“Can`t recommend Gartour”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

We booked two tours with Gartour (Colosseum/Forum Romanum and the Vatican Museums) and both were very poor. The only good thing about it was that we skipped the lines.

Especially during the tour at the Vatican we felt very rushed. Our tourguide didn`t even show us the Stanzas of Raffael. However, it seemed to be very important to him to take us to a gift shop at the end of the tour.

I would never go on a tour with Gartour again. I`d rather look for a quality tour led by an art historian.

“Discovering Rome Elite Walking Tour”
Reviewed 29 January 2014

We were told about this on our airport transfer (same company). It really helped us understand the different architecture, the city and it's history.

As it was the off season, this would be a small group...turned out very small as the others didn't show (their loss and our gain). We took a very leisurely stroll for the next few hours moving through the city having the history and especially the architectural differences explained and pointed out, visiting markets, San Luigi dei Francesi (church) and of course, the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps just to name some of the highlights. The tour was just marvellous and gave us amazing details and wonderful insights into this city we otherwise would have missed. It also made what I had read in the past come to life. This opened our eyes from the previous day when we had simply been walking the city streets. It also gave the following days tours that 'something' more. If you can, do this tour before the major ones.

Thank you so much Gartours we will always treasure this experience with such a relaxed guide.

“Gartour - transfers, Vatican tour, Coliseum tour”
Reviewed 30 December 2013

Airport hotel transfers - excellent - it was easy to spot the drivers at the airport and they came into the lobby to pick us up at the hotel.
Staff - very helpful - Genny was waiting for us at the hotel and had all the information we wanted such as good tours, restaurants, attractions, transportation, etc. and we booked the Vatican tour and the Coliseum tour on the spot.
Vatican tour - the actual tour through the Vatican was AMAZING and the guide was very good. He seemed to actually care about what he was talking about, he answered all our questions and showed us photos he had taken of the Vatican with different lighting on his iphone :) The transfer to the tour was an hour late but this was because the others getting picked up before us for the tour were an hour late so if you want to be sure you get picked up on time book a private transfer.
The Coliseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill - this tour was good but not great. I definitely would book a tour going to the coliseum because the line to get in without a tour was ridiculously long. It was good to see everything but our guide was a bit of a drone and seemed to just be reciting rehearsed info - he wasn't really able to answer many questions.
Restaurant recommendations - all the ones we tried were very good, especially the pizza restaurant near Campe de fiore - YUM!!!

Overall - I'd recommend private transfers, the Vatican tour, the restaurants and Genny was very helpful upon arrival but be careful booking group transfers and get a google map because the Gartours one is missing most streets and makes it very easy to get lost!

“Morning tour of St Peter's and Sistine Chapel: Gartours”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

I was a member of small group (of about 10 people) on a morning's tour of attractions within Vatican City. I pre-booked the Gartours guided walk and that was excellent. Our guide, Stephan, was very well informed and friendly and imparted a lot of information in way that was a of great interest.

St Peter's, and the Sistine chapel were magnificent, if not somewhat overwhelming, for me as a first time visitor. The artwork, tapestries, statues and baroque decorations in the Pope's palace were stunning. Stephan pointed out the residence of previous Popes (the present pope lives in the hotel within Vatican City) as well as the present day residence of emeritus Pope Benedict.

I certainly recommend Vatican City and Gartours in particular.

“Guided walking tour of Colosseo, Palentine Hill and Forum”
Reviewed 19 November 2013

Our time in Rome was extremely limited and so opting for a guided walking tour was the best thing we could have done! This 3+ hour walking tour allowed us to avoid the long queues as well as gave us an informative and interesting afternoon at these three venues! Our guide was really knowledgeable, and also sensitive to the needs of the group (with small rests where necessary etc!) - we got the most out of these places, with the historic aspects more than ably covered by the guide, plus opportunities for questions and discussion at our leisure! Would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to view these amazing places with a local guide!
