“Cheap but not cheap enough”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

The only positive thing one can say about this hotel is it's cheap. The rest... just terrible. I only stayed there two nights, but my booking of just two nights was the best decision ever. The room was... not small, but extremely dirty, with crawling little things around every corner, yellow and stained walls, a tiny little fridge that basically takes in a bottle of water and a couple of sandwiches and nothing more.

The air conditioner (or whatever it was) was horribly noisy, very slow, the bathroom's ceiling vent (I guess) was also very noisy and the door had a locking mechanism that was impossible to understand.

The TV set (which was advertised as a flat screen) was a 9-inch old thing with like four or five local stations, the only closet in the room had broken, creaky doors and the floors were... well, dirty.

As for the included breakfast, you're probably better off skipping it. Not only is it very stingy, but the so-called natural juices, coffee and croissants are of very poor quality.

All in all, if you're considering booking a low-cost hotel in Rome for one or two nights, don't plan on staying in the room more than a couple of hours and can sleep in extremely noisy conditions, go for it. Otherwise, forget about it.

Stayed here 3 nights on business.

Rooms: very clean, quite small, with decent decor but lacking in some key ways - queen bed was two singles pushed together with very uncomfortable mattresses, TV was 9 inches and located near the ceiling. Had a closet but no drawers. A/C was good. Internet was very spotty.

Included breakfast: was continental - muffins, croissants, yogurt, cheese, ham, lemon cake, coffee maker. Pretty tasty and unlimited.

Service: spoke English, somewhat courteous - wouldn't let me check in early (granted it was 9am, regular check-in 12pm) but generally nice

Location: away from the major sights (at least 30 minute walk to central city, but located near subway lines and directly on tram line), in an Italian neighborhood near the University of Rome if you want some local flair. Didn't feel unsafe but some locals said that some nearby areas were a little sketchy. Found a very good restaurant less than one block away (Pizzeria S---?) where some of the waiters spoke English, was so good I ate there three nights in a row.

Room Tip: The Internet is located on the first floor so stay there / use your computer in the breakfast area i...

We booked this hotel through Expedia for 7 nights during April 2013 and chose it mainly for its location (2 stops from Termini and 5 minutes walk from the nearest metro station), the free WiFi and price. The hotel was easy to find from the metro station with the big 'Hotel' sign above it, seen from top of the road.

We found the room clean, comfortable and the right size for our needs, although the decor is a little tired. The room contains a wardrobe with proper hangers, a double bed, a small 'desk' shelf with a chair and mirror, a fridge, 2 power sockets, an electric window blind, a private bathroom with the usual fittings and toileties, and air con. We did find the air con didn't sufficently cool the room, but this didn't bother us, as we much prefer to open the window for fresh air. Although this may effect some people in the much hotter months. The room was cleaned very day; the towels were changed and the bed was made. The WiFi didn't work on the day of arrival, but we notified the management and was up and running by the next day. There is some traffic noise being siuated close to the main road; but hey, you're in a large city like Rome!

The breakfast was adequate for us: continental style with a range of cereals, pastries, cake, fresh fruit, yoghurts, bread rolls, jams and 2 drink machines for tea, coffee and juices and on the table was fresh milk! We found the staff accommondating and friendly, speaking limited English, which gave one some practice with their limited Italian. The hotel has a small bar in which we didn't use and a small lounge area to sit in and watch TV.

The area we found safe to walk around during the day and night. There is a limited amount of eating establishments; however, there is the 'Iris Bar' which serves good food at a reasonable price and was very friendly. There is also a small, but friendly family owned restaurant just a couple minutes walk away around the corner serving delicious food, in which the hotel manager recommended and booked a table for us. The area also has a small supermarket and a chemist nearby.

To sum up, we were pleased to find a small Italian owned hotel without all the hustle and bustle of a large international chain. One could always find faults even at the best 5 star hotels, but the room and hotel was fine for our needs - who wants to spend all their holiday in a hotel room in a city like Rome?! The location was superb for accessing the sites and the transport system and although it would have been nice to have a more variety of eating establishments, this would have made the area more commercialized!

Thank you to the staff of the Hotel Regina Margherita.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main road.

We stayed in this hotel in 9/2012 for 5 nights.
The location is pretty good, 5 minutes walk to the near Metro station which is 2 stations from the central Termini station.

The room is quite small and outdated. The shower was a shower jets but it did not work at all.
There is air conditioning in the room, safe, mini fridge and 2 combined single beds. There was a TV with a small selection of channels when most of them were Italian. The room was cleaned every day. Relative to money paid, the room is reasonable.

Breakfast is a cold buffet includes breads, croissants, cakes, jams, butter, cereals, juice, coffee and tea. Ham and Cheese were only in some days and sometimes only after our request.

Although the service at the reception was pleasant, some clerks knew a little English.

In summary, there is an appropriate value for the price paid compared with the high cost of hotels in Rome.

The hotel is situated about 400 yards from the Metro. It was quite easy to find in the dark as it was illuminated in green light as shown on a night view of the hotel on the website. The room was of a decent size with a good bathroom. The room was quiet and comfortable. The breakfast was quite good however if a lot of guest are eating at once there is very little room between the tables. I would recommend this hotel for a one night stay and the price is quite competitive for the quality of hotel in Rome. We would probaby book this hotel again for another short stay.

Room Tip: If arrving at night the green neon hotel sign can be seen at the top of the street if you head in a...

Me and my friend went from Termini to a hotel which we found in internet, but it was a little bit far from Termini. So we went try to find a hotel in our way. Regina Margherita does not look like a good hotel but we went there for asking about price.
when the reception ask me to visit the room and he offered a good discount we found this hotel very economic and nice ;-)
the room was small but it was clean.
break fast was good.
the only problem which we had there, was about internet. in this hotel you should pay internet fee by your credit card (online). as we have not credit card in Iran we couldn't connect to internet. also we asked from reception to give the money by cash and charge our account but they said no.
totally we enjoyed and it was good for us.

You'd never guess it by looking, but this small hotel is actually a 15th century villa. One of the clues is that the main door takes you down several steps to the lobby, because the city has risen that much over the years.
Bathrooms are tiny but spotless. Rolling shades over the windows help shut out street noise. All rooms air conditioned, which you need in Rome in the summer.
Breakfast is included, and there is an elevator.
Only 2 metro subway stops from Termini, super convenient.
Internet works off and on, only if you set up an account and then maybe. It's Italy.
Very friendly, helpful staff. Some speak more English than others.
