I am not sure why Borghese Gallery is considered so special among the Rome museums that a reservation is required in advance in order to the visit the museum, the museum guide calls it the best in Rome (and even the world?) and the washrooms are only accessible if you present your ticket ( really?). I almost feel like there is some kind of hype generated here, because the art collection is not that big or great, certainly less than Palazzo Barberini that was virtually empty when I visited it.

Don't get me wrong, there *is* some worthy art here, but I would say the Barberini has the more extensive and better art collection, virtually no crowds, and the mansion itself is stunning inside. And it does not require reservations. If you have limited time, that is the one to go to, not the Borghese Gallery.

we had booked online and told them we'll pay with our Roma pass. arrived by 8.30 at the side musee entrance... many people try and negotiate their way through the gardens , but it might be a tiresome process to trace the right route. with the limited number they let in to the gallery, we had a great time admiring the collection in peace. only whinge--wish they allow photo without flash like other museums

Could not rate this as Rome was so full of tourists in May that we did not get tickets in time to see this, should have bought them before we left or very early in our trip. In fact we missed out on several places due to crowds and not getting skip the line tickets early.
So heads up for others learn from our mistakes
