Hotel prices near Rome's main train station (Termini) seem to have doubled or tripled in the last couple of years, and many of those hotels are no longer good budget options. In this situation, Domus Mea represents an acceptable budget accommodation not far from the station. It is about 10 minutes walk from the station, in a quiet side street, on the fifth floor of an apartment building. The hotel itself is rather bare bones, the room in which I stayed had old furniture, and was rather small. The bathroom was shared, but it was spotlessly clean, with a strong current of hot water. Breakfast (which I skipped) is served in a nice dining room. The reception seems to be open 24 hours, which is a great advantage compared to similar establishments. Highly recommended for budget travelers.

Located in a dark and narrow street near train station Domus Mea is the worst hotel in Rome. Small, dirty and rude personal Domus mea is a real shame for a city like Rome. The owner ar old and unpolite and you must pay before. the breakfast start at 8 o clock because a lot of person leave early and the owner dont want to do a breakfast. Dont go because is a catch

This hotel was very close to the station which was convenient. It was also walking distance to the colosseum, Trevi fountain and other touristy stuff. The hotel is small. When you walk in and see the lift. You immediately think. This is the dodgiest lift I've ever seen. Luckily the hotel doesn't match it. It was pretty nice. U had to pay extra for the air con. Which was a bit stiff. But a need for summer. We just felt really unsafe here. It just felt dodgy. I wouldn't stay here again.

The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that it is cheap (it is in the centre of Rome near Central Station/Roma Termini). The breakfast is lousy, the bed is too hard, there is almost no water pressure in the shower and most times there is no hot water in the morning. Also the walls are thin which makes the room real noisy and we were lucky ... We had a real noisy neighbour!! :(

Firstly, the pics of the hotel on the booking site are a true indication of the hotel.
We stayed here for four days prior to going on a cruise to Venice.
The hotel reception is on the 5th floor with access by a small lift - just enough for 2 with luggage - typical of many lifts in Italian hotels of this star rating.
It is very close to the railway station with several restaurants nearby.
We stayed in Room 1 - which was offered to us when I said that I had difficulty with stairs.
The room was large with a sink, a double and single bed. The bathroom was across a small hall and we were advised that it was for our private use only.
There is a small terrace with table, chairs and pot plants which overlooks the street - a nice place to sit and have a glass of wine in the afternoon..
The room were serviced every day and we found it to be quite clean.
The one down side was the breakfast - the same each day - a large bread roll, a croissant, butter and jam - but the coffee was very good.
Given the limited English spoken by the management - we found them to be very friendly and helpful.
It can't have been too bad - as we booked for another two days on our return to Rome prior to returning home after a month of travelling in Italy.
We were greeted like long lost family on our return and given the same room as we had before.
This is a good value 2 star hotel in a good location.

I take note of reviews when booking hotels so thought I would review our latest trip. I booked a 2 star hotel as to be honest it was a cheap break to Italy from Bristol. A 3 star was at least £150 more.
Positives. Location was excellent. Less than a 5 minute walk from the Termini. Lots of good local restaurants and shops. About a 30 minute walk to Spanish steps and all that Rome has to offer. Breakfast continental. Nice rolls and strong coffee. Rooms cleaned daily and beds made. Great hair dryer in bathroom.
Negatives. Unfortunately quite a few even for a 2 star. Bathroom very poor for both cleanliness and facilities. Hot water very limited and the shower to be honest the worst I have ever experienced. A splash in a puddle would give more water:). Also stayed in room 1 and bathroom opposite of the bedroom across a small corridor next to the office. Not 100% sure it was for our "exclusive use" so took the key with us just in case. Hotel staff as written in other reviews less than helpful. Use of iron? "no". Spare Italian plug" no". Stay in room until 12 on last day? Met with annoyance. Hot water? Met with raised eyebrows.
Novelty factor. Hotel situated on 5th and 6th floor of building with a lift from the 1950's. very Italian shabby chic.
Overall it is only a room and a great base but I am sure there are better quality 2 stars in Rome.

Hotel Domus Mea is very close to Rome Termini (Train Station) and bus stand. Many of the sight seeing places are on a walking distance rom the hotel. However, the rooms are small but clean with free Wi-Fi. We did not relish the dry bread in the break fast. But the hotel is cheap at a convenient place. It is worth trying.
