a Nesprsso coffee machine, a safe and have ample hanging and storage space for clothes. The air conditioning works perfectly, which is essential during hot summer times in the old center of Rome. Excel Navona has a small breakfast room, with an extensive breakfast buffet and here also a good Nespresso Coffee machine. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they speak excellent english. Hotel Excel Navona is right in the old center of Rome, between Pantheon and Piazza Novona, both a 5-minute walk away. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel are many good restaurants, even at Michelin star level, e.g Il Convivio and Hostaria dell'Orso at the end of Via dell'Orso. Do not mix up the latter with "dell'Orso 80" halfway through the Via dell'Orso. If you prefer a typical Italian restaurant with good food and Italian ambience, opt for Lagana, next to the hotel.

This is a wonderful hotel! It far surpasses it's 3 star rating. The rooms are really lovely with modern bathrooms but interesting touches that highlight the history of the building. It is a relatively small hotel which makes it personable and quaint. The location couldn't be better...very close to Piazza Navona but on a quiet pedestrian street in a beautiful location with some good restaurants right outside its door. I came for a friends wedding at the start of my holiday and stayed about a week. I then returned at the end of my trip and ended up staying almost another week. It is a great place!

Room Tip: Altough the rooms at the front of the hotel are not really very noisy given that it is on a small pe...

Loved this place; a) our room on top floor slept 3, and had private elevataor and terrace b) the AC was working and nice, and c) its located super close to Piazza Navonna. We had a good price (i think under 150 euros for 3 of us) and again, loved the location.
Staff was nice, breakfast was standard European coffee, rolls, and meat.

Room Tip: top room was fantastic; only 1 on top floor; hotel elevator goes there...but only for occupant of t...
