We visited Rome last year with our then 5 and 6 year old girls who were kinda-sorta interested in history and art....sorta. But when Valentina showed them around and was so clever in sharing the stories of Rome that this year we HAD to see her again. Thankfully (Grazie Ivana for organizing!) Valentina was able to show us a new side of Rome. The art and history of Baroque. Begging all the way to the Spanish Steps our now 6 & 7 yr olds asked 'will we see Valentina!!? Please! I hope our guide is Valentina!" When we all saw her it was a lovely gift! It felt like seeing an old friend.

The art and history of Baroque sounds intimidating (to us anyhow) but is intriguing and entertaining for both the children and adults. We felt like a favourite friend showed us their home and with such enthusiasm! Stopping for colouring and drawing what they saw, learning about the piazza statues we've walked past many times without understanding the importance or humour of the artists. it was the perfect day for us.

The treasures of Rome can only be shared with a guide like her. With such a fabulous record of success with Valentina we would recommend Rome Private Guides to anyone who wants a sweet and informative guide and great with our children. Valentina we hope to be schooled by you again next year!

Helpful Tip for parents: read a little about where you're going or doing so that if there is more you want to know or if there is a 'rumour' of something you've heard then ask all about it. It is not just about the kids. You get a lot from it too. These guide know their stuff! They will tell you what the historians know....because that is who they are. Educated, smart and kind historians!

Yes, Rome Private Guides also arranges tours in Venice, and they were absolutely great. They are very clear in their communication, answer every question patiently and in detail, and mean it when they say that their job is to provide the kind of tour you want. We just returned from Venice where we had a four-hour walking tour of the main sites in and around St. Marco Square, and then, with our enthusiastic and energetic guide, Francesca, walking to Ca'Rezzonico, where she told us about the architecture and history of many places along the way. As a native of Venice, Francesca's love of the city made the tour extra special and helped us understand not only history but also life in the city now.

Our Roman tours and adventures were perfectly executed and organized by Laura. Her prompt and thorough communications before and during our 5 day trip in Rome gave us the comfort of being in very capable hands. Our first tour with the wonderful Emmanuella at the Colliesum and San Clemente was interesting and engaging for our 8 year old son and us, too. Second, we did the sunset electric golf cart tour and our tour guide Manuel was terrific. He took us to interesting places that we couldn't have managed on foot. My son enjoyed sitting up front with all the attention on him. Lastly, we did a Friday night tour of the Vatican Museum with Chiara. She was fantastic. So worth skipping the lines and having a one and one experience like this. My husband and are not tour people, but we decided to try it this time since it was our first European trip with our son. We do not regret it one bit. It was a perfect start to a wonderful European adventure. Laura also arranged for transportation from the airport to our apartment and from the apartment to the port. The driver was gracious and prompt and the van was large enough to fit all of our luggage!

We highly recommend the MARVELOUS tour of Rome given by Jan & Josh. Extremely knowledgeable about history, architecture, and the walking routes of the city. They are patient and amicable! As retired history teachers we appreciated everything about our Rome Tour.

I began emailing Laura about a year before our trip to Italy and our NCL cruise planning private tours for our family of 4 with two children ages 8 and 5. It was extremely important to me that our young children were drawn into the tours and actively learning about Rome, the Vatican and Naples and not simply standing by and asking what was next. Laura, who answered all of my questions and was super patient, helped me set up 4 tours with RPG. We decided on the Walking Rome Tour with kids and Coliseum (lunch break) followed by the Overall Tour of Rome so that we could experience as much of Rome in one day as possible! Chiara was our guide for both tours and she was fantastic! Chiara spoke to our children on their level and would sit on the floor in front of them sharing overlays and i pad presentations! And believe me ... this helped my husband and I as well! We spent 6 hours with Chiara that day and every single minute was magical! As Chiara showed us a new part of Palantine Hill that was just recently opened, she was like a kid in the candy store and her enthusiasm built even more excitement into our tour! Our day in Rome was phenomenal and indeed without Chiara we would have been just looking at old ruins!
The next morning Laura was our tour guide for our 3 hour Vatican with Kids tour. Once again, I just can't say enough about how she drew our kids into the history and surroundings of the Vatican! We sat on a bench with the dome of St. Peter's as a backdrop as Laura used an i pad to show and tell us about the art we would see in the Sistine Chapel. This 15 minutes paid off well when we entered the magnificent Chapel an hour later. Our 8 year old daughter absolutely loved the tour of the Vatican museums and St. Peter's Basilica and it was all because of Laura! Laura answered all of our questions and pointed out so many beautiful pieces of artwork in the museums as she told their stories to us as well. After our tour Laura took us to a small restaurant close by that made their own pasta. It was one of the top 3 meals of our two week trip. The Vatican tour was definitely a highlight of our trip for me, my husband and more importantly our 2 children!
Finally, a week later in Naples we used Rome Private Guides for a shore excursion to Pompeii, the Amalfi coast and Sorrento. Guytano was our driver for 8 hours and Carolina was our private guide for our 2 hour tour in Pompeii. Guytano picked us up at the port at 8:30 am and drove us directly to Pompeii to beat the crowds. As we drove he told us all about the Naples area and Mt. Vesuvius. Our daughter was frightened by the thought of being so close to a volcano and when we mentioned that to Guytano he told her all about how scientists monitor the volcano every single day and that took all of her fears away. We met Carolina at Pompeii and she bought us our tickets and we all went inside. We nearly had the place to ourselves since RPG took us to see the ruins in the early morning! The place is huge and we were happy to have our private guide lead us through all the major highlights of this ancient city. She described and explained everything about the ancient ruins and answered all of our questions along the way! The only thing that we wished is that she had some of the overlays, like our last 2 guides, to show how us how the city actually looked before the eruption. I must admit, however, that while on the tour with Carolina we never even thought about the overlays because she described everything about the city so vividly we really could SEE it! After Pompeii Guytano took us to the Amalfi Coast stopping to take pictures of the beautiful scenery along the way. He made us a reservation at a small family owned restaurant high up on the hill with a panoramic view of the coast... it was quite stunning! Guytano obviously knew the owners well and took our kids to meet the pizza chef who then invited them each to make a pizza of there own! Talk about the highlight of the day for a 5 year old! We were given the best table in the restaurant and we enjoyed our meal, wine and lemoncello all with a view that we didn't want to ever take our eyes off! Once again... this meal was one of our top 3... if not THE BEST that we had on our entire trip! We were then off to Sorrento for some time to explore this seaside town on our own. Guytano was waiting for us just when and where he promised and we were back to our ship without any worries at all!
I should also add that all of our tour guides pointed out great gelato shops for us to enjoy our daily gelato... this was very important to our kids (and me)!
We know that private tours can be costly but let us reassure you that your money will be well spent! Without Chiara, Laura, Guytano and Carolina we would have simply been walking around aimlessly with maps and tour books looking at ancient ruins and scenery. Our 5 and 8 year old kids would have been thoroughly bored! Using Rome Private Guides for our trip made our vacation thoroughly enjoyable, educational, fun and simply magical! We didn't just see Rome, the Vatican, Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast and Sorrento... we experienced them!
We hope our travels bring us back to Italy in the future and when they do we will definitely use Rome Private Guides once again!
