“You can do better”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

I stayed here for four nights, and I have to say I have a love/hate relationship with this hotel. Staff was kind and helpful. Very clean and bright place. However, it's about a mile away from the nearest metro and the surroundings aren't very interesting. My biggest gripe about this place is that the cleaning crew comes down the hall at 8am, loudly slamming doors to other rooms and talking. NOT a place to stay if you want to sleep in.

Dear Gust,

thank you for your precious review. I read with disappointment about the waiters at the floor. This is a major matter that I am trying to solve. The cleaning crew, even in a small hotel like this one, is under strict schedule and tent to be concentrated on their job. This can cause not paying attention of the early hours in which they work and the need that our customer have for sleep. Therefore I apologies for the inconvenient caused and I invite you to spend another weekend with us maybe by contact us directly so to give you the best price available and to show you how we are trying hard to improve from our mistakes.

Best regards

I stayed at this hotel over the valentines period for 3 nights with my partner, and we would definitely recommend it to friends. The staff are welcoming, friendly and very helpful. The reception staff spoke very good English and were more than willing to continue speaking English to us throughout our stay, which was really comforting as we experienced many eye rollers on the streets and cafes for our lack of italian speaking. The hotel is in a short distance from the Basilica San Paolo metro station, which is very user friendly (and I would definitely recommend everyone on a short stay to invest in the 3-day tourist metro card if you're not a fond long distance walker). The room was lovely and cleaned daily. The only minor problem is the hotel is off the main road so it can be difficult to find, and as there is very little going on in the local area, it is quite a dead neighbourhood. Would definitely recommend this to the city explorer though that plans on spending all day out and about, and is only at the hotel for a good nights sleep and a filling breakfast!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the university are quieter.

The hotel is situated outside the heart of Rome, but a short walk from Metro Station 'Basilica San Paolo" (line B) and it's easy from there. Also, there are bus services even closer (170 takes you to the central station. Takes a bit longer but there's more to see) There are a few restaurants in the area. not just 1 as mentioned in a previous review. Even a McDonalds although why anyone would go to a Mac in Rome is beyond me. Pasta, Pizza, Pasta and fine wine!
Anyway, I digress.
The rooms. Very clean. Cleaned properly daily. No issue there at all. The room is somewhat small and the walls are VERY THIN so you can hear what goes on with the neighbours. (not sure that's always a nice thing) and yes, as someone else mentioned, the bar on weekends is not helpful, although their music taste is not bad, I don't want to hear it at 1am. It stops during the week. If you're tired enough, you probably won't notice anyway. But it's there. be warned.
TV channels. Plenty to choose from, but very very little in English. Only news channels and 1 MTV station. Again, you're probably too tired exploring all of Rome to worry too much about TV so it's a minor point but should be mentioned in an honest review.
Staff are very kind and helpful and their English is pretty good. From reception to the breakfast area, nothing but friendly helpful staff.
Speaking of breakfast, can't fault this either. The area is clean and tidy and always seems staffed by 2 with tables being cleared very quickly. Assortment is great with eggs, cakes, yogurts, cereals, cold meats, coffee and juices and more.
one more tip for a few days. Get a ROMA PASS.
Lots of cats in the area. Interesting. The place must be rodentless.

Room Tip: I didn't ask, but face the street for view and less Bar noise No buildings opposite the front...

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for your kind review. I have to be honest this is the kind of review that I really like because it is exactly what are the real pro and real against of the hotel. There are actual problem that we are trying to solve with the next door bar that makes music in the weekends. For the staff I cannot stress enough how important is the attitude of the staff with our guest and this can really make a substantial difference.
As for the cats, well Romans have a passion for cats and they are a protected species within the city. You must have noticed a lot of them along the ruins in the historic centre.

Well thanks again and I hope to meet you soon in the Hotel Saint Paul Rome.

Best regards

on arrival we managed to get our room early and the staff were very helpful, the room was small but clean and tidy and good enough for 3 nights.
there was no information on attractions in hotel but they did have a map. the metro was 15 minutes walk away then 4 stops to the coliseum station.
after a day sightseeing the walk back seemed longer and was raining which did not help.
our room was on the back and we were awoke by very loud music from bar next door and had to complain, staff apologised and said was normal for weekends, they gave us a room at the front the next day which was better.
there is only 1 restaurant close by which make it difficult to get a choice to eat out unless you go back in to rome.
overall the hotel is fine but would not recommend if you don't want to do lots of walking after tiring day walking around rome, not quite 4 star but ok if you are on a budget.

Room Tip: get room at front if you want a good nights sleep

Dear guest,
thank you very much for you review. Moreover we want to thank you for focusing on the kindness and helpfulness of the staff which for us are extremely important.
Regarding restaurants around the hotel I believe there must have been a misunderstanding as around the hotel there are at least 6 restaurants from budget to top quality and the front desk staff are quite helpful in giving information regarding this.
I am deeply sorry to be informed about the loud music from the nearest restaurant. In fact that night there was a wedding party happening. Nevertheless this happens very rarely as it does not happen every weekend but I do understand it can be very frustrating.
I hope I will have the pleasure to have you again as our gust to give you a front room in a quite weekend.

Best regards

We have just returned from a short break to Rome and stayed at this hotel. From the minute we arrived the staff were very helpful and spoke very good English. We had the misfortune to be targeted by pickpockets and the Manager was very kind with helping us to sort out the police etc.

The hotel is very good, clean and we had a family room which was very comfortable and clean. Breakfast was plentiful and included a good choice. As much really as you could eat and drink. I would really recommend this hotel although it is a 10minute walk from the metro so would not suit people with walking difficulties. However bus stops are very close by. We ate at 2 different restaurants in the area and the food was excellent. The hotel staff recommended us to both.

We wold certainly stay again.

The hotel staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly and speak perfect English if you can't speak Italian. The room we had was a perfect size, you're only there to sleep, wash and change after all. The metro is a 10 minute walk. There aren't too many restaurants near by but do ask at reception as they will suggest where to go to eat. We took breakfast early and there was plenty of fruit, yoghurt, bread, cereal, ham and cheese, hot bacon and hard boiled eggs and as much coffee and fruit juice as you want. Friends went a bit later and said they had run out of some items but we didn't experience that. If you want an inexpensive, convenient placed hotel I would certainly recommend this one.
